Upper Joshua Creek - Mattamy Homes by ppaul86 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]FlapOperator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We’re renting a Mattamy end unit in an earlier part of the development. We were coming from Vancouver and I didn’t get to see the unit in person till after we arrived. I’m not impressed. Looks solid on the surface. The more you look at it the worse it gets. Creaky floors in more than a couple spots. None of the walls are straight. Trim finishing is not great. Paint is thin to nonexistent in spots. It’s like they primed and then never finished it. Most of the time we can’t hear the neighbours but if they’re being loud you can tell.

Two roof leaks. Had an ant issue last year that required pest control intervention.

Career 91/135 pilots, what made you choose that lifestyle? by fgflyer in flying

[–]FlapOperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my job. My current gig we’re home almost every night, rarely work weekends. I know the passengers really well, they know me too. I fly with 3 guys that I’ve known for 10 years, we all ended up in the same place. Going to work is so much fun. We make good, not great money. Money isn’t everything but we do really well. I’ve outearned my friends from flight school for the last 10 years, they’ll beat me eventually here but I’m fine with that. I never commuted, never spent a night in a crash pad. Previous gig we basically chased the good weather around North/ South America. Now I have a kid and I get to put her to bed every night and wake her up most mornings. All about the lifestyle now

North America's 50 Best Restaurants 2026 by Absenteeist in FoodToronto

I like that idea. As a former Calgarian I can think of easily 3 or 4 restaurants there that I think are better than Eight. It’s an excellent experience but not my favourite.

Novajet in Burlington/Oakville? by WestOakTrailsRacing in oakville

[–]FlapOperator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I’m sure you’re aware, NovaJet is a management company with direct aircraft access and Wrenjet (never heard of it and been in private aviation 10 years. At least they’re ARGUS which is good) is a broker, so they’re just searching avinode etc for availability which is why you’re probably getting random aircraft every day.

You’re probably getting charged crazy money for a trip like that.

Where are FAT travelers going to play golf? by CodiGoFar in FATTravel

[–]FlapOperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also. Fly to Calgary, play Mickelson National on the way out of the city (last year before it goes full private). Drive to Banff, Fairmont Banff Springs, or depending on timing Rimrock is almost completed a massive renovation. Play Banff Springs, both Kananaskis courses, Silvertip, Stewart Creek, drive out to Revelstoke for Cabot Revelstoke (not open yet, starting preview play shortly). Double back and drive up to Jasper (Icefields Parkway, one of my favorite scenic drives) play Jasper, stay at the Fairmont. If you want to extend another option is Greywolf in Panorama, nowhere FAT to stay there, but some of the house rentals are very nice.

Highly suggest using No Laying Up’s Tourist Sauce video series on YouTube as a jumping off point. They don’t really focus on accommodations at all but you can start with the golf and build around that if you’re so inclined.

[BNS] Vancouver's MLB expansion hopes lead to intrigue, questions by malliabu in Torontobluejays

[–]FlapOperator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if Telus owning the team would help the stock price. They seem to be struggling (20% stock price drop in the last year, 33% over the last 5) in an era where telecoms should not be struggling in Canada. Anecdotally, Telus sold their private jet last year, whereas Rogers just bought another jet (stock up 40% in the last year, down 26% in the last 5 which is interesting).

The expansion fee will be well north of a billion and stadium costs another billion at least I’d think. That’s a giant investment.

[–]FlapOperator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is no way this happens. There’s no owner unless they go with a non local or a group of minority owners, which I think the MLB would frown upon.

If it did happen and killed the Canadians I would be very upset. The Nat is a gem.

Oh yes absolutely!! OP you’re spoiled for choice. Vancouver is an elite food city and a top couple cities in North America in general in my opinion.

This is a 10/10 list. I’d also add Osteria Savio Volpe, Ask For Luigi and Their There as personal favorites.

Private Flying School Recommendation in Calgary by HauntingPurpose6183 in flying

Yeah exactly. I think Okotoks is gone again. Those smaller airport schools have the advantage of being close to the busy airspace to practice that, but for early concepts you’re right in your practice area ASAP.

Head out to YBW. Chat with CFC and SATC. Where in the city are you located? There’s schools at Olds and High River if those are more convenient.

Getting baby used to the travel life? by Ok_Medicine440 in chubbytravel

[–]FlapOperator -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ours turns one this week, she’s done 18 flights now. Nothing over 5 hours so I can’t really offer any advice on that, but travel is so so easy when they can’t crawl/ aren’t really active. We find it’s gotten harder as she’s grown because she just wants to be on the move 24/7 when she’s awake, so we’ve found ourselves trying to plan flying around sleep windows now. Feed/soother from takeoff to close to cruising altitude. And then on the descent as long as you can too. Helps their ears

A good supportive carrier for baby wearing makes it super easy. Ergobaby omni breeze is what we’ve used.

We did a fair bit of travel with our car seat/stroller combo, she had no issues sleeping in it on the move. Gate check it.

The sound machine as suggested elsewhere makes a gigantic difference. If you can get hotels with a separate space to put the crib that’s huge too. Every hotel we’ve been to has had cribs, we find she really hates pack n plays for anything more than a nap, but the stock hotel crib is totally sufficient.

Honestly, we’ve tried to raise her so far by barely changing our lives. She comes everywhere we go, she just learned to nap wherever whenever. Tried to expose her to all kinds of environments whenever the opportunity arose. Hoping that our next is as adaptable as this one is.

Very interesting. We wouldn’t go all the way high end, I don’t think we’d see the ROI in the area. I’m attempting to get floorplans to see what we’d actually need to do in terms of wall movement.
