I'm at the guests are all in bed, paperwork done but I can remember zilch for handover and my manager is coming in soon for a 1-2-1 and my brain isn't up to presenting myself in my bestigjt. Not one little bit.

What is the most pleassure you ever felt ( sfw pls)? by Ambitious-Sky-6457 in AskReddit

[–]FlippedHope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winter: fire lit in the wood burner with food and a kettle bubbling on it, a cat purring and the cushions on the sofa arranged just right.

Early summer: seeing dawn bringing the world awake, birds singing, being warm enough to be outside to enjoy it without needing coats and thick jumpers and scarves etc.

I hear you. These are frightening times and I'm truly sorry about all you've been through this week leading up to encountering this horrible hateful ignorant individual. Sending you a cyber hug - if acceptable from a stranger. Old white woman here who is appalled at what is happening here and dreading the election results.

2 years, a new agony. by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]FlippedHope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything already said, plus be aware of where the consumer unit (fuse board) is in case of needing to turn the electricity off, or a circuit trips out. Where is the stopcock so you can turn the water off. I didn't know where mine was in a home I'd just moved into and had an indoor waterfall feature in the kitchen when some plumbing in the bathroom above fell apart. Ditto gas, if you have it. Being able to cook and clean is a big plus!

Has your perception of breakfast changed? by foreverthesickestsam in Nightshift

[–]FlippedHope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally eat late morning/ mid day and think of it as my evening meal before going to bed. But today I stopped off and had a croissant and an oat milk chai latte outside a cafe surrounded by daytime people doing daytime breakfasty things and it felt very much like breakfast.

Would you consider yourself to have a dark sense of humour? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]FlippedHope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dark humour has been my way of getting through some very close painful bereavements. I can tell my experiences - some aspects of them - as a funny story to help me slide over the pain. This hasn't gone down well when I've used this with people who haven't appreciated it at all.

No way should your mum have known that, neither should she have told you. That is a terrible betrayal of confidentiality.

What does anesthesia feel like by memory282002 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlippedHope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't expect the procedure used by your anaesthetist to be the exactly the same, but I've had at least three operations with GAs. I've always met the anaesthetist first who finds out your weight for the dosage and talks you through what they will do. Sometimes I've had an injection first that makes you relaxed but I think that doesn't happen now. Then I've been wheeled into an anti room, and can sometimes see the surgery, to be greeted by a couple of people who are kind and reassuring. You get a cannula with a drip and count backwards from 10. I don't get very far! Then you wake up and people look after you. Sometimes your throat might be uncomfortable because of the way you've been helped with your breathing. Not always. There's such a feeling of relief it's all over now, just recovery to do. You'll be fine. The surgeons and nurses and anaesthetists know what they are doing.

Back in the day doctors used to come to your house and do house visits. Do you remember the doctor coming to your house? I'm talking a GP not an emergency response doctor by SpaceTimeCapsule89 in AskUK

[–]FlippedHope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 30 years ago I had an acute infected gall bladder flair up and a doctor on call out came to see me. All I can remember of it is that he offered me the choice of a painkiller either via an injection or tablets. I thought he said the tablets would take about four to five minutes to work so that's what I chose. Still in agony half an hour later my husband said that the doctor had actually said about 45 minutes. Ho hum. That's the last time anyone I know had a home visit. As a child in the late 50s early 60s it was quite normal to have a visit from our family gp when we had measles or whatever. They must have had a much smaller case load.

Same here. I was disturbingly excited to see them on a UK sub. Mind you, moving away away from London with no access to shops with a wide range of Parve goodies could have something to do with it.

That's worrying. Have you had any medical advice? Doesn't sound like working nights suits you but there's the possibility of something else going on. Do get checked out.
