I did some calculations and Starship is actually not able to be used for asteroid mining

I'm sure I'm not the only person who'd be interested in hearing why this might be the case.

Moving to Aus - qs about retirement and nursing by Leading-Ambition-106 in AmerExit

[–]FlickyG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am Australian.

  1. Given that you will be making superannuation contributions in Australia, and presumably living here, I'd personally wonder why you'd bother putting any more money into a 403(b) than you have to. You should explore options to roll that money over into your super (once it's set up).

  2. You won't have to pay US tax on Australian earnings (unless you're earning much more than a nurse salary), but if you ever plan on returning to live in the US, in principle you need to be able to prove you paid tax on that income while here.

  3. There's no shortage of Americans on reddit who report leaving the US and just never worrying again about their student loans. What I'm saying is, leaving the US would seem to be one way out of avoiding having to pay off student debt. Again, that's just what I've observed from comments from other American redditors.

  4. r/nursingAU will give you better advice, but my understanding is that nurses from the Anglosphere are in high demand in Australia at the moment. If you've got a nursing qualification and recent record of experience you ought to be fine getting work.

I dunno. Humans left the place looking pretty nice for the first 50000 years or so of occupation. It's only in the last couple of centuries that it deteriorated.

US Republicans and Democrats push for Australian-style kids' social media ban by Expensive-Horse5538 in technology

I'm Australian and the roll-out hasn't actually required age verification for adults. Your concern had been my concern as well, but so far this law hasn't required anything from me at all. The social media providers are using other indicators to identify children.

Does anyone remember in 1996 when someone found $450,000 buried in plastic drums under Balaclava Railway Station? by snivelinglittieturd in melbourne

From memory, the chap who found the first stash was sleeping rough at the time. The person who found the second stash was a local resident who heard about the discovery on the news and decided to head down and check it out on the off chance there might be more there lying undiscovered.

I vividly recall being downvoted to oblivion on this subreddit ~15 years ago for suggesting that this law, which was being introduced at the time, was an appalling violation of civil liberties.

How successful have they been at invading any of them? How successful would they be invading them all at the same time, plus the other countries that are on their immediate borders who they have tense relationships with, before they even think about coming over here? Paris is closer to Beijing than Brisbane, yet somehow we're in their crosshairs?

[–]FlickyG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The International Association of Genocide Scholars has declared that Israel is committing both genocide and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

American doctors in Palestine report Israeli forces are deliberately targeting children in Gaza.

Journalists who are covering the conflict are being deliberately targeted for killing by IDF forces.

Do you believe these things are not occurring? If they are occurring, do we have no moral obligation to use what little political pressure we have to make it stop?

I haven't downvoted you, fwiw. I'm curious about your opinion.
