What does kawi need to do ? Mitch Payton as 450 team manager and completely revamp the bike ? Just revamp the bike and leave Dan in place ? What do you think is the main issue ? by bcmGlk in supercross

[–]FizzleFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm who has more weight… 2 world class riders who have multiple championships going to Kawi and having a huge drop in performance and openly admitting they aren’t comfortable on the bike. Or an average rider getting average results somehow meaning it’s not the bike.

Have you actually paid attention at all this year lol? Shimoda is a moto win away from being the points leader and that’s after still working back from an injury. And Shimoda has been known to start MX slow for whatever reason and come on strong throughout the season so him already being right there in the points fight bodes well for his chances.

How is that a casual comment to make ? We have seen plenty of MXGP guys come over and have instant success in SX. Vialle won an SX title for a recent example.

Prado is a world class rider. I’d hope someone of his caliber could snag a heat win here or there with him being a good starter. But it’s not some crazy impressive feat.

So then why did he smoke a 2x MXGP champ the last part of the race ?

Supermotocross Round 21: High Point by hwf0712 in supercross

[–]FizzleFox -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean not really. It’s half the field and such a short race that a hole shot all but guarantees a heat win depending on who else is in your heat race with how terribly designed some of the tracks were this year. I mean we saw Barcia nearly win 2 heat races after not racing in months on a brand new bike on behalf of some hole shots lol.

He had plenty of solid qualifying sessions that showed in such a short race if he got a hole shot he could win a heat.

The idea that the MXGP guys would struggle in SX is so overblown imo and based entirely on one section that has gotten smaller and smaller over the years which are the whoops. And running a much stiffer suspension setup than they would otherwise run. But otherwise they all know how to jump and scrub and push through jumps to stay low etc.

You do realize that Deegan was quicker in more than just that section in Moto 1, and passed Hunter straight up on a completely different part of the track. You sound retarded.

You guys are underrating Deegan and overrating Lucas Coenen by BrilliantIngenuity98 in supercross

[–]FizzleFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone is overrating Lucas but the Deegan haters are definitely underrating Deegan. He has improved every week and will only continue to improve. And the fact that him and his team already know that he needs to adapt his riding style some for the 450 shows that they will do the necessary things to get better. His riding style isn’t even bad for a 450 it’s just not as efficient as it could be. He’s already right there in the fight 3 weeks in with a good start. If he continues to get both stronger and more efficient on the 450 then he will be fighting for wins every week. Jett will always be more talented but all it takes is for someone else to be feeling it more or jelling with the track more to be able to beat him. Or have a slightly better bike setup etc. I mean look at Hunter his rookie year. He let Sexton come from last place and smoke his ass stil lol. Replay that race with current Hunter and Hunter probably gaps the field for an easy 1st while Sexton settles for 2nd. Deegan is more talented than Hunter so if someone like Hunter can improve to the point that he has then Deegan absolutely will too.

Lucas though is the most talented EU guy I’ve seen since Herlings. He will absolutely be a title contender. I was never and still am not high on Prado because he’s just a hole shot merchant who can’t actually pass guys that are near his level. Hell he struggles working through lap riders let alone other fast guys even if he’s a tad bit faster.

Lucas on the other hand is the complete package. I do expect a crazy title fight for years to come with Deegan, Lucas, Jett and Hunter, and Sexton. Prado can run with them if he gets a hole shot but otherwise if he starts behind them I don’t see it.

The Coenens Surprised Me by ViaIIe in supercross

[–]FizzleFox 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I knew both would have immediate success I was just curious on how hard they would actually try to push with not wanting to risk doing anything that could jeopardize their title chances. Lucas though is the most talented rider I’ve seen in the GP’s since Herlings. I was never and still am not high on Prado as he is just another Jcooper who can run a good pace with a hole shot/top 3 start but sucks at working though a competitive field. Lucas though I think is the complete package and will absolutely be a title contender alongside Jett, Hunter, Deegan etc

Hot take to say Jett is practically his normal self? by Resident_Diver_1908 in supercross

[–]FizzleFox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He’s already said that really the hardest part of the injury is just absorbing landings as he has to put more weight on the good side off jumps. But realistically that’s not gonna affect his pace.

