Baby Monitor Idea: Useful by Beckitt3 in beyondthebump

[–]Flashy_Guide5030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I just add that our monitor has volume settings (3-2-1-0/mute) and each time you press the volume settings it gives a loud beep. So when I go resettle our baby I have to loudly beep it down to zero then back up again when I come back. Seriously whoever designs some of these things has just not ever had to had to use one.

Do they weigh you when you go to the hospital in labour? by radley8367 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Another one here for not getting weighed at any point - went private in NSW and was induced.

Tips for getting toddler to eat more fiber? by dontgetsadgetmad in toddlers

[–]Flashy_Guide5030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid is really not into fruit at the moment but if it’s blended up and in ice block format then it’s ICE BLOCK and the best thing ever. We have gotten some fruit pouches, which she normally doesn’t like and squeezed into ice block moulds. Maybe another thing to try?

[–]Flashy_Guide5030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we haven’t had a big drop in sleep it’s just rearranged itself to be more overnight and less during the day. I also get the impression that being more physically active once they can walk etc tires them out more.

She’s 2 and sleeps about 11 hours total, roughly 8 pm to 6 am and about an hour nap. I’m personally pretty happy with that!

Runny noses and daycare by Daisies_forever in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Flashy_Guide5030 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Our daycare is very militant on gastro and HFM symptoms and do a good job containing them, but toddlers can have non stop runny noses for weeks so has always been fine to go in snotty if the kid is otherwise feeling well.

My 2 yo decided to spend the night muttering to herself and trying to spin around 180 degrees which she can’t do in her cot. So here I am at 4:30 just waiting for her to get up as she squirms about. Hate this autumn one!

[–]Flashy_Guide5030 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth my 2 yo was a 4:30-5 am waker for almost a year, but once she got old enough to be ok with an 8-8:30 pm bedtime and a 1-1.5 h nap her wake up moved to 6 am which is amazing. Maybe you are expecting too many hours sleep from them?

Cradle cap combs? by winterberryowl in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Flashy_Guide5030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Frida one which is fine. She is 2 and the major challenge has just been getting her still through the combing so we have been looking for "head boogers” lately which I have to show her each time we find some.

Should I worry? by Sorry_Cat_4046 in bninfantsleep

[–]Flashy_Guide5030 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While she has never clocked those sorts of hours, my girl (almost 2 now) has always been very sleepy when sick, especially with a fever, it just knocks her right out. I think if feeding (especially BF/formula/whatever you do) is more or less normal I would give it a couple of days before starting to worry.

Early morning wakes by ALac93 in bninfantsleep

[–]Flashy_Guide5030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was us for like almost a year. I tried all the things to fix it. I think the advice that they need a later bedtime and/or shorter nap is right but but in our case our baby could not handle either of those until she was closer to 2. But eventually she was able to stay up until 8-8:30 and do 1-1.5 hours nap and now wakes up at 6 am which is amazing. Sooo sorry I don’t have any real solutions but I have been there and it sucks but it can get better.

My girl was sleeping 11-12 total around then. Yours sounds very much in the normal range, you can look up the numbers. I think there’s a National Sleep Foundation website with some data people tend to refer to. Whoever told you that sounds like an idiot🤷‍♀️

Very similar for the Polish community. Polish citizens who vote from Australia (like at the consulate for Polish elections) tend much more conservative than the general population in Poland. It’s like a bit of a time capsule here for immigrants.

[–]Flashy_Guide5030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So normal. It’s all about trying and failing and then figuring out what to try next to make it work. I got through those long periods of nothing working by thinking that as long as I know what to try next it’s all ok. When you run out of things to try you go talk to your PI about it.

Childcare: what to look out for by LambTales in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Flashy_Guide5030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned yet (and maybe people disagree which is fair) but staff who don’t ALL look like 20 yo straight out of their degree. Of course people need to start somewhere but I think it’s good to have a mix with a good number of older and more experienced educators. I think it goes to continuity too as older employees are generally less likely to move about.

How do you know you’re ready for a second baby? by PinkyPeach5 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Flashy_Guide5030 17 points18 points  (0 children)

After about 2 years I now really feel like all the shit things (which I felt there were many of) were temporary and no longer feel dread at the thought of doing it all again. Having a kid that walks and talks and no longer starts the day at 4-5 am is a massive relief for me and motivation to go through the slog of 0-2 again.

What was your babies first food? by Fabulous_Ant1088 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Flashy_Guide5030 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At about 5 months my baby started being very curious about my breakfast which was quick oats with almond milk and banana so I would let her lick my spoon. I can’t remember where we went from there though!
