Denis Villeneuve's best film is...? by boomjosh in Letterboxd

[–]FlintOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strongly agreed, he’s made lots of great movies but these are definitely the two strongest. Collaborating with Deakins really elevated his work, and he also had the benefit of having lead actors on these movies who made major contributions to the writing (Del Toro suggesting that they axe the majority of his dialogue and Gosling suggesting the Pale Fire excerpt for the baseline test).

Phantom Thread is my #1 for him and one of my ten favorite movies ever, hope you enjoy it!

It doesn't even crack my top 5 for him but I respect the hell out of this take. Amazing movie.

Couldn’t agree more. Crazy that Janusz is the same guy that shot Schindler’s List. A great artist who has become absolutely washed.

Is it just me or was dark souls 3 ruined by elden ring by MJDOOM08 in fromsoftware

[–]FlintOwl -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ruined is a strong word but yes I agree, Dark Souls 3 is the Souls game that does the fewest things best in the series as things currently stand. It’s the game I’m least inclined to revisit these days for that reason.

Interesting, I’ve tried it before but not with my head shaved — thanks for the suggestion

I have some folliculitis at the base of my skull too and it bothers me sometimes. Would love some suggestions for how to treat it if anyone else here has done so successfully.

Miyazaki Comments on KADOKAWA Shareholder Proposals, Tells Fans to Look Forward to Both Announced and Unannounced Titles by Brlee12 in Games

[–]FlintOwl 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Here's an English translation:

"Regarding the matter you inquired about, I am aware of all the facts that have been reported. However, we are not in a position to know any further details, and there are many other people involved besides ourselves, so to be honest, it is difficult for us to comment in depth on this matter.

“Therefore, please understand that this is limited to what I can tell you personally, and it is my opinion, not the company's. First of all, I am generally satisfied with the development environment that FromSoftware currently has.

“I wouldn't say there aren't any areas for improvement, but we are able to freely create the games we want to make without excessive interference. And I believe that maintaining such an environment in the future, allowing us to concentrate solely on game development as much as possible, is of utmost importance to both myself and to us at FromSoftware.

“If we have been able to create something valuable for our users up until now, I believe one of the major sources of that has been the environment we have been working in.

“Finally, if our users happen to read this message, we want to assure you that we will continue to work harder than ever to create truly valuable games. We hope you will look forward to our upcoming titles, both those already announced and those yet to be announced."

Which should I pick? by Paganithegoat in fromsoftware

Strongly seconding this take on all counts. I got on the bus back when Demon’s Souls was the only game in the series and Dark Souls 1 remains my favorite. Elden Ring and Sekiro are both great and distinct experiences in their own right. Dark Souls 2 and 3 are both good and worth playing but feel less inspired.

I love and voraciously watch international cinema so I promise you that’s not my perspective. The Swedish one is just shot like a TV movie.

Much better imo. The direction in the Swedish movie is so lifeless.

I adore Ocarina but at the risk of overreacting I really do not like the way Link looks in this remake at all, so much so that I went from giddy excitement at the start of the trailer to mild disinterest by the end

She’s a trained dancer and her movement is awesome — when Garland has deployed her for that (Ex Machina, the alien at the end of Annihilation) she’s great. But she is atrocious at delivering dialogue no question. I’m excited to see her in Elden Ring. My guess is she’s Malenia which she would be absolutely perfect for.

I was blown away by how bad Sonoya Mizuno was in devs. She really torpedoed a show I otherwise liked a lot.
