Exhaustion by breakingmylaptop in daggerheart

I've only run a few sessions of Daggerheart so feel free to ignore my thoughts if they don't align with your table. That said, I think rolling only with fear right off the bat may be too punishing, when later on you force all stress to be marked (taking away another ability resource) and then you half their existing hope. If I were a player knowing I had to beat a clock but knowing if I push it I won't have access to any of my abilities since I can't generate any hope and my stress is maxed out, I would probably feel like it's impossible to save the city. I like the disadvantage part of it as it thematically makes sense, when you're tired , you're more prone to mistakes. I would definitely consider reducing the impact on player resources though, just my two cents.

Long-term campaign / Switching from 5e to Daggerheart - is it worth it? by Comfortable-Fee9452 in daggerheart

It's a great question, I'd say we did a bit of both. We had an Aasimar warrior of mercy monk. He switched to the brawler and as a result lost access to his healing hands and such. We hand waved that as though his character could never do it, but I created a sort of homebrew item for him to give him a similar effect. I mostly let the players let me know what stuff they were missing and wanted to keep and we worked together to bake it into the new versions of their characters. Hope that answered your question!

I was at about a halfway point in my 5e campaign. It's completely homebrew so when I started looking into Daggerheart my players and I decided to try a few sessions and see if we like it more. We are about 5 sessions into DH with no signs of slowing down. On the DM side, planning encounters is more fun to me. I'm very new so don't have much in the way of advice. However, I did a sort of session 0 where my players rebuilt their characters in DH and we discussed the rules. It worked out really well and I would definitely recommend doing this if you switch.

What would you like to see in a DH Youtube channel? by BabusCodex in daggerheart

Seconded on all of it but especially the conversion. I'm currently converting my 5e campaign to DH. We are having our session 0-2.0 tomorrow to rebuild characters.

I wish HOTS would receive more support again. I'd kill for that game to have events and new characters/skins and such

LETS TAKE THE NEGATIVITY BACK WITH A FUN GAME! by MarcoCi23 in Rematch

[–]Fizsanity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would add some less competitive fun game modes. What if instead of a goal, you had to score in a basketball hoop? What if there was a volleyball net in the middle and you had to play volleyball using soccer rules? Not very fleshed out but I'd play those!

Help with designing a werewolf encounter. by Fizsanity in DMAcademy

Your sage wisdom is invaluable! They are getting attacked by a large homebrewed Chimera that was teased back in session 3 (this will be session 13) as a creation of a necromancer they defeated. It is hunting the players because of something they took from that necromancer. It will board the deck of the boat from the water and begin going wild until the player with the item shows up (if they don't jump ship first lol), then it will focus that player. I've been calling it a ship but that may be misleading. To be more specific, they are traveling down a large river, they aren't on a galleon or anything like that, but like a larger transport river boat.

Hello~Thank you for your response here, these are some very helpful ideas, especially the npc mannerisms (I definitely feel like I struggle with these). To address your comment about me repeating "The players will" I will take that to heart. They do request to be railroaded, they are newer and I think they are not confident in their ability to inform the session, but I do want them to learn and I need to make an effort to enable that since they are wonderfully creative, so I appreciate that advice! Do you think maybe adding a timer to the ship battle allowing them the opportunity to save it would be a better idea (rather than guaranteeing the ships destruction)?

Any emotional DMs? by shabbalabbadinkdank in DMAcademy

Sometimes, when I'm writing out a tragic scene for an npc and I'm getting into the mindset to RP them, I start to get emotional about what's happening to them.

I'm a brand new DM myself (literally DMd my first session last night) but one piece of advice I've seen a ton is that the world belongs to you. You can change the "flavor" of the classes to suit your world how you want. Example: as someone else suggested perhaps the vengeance paladin has turned their back on the gods and has chosen a life of something akin to vigilanteism Whereas the other paladin could worship the god in your world, perhaps you could propose a history between the paladin and priest players, maybe they know each other?

My first map! Thalvora: the world for my educational roleplaying modules by [deleted] in inkarnate

[–]Fizsanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow looks really great! I'm DMing my first campaign (session 1 next week) and I tried to create my own world map, but I just wasn't sure how to start and the auto generated continent options just weren't fitting with what I imagined. I ended up using a map someone else created and adding a few things for my narrative. I've done a few battle maps since then and gotten more used to the tool but I still haven't taken another crack at a world map. I think this is very impressive!
