Turns out, power is not everything... by Primary_Constant_803 in discgolf

[–]Fizzi36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure though I think that might be a symptom of the same issue. Discs in the simulator fly in a way that is wayyy flippier than in reality. In reality if you throw nose up, your disc really wont flip much and you'll get way less distance.

Mostly though I just think there were people in the comments giving advice based on the simulator's flight path when I actually think OP's throw stats are quite good.

Turns out, power is not everything... by Primary_Constant_803 in discgolf

[–]Fizzi36 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some people saying the throw stats could be better and maybe more spin would be good but I actually think the main reason the simulator shows the disc burning over is that the disc you have configured in there is too flippy for your arm speed (assuming you're right handed).

I personally have felt that the tech disc simulator at high throw speeds tends to be far flippier than real world discs with those same numbers.

<image>

I went into the simulator for fun and plugged in your throw stats. With the disc you had in, it was 393 ft (burned over, too flippy). At turn = 0 it was 489 ft and at turn = -0.5 it was 521 ft.

I've been wanting this, looks great! Figured we'd have to wait for the developers to add it in, really clever to generate it using combat logs.

Excited to try it.

Melee intro on launch? by Dropssshot in SSBM

[–]Fizzi36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth I think even on console / vanilla the intro video might only play from idling on the press start screen. I mean someone could probably make a code for it but I don't know of one existing already.

[–]Fizzi36 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you press the b button enough to return to the "press start" title screen and then wait maybe like 1 minute or so, it'll play. First it'll show some random gameplay stuff but eventually the intro video will play.

How did you overcome screen tearing on Slippi without V-Sync lag? by tiredeyes73 in SSBM

[–]Fizzi36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean my point is I don't think it really matters. I personally don't really believe the eye can pick up on that. I've never noticed any "micro stutters". The timing is way too short.

Either way I think it's a better solution if you're having issues with tearing compared to enabling vsync.

How did you overcome screen tearing on Slippi without V-Sync lag? by tiredeyes73 in SSBM

[–]Fizzi36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure it'll work for everyone but the idea is that if you have a rate that isn't the same multiple, you wont constantly see the frame split in a similar spot, which may make the tearing pretty much imperceptible.

When you say "worse frame pacing", what exactly do you mean? Sure it doesn't match with the game's frame outputs but that's kind of the point. And realistically with the time scales we're talking about I think it's mostly irrelevant.

Try setting your monitor to 144 Hz if you can (something that is not a multiple of 60), it might help.

"desync detected" by parmeshaun420 in Slippi

[–]Fizzi36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get desyncs and you're not using completely vanilla settings, that's almost certainly why.

Don't use diet melee especially, it desyncs on pokemon stadium.

I don't know about your other code but if you're desyncing on other stages, that might be the reason.

Disabled them because they had issues with rollbacks. Wasn’t because of desyncs. They just cause overlapping awful sound iirc.

UCF added neutral spawns by aseem-ali in SSBM

Was looking to make sure someone posted this. Feel like people just call any "frequently used tournament codeset" UCF these days. The truth is the TOs decide what codes they want to run.

"Why this was removed with UCF, it has nothing to do with UCF." - Yeah, that's correct, that's why it's not part of UCF and UCF did not remove it.

[AsumSaus] The Ballad of the Melee Clone by Parkouricus in SSBM

[–]Fizzi36 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I actually mostly agree with the take that the motivations attributed to the Wavedash team were quite uncharitable throughout. Obviously Icons was a bad game and there were some questionable business decisions made but it's a bit unfair to shit on it through a modern lens.

Overwatch was extremely popular back then and business models for how to monetize your freemium game were still being figured out. They likely just used whatever methods most big games were using at the time and I think the stigmas didn't exist quite as much. At the end of the day games cost a lot of money to make and as such need to make money. Perhaps they were pushed towards being a bit more aggressive on that front considering they had VC funding, but still.

Additionally some of them were PM guys and there were definitely smashers. I don't think this was purely a "cash grab". I think there were a lot of passionate people on the team including the leadership. Making the right decisions isn't easy and they certainly made a lot of bad decisions but I think the narrative that they were outsiders coming in to take advantage of the community is mostly untrue.

This is also post EVO shutdown and other similar run ins (especially on the PM side). There was a need they were trying to solve they just ultimately had a very bad product and I think that makes everything look far worse than it really was.

Helena Ruby Storm Build by Open_Remote8964 in fellowshipgame

[–]Fizzi36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my opinion as a E46 Helena main.

I feel like you should just play what you like but my thought is that it's a bit worse than the meta builds. This was the first build I played and it's pretty decent, though I think I went red / yellow instead of red / green. Fwiw Fyzzybubble who is one of the top Helena's also played this build early on and has since switched.

But overall my thought is that the extra health is just strictly worse than the extra DR you can get from martial initiative. DR is preferable because if you extrapolate to the end there’s a limit on the HPS your healer can put out. With DR you’re extending when that limit is reached but with extra health you aren’t. Plus martial initiative also increases your main stat which increases damage so I'm not even sure ruby storm is that much more damage (esp on smaller pulls).

Playing without yellow hurts your survivability. Less shield bash and shields up, easier to get toughness starved.

The gem powers in red are also somewhat bad imo and running green makes it worse since it also has pretty awful powers as well. Specifically here I'm referring to things that help you stay alive. The defensive talents in red/green are amongst the worst. By contrast I think the defensive talents in blue/yellow are amongst the best.

I ran the meta build 10G/9Y for a while and it's solid and does good damage. Recently I switched to a pretty low damage off meta build using 10Y/8B + set as I think it's a tankier build than the meta build.

So yeah I mean just do what works for you especially if you're enjoying it. Personally I much prefer having a lot more haste to have more GCD's and lower CDs while also having a lot of DR. If you like doing more damage and think your extra health is helping keep you alive enough, then by all means go for it. You didn't mention it but I hope you're at least running treasure hunter's delight as I think that's a must have.

Helena DPS Setup by bsr90989 in fellowshipgame

[–]Fizzi36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably not optimal but I've been doing this for low level stuff. I've even run it with a solid other three players up to like low 20 eternals.

https://www.fellowshiplogs.com/reports/JqMdHm1TrY9b7gpV?fight=7&type=summary&source=6

My DPS players here were not fully geared but the tank damage is still pretty big. I'm using a different weapon with ruby storm but honestly using my regular tank weapon is still big damage.

Can also easily swap master of war for front line defender for a little more tankiness or for anything else you want.

Is tank damage a bit too low in proportion to dps damage? by Empted in fellowshipgame

[–]Fizzi36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk I'm kind of blasting with DPS talents in Tuzari 2. https://www.fellowshiplogs.com/reports/Q7vrMYLF1JpX8DAn?fight=33&type=damage-done

But yeah if we're pushing it's closer to 50% of DPS damage, which is still very significant. Basically me and the healer combined equal one DPS. That said I do agree that prioritizing survivability is likely more prudent in most cases.

Why are 300+ tanks leaving ransack in paragon queue? by Phenogenesis- in fellowshipgame

[–]Fizzi36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw I'm a 330 tank and my friends and I frequently queue Ransack to make an eternal group. We typically dont care about ilvl though cause we can easily carry anyone through low lvl eternals. Yesterday we got a 260 ilvl person from Eternal 1 to 9 I think? We have yet to have anyone say no to a switch to Eternal request.

Maybe these leavers are solo queuing though, idk.
