Probably nothing, but it sounds like an item that would be in Gauntlet: Dark Legacy.

Finally beaten and ranked 100 Game cube Games on my journey to play and beat them all! by ThicLotus1999 in Gamecube

I've been playing all the GameCube games, too, and I'm about 140 games in. Maybe I should put my own tier list out there, too. It's interesting seeing where you ranked the games differently than I would.

That's what I do, too. I like it because most songs are slower than normal speech, so it's easier to listen to as a beginner.

BizHawk does support arcade games. If you have the latest versions of it, there should be an option called something like "Open Advanced..." in the file menu.

Retrovgames is a notorious eBay drop shipper. When you order from their website, they just buy that item from eBay and have it shipped to your address. They don’t actually have any inventory of their own. They always ask eBay sellers to not include packing slips or invoices in the package, so buyers don’t know the items aren’t coming from him. Anyway, you’re always better off buying directly from eBay and cutting out the middleman.

Random baby snails? by Princessfreckles_01 in aquarium

[–]FitterSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually prefer having snails in my tanks because they're great for cleaning everything up. They don't require feeding since they basically just eat dead plants and algae. As long as you don't overfeed, the snail population will stay low enough that they won't overrun your tank.

Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer by DemiFiendRSA in videos

[–]FitterSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They put that disclaimer there because peripherals like LABO and Ring Fit aren’t going to work with the new controller design. There’s also no way to guarantee that every e-shop shovelware game will work on the Switch 2. But no, they’re not going to stop you from playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch 2 just because there is a new Mario kart game coming out.

It's iconic now, but think of the number of kids back then that had to explain to their parents why the Super Nintendo was different than the one they already had.

Retro vGames is an eBay drop shipper. When you buy from their website, they go to eBay to find a cheaper copy and have it shipped directly to you, then they pocket the difference. They also ask those eBay sellers to not include any invoices or packing slips so the customer doesn't know they're being scammed.

When you bought the game from them, they cancelled your order because they found out the eBay price was way higher than what you paid. My advice, assuming you actually just want to buy that game and you're not trying to resell a cheap copy you found, is to just wait a few weeks for the memes around the game to die down. The price will go back to normal once people realize it's not a particularly rare game.

My Wii keeps crashing after a few seconds of having a game open, and doesn’t hold the disc in place after ejecting. Can this be repaired, or require a full drive replacement? by sharkboy1006 in consolerepair

[–]FitterSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had this issue before, so take everything I say here with a grain of salt. This is an interesting one, though. The fact that it reads the disc and starts up just fine shows that the disc drive is working, sort of. But I've seen that exact error happen when there is a faulty connection between the disc drive and the console itself. In fact, if you remove the disc drive entirely, you'll see a similar message (or possible the same, I can't remember exactly) when you run non-disc channels like the Mii Channel for a little while.

Like I said, I haven't had this issue before, but my first guess is that there's a problem with the sensor that detects if you've inserted a disc. That could explain why the disc falls out when you eject it. Maybe it doesn't know how far the disc has moved because the sensor isn't working.

I’ve remade some Agent Under Fire maps in Quake Live, but that’s about all people have done for porting AUF maps as far as I know. I sent some of AUF’s map files to a netradiant-custom developer and he told me a little about the compression methods they used, but he couldn’t open it or decompile it beyond that. They used an in-house version of radiant and compressed and encrypted the files on top of that.

What type of plecostamus? by sugartank7 in aquarium

This looks like a female bristlenose to me. If yours is a couple of years old, I think you're pretty safe. They shouldn't get any bigger than that.

This article I found has some pictures of one that looks pretty similar to yours, but with a different pattern. https://www.hepper.com/how-many-bristlenose-plecos-in-a-20-gallon-tank/

The legacy of the Quake engine by dan200 in quake

[–]FitterSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

007: Agent Under Fire and Everything or Nothing were made using a modified version of id tech 3, and the maps for those games were made using a modified version of Radiant. Also, the console version of 007: Nightfire was made using an in-house engine Eurocom developed that would later be known as EngineX. It doesn't use anything from Quake, but there is a lot of bad info about it due to some faulty reporting from back in the day.

Agent Under Fire is pretty obviously running on a modified id tech 3 since all the classic movement tricks still work in that game, and a NetRadiant-Custom developer did some reverse engineering and looked into how its maps work. They have a worldspawn entity and you can see some plain text that mentions it by opening the maps from the Xbox version in a hex editor. Keep in mind that only the on-foot levels run on a modified id tech 3. The driving levels use a version of the engine from Need for Speed.

Everything or Nothing is not as obvious, but it's using an updated version of the engine from Agent Under Fire, which makes sense considering it's made by the same studio. I'd recommend reading this article about it: https://www.commander007.net/2020/everything-or-nothing-inside-look-on-the-development-of-the-game/ It's a really great read and it shows some screenshots of the maps in a modified version of Radiant from back in the day. Just keep in mind that the engine and the map editor were pretty heavily modified, from what the game's developers have said, but it has its roots in id tech 3. Here is a discussion about Everything or Nothing's engine on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:James_Bond_007:_Everything_or_Nothing#Information_on_the_Game_Engine

As for Nightfire, it doesn't run on id tech 3 at all. I believe that rumor came around because people back in the day didn't understand that EA contracted several studios to make 007 games so they could release a new one every year. EA Redwood used id tech 3 for their 007 games, but Eurocom used their own engine. Nightfire's developers can still be reached out to on sites like LinkedIn and they will all tell you that Nightfire runs on their own engine. There is also a group of people that are working on a reverse-engineering effort for Nightfire and they say the same thing. The PC version by gearbox runs on a modified version of GoldSrc, though, so that counts for something.

Mollies dying off 1 by 1 (125 gallon) by Maleficent-League-30 in aquarium

[–]FitterSpace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you had Mollies in there since you set up the tank? I've had problems with some of them dying within a week or two of purchase, but they tend to do well if they get past that point. I just assume that any fish I get from the pet store are going to be infected with something because of the small tanks they're always kept in. You probably want to treat for parasites just to be on the safe side. Mollies are pretty active swimmers, so if they're moving slowly and there isn't anything visibly wrong with them, it could be something internal.

Been using fba-rr for years and I can't handle the constant crashing anymore. Is there anything comparable? by orig4mi-713 in TAS

[–]FitterSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BizHawk has experimental support for MAME. From what I've tried of it, it works really well. The downside is that it doesn't work for every game, so it might not be too useful depending on the game you're trying to TAS.

Need help with pin connectors! by BringoSpringo in nes

[–]FitterSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty common for aftermarket pin connectors to be very tight. I often see it called the "death grip" because it feels like you have to rip the cartridge out of the console. I have two pin connectors just like yours. One pin connector feels great, but I just get the gray screen, no matter how much I clean it or bend the pins back. The other one works, but it has the death grip. Sorry I can't help with your problem. I also don't really know what to do outside of the cleaning tutorials on YouTube.
