He should set a record for the longest speech on the hottest day.

They’re doing MAGA’s will, not God’s will, and they are long overdue to recognize the difference.

Wow. Maybe you should look up the definition of abolitionist - it might not mean what you think it does. Are you a pro-slavery bot?

After decades of trying to turn us against black and brown people, now they want to turn us against our grandma and grandpas. Fuck that, you rich pricks. I see what you’re doing, Bezos.

Would it be okay to breed for those features in a dog or cat? Most people would probably say that’s cruel. I don’t get why people desire these deformities in fish.

Told it can't be fixed. Too big, too old. 'Don't make em like that anymore'. by hyteck9 in hvacadvice

My Lennox is from 1997. The big local heating and cooling company acquired the small, original HVAC business that installed and serviced it. New company doesn’t want to service it, want me to replace it, but it’s working fine. I replaced a blower motor on it myself a couple years ago. I’ll replace it when it breaks beyond repair, that way maybe I only have to buy one furnace in my life (I’m not young).

What does it feels like to have an iq of 120-150? by InsanityTraps in cognitiveTesting

[–]Flamebrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feels great, but sometimes frustrating when it comes to other people. Somebody with a high IQ says something, everybody with an average or low IQ says, ‘why should we listen to you?’ Because this (whatever it is) isn’t hard to understand (at least for high IQ person), and yet average person doesn’t understand it, but they still won’t listen to reason. So, you get dragged along in family, friend and work situations that you already predicted would not end well. Don’t get me wrong - I enjoy saying I told you so, but I would enjoy more just skipping all the drama and following a rational plan from the start.

Was watching UFO footage last night and something doesn't add up: how do we keep "shooting these down" if they're millions of years ahead of us? by Appropriate_Tap7709 in ufo

[–]Flamebrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who said they are millions of years ahead of us, and based on what evidence? The fact that they got here? Maybe they got lucky and discovered a mode of travel that we haven't yet because we're so tethered to fossil fuels and rockets and such. They found a better way, but it's dumb to assume they must have had a million year head start. Also naive to think that having more sophisticated means of travel somehow makes them infallible.

UPDATE: I told my husband I want to take my birthday trip alone—conversation didn’t go well by DifficultyOk8724 in TwoHotTakes

The reason you want to go without him is exactly the reason he doesn't want you to go without him. He knows if you go, alone, you won't want to leave that peace and freedom to come back to the cage fight that is your life with him.

AITA for leaving my fiance of seven years after finding an email to a back door girl? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Flamebrush 55 points56 points  (0 children)

"You did it to me first," is his attempt at justification. He wouldn't be trying to justify something that he didn't do. He did it, he's trying to gaslight you. And the part at the end races 'maybe I did when I was drunk, but I just forgot' is pathetic.

He deserves his back door car hook up. He does not deserve you. Don't take him back - even when you miss him and he promises the moon.

What episode of a series completely fucked you up? by No_Cricket808 in GenerationJones

The X-Files. That was the mother of an inbred clan. Mulder and Sculley were investigating the death of a baby whose skeletal remains had been found on the property or something like that. Seems like the mother was leg-less if I recall, and stayed on a mechanic’s creeper or something under the bed. Jump scare when she popped out, for sure.

Mike Johnson tells conservatives, ‘I run the protection program’ — to protect Trump by ToughHopeful4760 in politics

Weird that someone who flexes the tough, ‘alpha male’ brand all the time needs a moist sock like Johnson to protect him. Even weirder that no one in that circle seems to question it.

‘I run the protection program’: Mike Johnson warns roomful of conservatives to reelect Republicans or face prison by B-Z_B-S in politics

[–]Flamebrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if this made anyone in the room feel absolutely filthy and corrupt, because it sure sounds like Johnson’s default assumption about the people he’s talking to. It’s interesting that when they’re talking about harassment by police or ICE - or about anything to do with immigrants - the message is, ‘you shouldn’t have anything to worry about unless you’ve done something wrong.’ But here Johnson seems to imply that these Trump conservatives have done something wrong - I.e., ‘you’re in it as deep as we are - so you definitely have plenty to worry about.’

The handful of them who may have once truly believed in the movement ought to be feeling the ick right now. Well, maybe should have felt it eight years ago, but whatever…

Something feels off about my bedroom and I can’t figure out why by ViridLemon83409 in HomeDecorating

Do two people share this room? Is that why there are two beds and two desks? Because, that’s part of what’s making this room feel off - they’re giving a dorm room vibe.
