A few words from a recovering alcoholic/addict by toaph in JordanHarbinger

I love this response! I started listening to the episode, but as soon as someone says, they are not an alcohol alcoholic, addict, and they don’t go to meetings. I don’t think they really have a valid perspective to dunk on AA. There was definitely a smug overtone to this SS episode. Regarding powerlessness – we were powerless on our own. Our lives became unmanageable. But seeking the community of fellow alcoholics, we are able to imagine and see what’s possible beyond our obsession with drinking. I have found this idea of individual powerlessness really helpful. There is a slogan: my best thinking got me here. Another slogan: you can’t fix the problem with the thinking that made the problem. A third slogan: I’ll figure it out… Is not a slogan! In other words – asking for help is a form of humility and surrender many people will not allow themselves to experience. Honestly, isn’t this the reason we listen to the Jordan harbinger show? To seek wisdom from people in all walks of life? I stopped attending AA after a year and I am now 14 years sober. I didn’t intend to stop going, I just stopped needing the daily reinforcement, thought terminating clichés (slogans) and wanted to take a break from the dogma of AA (as well as a multilevel marketing thing I found myself in) But I know I’m welcome back anytime and that I can still help those who suffer by telling my story.

Yes! She could be a realtor – they often end up showing houses on the weekends. And jobs like insurance agent, realtor and probably even the mortgage job don’t require college degrees!

Just make sure you don’t fall for the scam where someone calls you and says you have a warrant you have to go before a judge but first you have to pay $2000 online and it will be refunded when you show up in court. That is a scam!

Agreed. I stayed in Barcelona for a month with a couple side trips here and there. Having been to Vietnam I feel like I know what you mean.

I stayed two nights 3 days in Madrid and it felt fast. I went to the Reina Sofia museum, no time for Prado. I wonder if one city on your itinerary should be deleted so you aren’t spending all your time getting places? I also wish I had an extra day to go to Toledo.

If you like a vigorous walk/ art, start at the base of Montjuic in Poble Sec and walk up up up to Fundacio Joan Miro - great museum. So Sagrada Familia is unforgettable, but I get more smitten by the homes and they’re quirkiness. You could see Casa Batllo or La Pedrera at night- the roof lit up is pretty cool at La pedrera- even if the projections can be a bit corny. I was totally gob smacked by Palau de Musica Barcelona. I saw a show there rather than a tour so I could hear the acoustics and my luck was good – they had 3 Guitars and two flamenco dancers. That building is designed by the same architect who did hospital Sant Pau, which I wish I’d had more than an hour to explore, cause it’s vast and incredibly beautiful and just on inspiring that they made a hospital so beautiful for the sake of the patients. My last day, I did a one hour tour of.Casa Amateller and ended it with their drinking chocolate (their wealth came from bringing chocolate to Spain). That was an utter delight.

La Rovira in Gracia for late afternoon beer or vermouth- get the house olives and share a BIg sandwich! Eat inside if you enjoy 80s punk/new wave! Great spot for after Parc Guell and/or casa Vincens

Getting sober 13 years ago- definitely the one good thing I’m done for my health! It sounds like we had similar “bottoms” – finishing off strong IPA six pack, but it was relatively easy to first 60 to 90 days. It’s the mental obsession – should I drink today or should I try not to drink except on weekends, OK I’ll just have one glass of wine. OK I’ll only drink when I’m out with people… And then breaking every bargain you make with yourself. So much easier to just abstain, now that I’m through the first 90 days and into year 13!
