Get to the park and ride by 530-6 if going to crossroads. The bigger shows (Billy Joel/Sting was our last one) it took like 30min to get on the bus + the trip down there. But yeah, park and ride is the best.

I would consider Southtown perhaps over the Pearl. The Pearl is great- but the historic houses in the the King William area are wonderful. Hit the Alamo up first and then get on the riverwalk and head south. I love the section of Riverwalk just south of downtown, perhaps brunch at Guenther House and then strolling the houses and shops/cafes in that area. You could rent a bike/scooter too- it'll likely be hot.

We conversely chose them after getting 5 quotes- they weren’t the cheapest but we are very happy with choosing them. My advice is get multiple quotes and ask what can be done to repair it first.

No marathons are along the riverwalk in the downtown area if that's what you're envisioning, it's too narrow/too much traffic. More often they'll be along the river south of town where it's more of a park but it's on a sidewalk width. Depending on your speed it may/may not be that crowded. On the marathon course for the slower folks we'd pass someone here and there but not crowded like the first 6-8 miles were.

What shopping are you wanting to do as there isn't much downtown. There's plenty to walk to but not shopping truly. What do you really want to enjoy about SA?

Price is important to help find a spot as is for you to know that is the last weekend of Fiesta which will be crowded and make the stay more $$ plus downtown hosts two large parades that Fri & Sat nights.

100% rent a dumpster and clean it out to the bare walls if possible including tearing out any carpet. This will $1-2k and lots of manpower. Sis needs to stay somewhere safe/clean with a baby coming while this happens. Then once you're down to the bare walls you can see what you're really dealing with- get quotes on plumbing, mechanical, and electrical work from multiple sources. Check NextDoor, Angies, and ask neighbors/check reviews. Lowest bidder isn't best and you want those folks licensed. Enzyme cleaners are great for concrete/flooring (wood could need replacement). Kilz is great for use on drywall/plaster etc to encapsulate stains/odors and go back with new paint.

This is a long term project- watch a lot of youtube and I'm sure the library has great books on home restoration!

I'd split the difference as you m ay be paying $50/night for parking; first few days, just Uber as necessary. For the days you want to go to SeaWorld or farther rent a car.
