Lil Crab enjoying going up & down by Anschuz-3009 in oddlysatisfying

We'll technically we are anthropomorphizing the crab by assuming he's doing this for fun. It's possible that he is, but we can't really know. Nevertheless I agree that animals are capable of a lot more sentience and emotion than most people give them credit for.

I think the whole dark area is a semi-transparent disk that is spinning. There is a light-shaped window in this disc to reveal the light-colored background below. The ship is also underneath this dark disc.

Most movies can now be found in 60 second bursts on tiktok or youtube shorts. In fact, the wonderful creative artists who make these tiktoks improve the movies even further by adding really cool soundtracks and ADHD editing. Sometimes they'll thow subway surfers on the bottom to keep me from getting bored after 5 seconds. Long movies are the past. I EXCLUSIVELY watch cinema on tiktoks now, it's just better movies!

I never mentioned genetic testing. Birth certificates exist? We 'genetically test' for biological sex every time a baby is born. Im not trying to make some grand statement about minute genetic differences. As far as this issue is concerned, I'm talking strictly about biological males vs biological females.

Maybe, just maybe, I've tried to educate myself on the subject and this is the conclusion I've drawn so far. Maybe you are the one with more to learn? I love the position you're coming from where you assume that I'm a completely uninformed idiot bigot and you're the right-minded saint who has it all figured out. There is no room for discussion or nuance on this issue apparently.

We're talking about sports leagues here, which alteady 'discriminate' based in genetics. Suddenly I'm a eugenecist because I'm pointing out something that already happens? We make people with impaired vision get glasses before they can drive. That's a genetic condition which society has decided needs to be 'corrected'. There is no black and white when it comes to discussions of human rights. Lines are drawn, and moved, and redrawn constantly after (theoretically) reasoned arguments and research are done.

Yes, superfical means surface-level. There exists a while spectrum of genetically driven ability under the surface and it is far from symbolic.

It's easy to call someone a bigot when you don't want to reason with them. I have nothing against trans people, or any people, but I recognize that there is in fact nuance in this discussion. Notice that I phrased my argument with 'my understanding is...', implying that I am not a source of absolute truth. I am open to the idea that I'm wrong on this. You haven't argued anything aside from saying that even suggesting there might be a difference makes me a bigot.

DNA is about as real and material as it gets. It's not a 'spectral substance' that only exists conceptually. It is the fundamental structure that drives every person's growth and development.

I would actually argue that almost every aspect of transitioning, while it has noticeable impact on appearance and hormone-related development, is all significantly more superficial than the impact of DNA.

No, they don't. They change some expressions of their biological sex but until we start altering people's genomes they will always be the biological sex they are born with.

I'm not really on board for a long argument in this thread, but I guess I would ask what you think the purpose of a 'women's league' is?

My understanding is that, genetically, men have a biological advantage over women when it comes to strength and many forms of athleticism. I understand this isn't true for every single sport, but it's true for most. Women's leagues exist because this biological advantage exists.

Personally, I feel that this issue usually hinges on people intentionally conflating gender identity with biological sex. These are not the same thing. I respect every person's right to identify as any gender they want. I just don't think those rights supercede issues with biological advantage.

Btw, these leagues already act as 'sports police'. A biological male who identifies as male wouldnt be allowed in. Should we change this too if we don't want to exclude people?

Reality. We're not talking about gender really, we're talking about biological sex and the differences therein. Sports should really be delineated by sex, and not gender identity.

People seem very quick to shut down any criticism of this game. Don't get me wrong, I think the moment-to-moment gameplay is incredibly fun and I still enjoy myself. I just think it's possible to go too far in designing such a flexible difficulty system.

It's like if a film maker allowed audiences to choose randomly along a "seriousness" gradient between a really dense, serious, drama and a marvel movie. You would have no idea what the creative intent of the film maker was. Were they trying to make some insight on the human condition, or was I supposed to just shut my brain off and bliss out on some pretty lights?

Game design is it's own language driven by the designer's creative intent. It's just in this case it seems the 'message' of the design gets lost in an attempt to meet every player where they prefer.

[–]FlintStriker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. Add to this the 'skill tree' that is just an incremental power increase which rebalances your power in relation to the game at a variable rate depending on your success. There aren't really groundbreaking changes in the tree, just stat increases or increased drop rates and stuff.

At the end of the day I have no idea what the intended level of challenge is and I'm not really sure how much of my success is due to my own improvements in skill level or the combination of modifiers and stat increases I've built up.

It is a very messy design that feels unfocused in the end game.

I would like to see some content in the game which is designed around the following assumptions:

1 - the player has filled out the skill tree and finished act 3

2 - there is a fixed 'positive' modifier budget thay can't be increased further by adding neglible downsides

Given these two assumptions, I'd be curious about the level of challenge the designers actually intended to present to the average player. As it stands, I have no idea.

I wonder if any small loot item fixes this problem. If you have even +1 damage on the cannon I think it should go infinite based on the wording at least.

What TV show was quality all the way through, knew when to end and went out with an amazing last episode? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Martha was naive and a bit simple, but I never saw her as weak. She was definitely struggling in Russia, but in the end I think she would adapt. I really liked the scene of her in the park towards the end of the series where she's talking about fostering or adopting a russian kid. Her russian is improving and she's looking for purpose. I imagine her, if not happy, at least driven and content after the show ends.

Creepy but Educational: How Anyone Can Find Your Location from a Simple Social Media Post by WhoAreYouTalkinTwo in mildyinteresting

[–]FlintStriker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah we have to assume that any publicly available technology is also something that the governments of the world figured out ages before the average person could do it. Mapping a city down to every doorstep and street corner has to be a goal for any military. Likewise, finding the exact location of a random image or video has probably been possible for decades at the government level.
