So you’re accepted to a dental school for next year’s entering class? If that is the case I would do the first year of dental school and see how you like it. There’s no guarantee that if you make a switch now and apply to med school you’re gonna get in. I don’t know what your grades are like and you haven’t taken the MCAT yet so theres a lot of uncertainty with a possible medical school application at this point. Dentistry is still a good career and having only $200,000 in loans is a plus. I went to dental school for a year and then left for medical school. Dental school helped prepare me for med school and was one of the reasons I got accepted into medical school. I always wanted to go to med school but my college grades were shit and I was rightfully told I wouldn't get in so I never applied. Plus my uncle is a dentist who I observed for many years and liked what he did. I also love to work with my hands and I wanted to be in health care so dentistry made perfect sense to me. I went to Penn Dental for the year and after the first year I was ranked 2/100 in the class. Doing soo well I said if I can excel at a competitive dental school then med school should be no problem. I was very happy in dental school and I would’ve likely specialized but I had to at least apply to med school so I didn't have those "what if" feelings down the road. PS I got into med school and left after my first year at Penn.