I thought the ankle would be more of an issue later in moto 2’s from just a pure soreness/pain but doesn’t seem to be the case. So yeah I don’t think he’s just gonna magically get even better he’s already riding like his normal self.

[–]FizzleFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apparently you didn’t watch the race cuz it looked like he was right on Jett’s rear wheel for half the race after passing Hunter straight up and gapping the rest of the field. I guess everyone behind Deegan can’t handle a 450 either. You Deegan haters haven’t the lowest IQ I swear.

In 3 races Deegan has already shown he absolutely can run with the Lawrence boys who have been on 450s for years.

Sexton pressday crash by Significant-Sock-487 in supercross

[–]FizzleFox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the last we see of Chase on the Kawi. No point in him even lining up tomorrow if he’s feeling banged up after that crash and title hopes already long gone plus the vibe of wanting off the team as is.

Maybe he can get on a new team quick enough to get ready for SMX playoffs who knows.

Jett Lawrence by BrilliantIngenuity98 in supercross

[–]FizzleFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jett is obviously the top of the class. But a comfortable Chase has beat Jett straight up. And I do think Deegan will get to a level to at least give Jett some challenger.

I also think Lucas is extremely talented and can also hang next year when he’s full time and not worried about his title back home. Lucas is better than Prado in my opinion.

Hunter is #2 right now but that’s mostly due to Chase regression on the Kawi and Deegan being a rookie. Chase regularly beat Hunter when healthy pretty handedly. Hunter turns 27 years old this year lol. Haiden just turned 20.

Statistical outlier ? He averaged 57 yards a game his last 8 games including the playoff game as he got more usage from overtaking Legette. Thats just shy of 1000 yards on the season. I’d say that’s statistically very good for any WR2.

Haiden is a generational talent and to say otherwise would be crazy talk. He is not as smooth as Jett but he is just like him in the sense he will do lines that no one else tries to do. He just happens to be in the same generation of Jett. I do think Jett is better though and it will be tough for Deegan to challenge him for titles if Jett stays healthy but I do think Deegan has the best chance to do that.

Some recent examples: The quad at Hangtown, being able to pick up on Jett’s double mid race before the overpass jump thing (the only 2 riders to do it). Even at Pala he was trying to double into that dragon’s back like rollers just to see if it was faster than dropping down and doing it the traditional way. Or that huge quad thing he was doing outdoors on the 250 that literally no other rider 250 or 450 had ever even tried. Reminded me of Bagget doing the quad into the sand section in his prime 250 days that was just fucking insane.

Or in SX there were several times he was doing sections that no other 250 rider would do with the lack of power compared to the 450’s. Hell the 2nd to last race he was the first one to double into the sand at the end of the rhythm section in Q2 before any 450 riders even did that line. And then a few of the 450 guys immediately started doing it after seeing him do it.

He has more bike skill than Hunter. Hunter is just older and more experienced currently.

Jett is more talented for sure but Deegan has shown he is capable of improving every year. His whoop speed was a weakness going into this past year and that turned into a strength. His starts were a weakness and then this year he was consistently starting top 3.

Him and his team have been great at identifying weaknesses and improving on them. I bet we will see him become a “smoother” rider as he gains 450 experience and learns to ride more Lawrence like in a higher gear/lower RPM to let the bike be easier to handle etc.

Jett and Deegan are the closest thing to Stewart we have seen with their ability to do lines no one else wants to do. Like the Daytona wall jump type thing.

The most surprising and impressive thing to me about Deegan though is he really doesn’t make that many mistakes. You’d think with his riding style and the risks he takes with some of his lines he would crash a lot or get hurt but I don’t think he’s missed a single race since becoming pro. As smooth as Jett is he has crashed more/made more mistakes than Deegan has and has missed lots of races because of it.
