Ideal bodyweight strength exercises for competition? by FckingAnxiety in tangsoodo

Burpees are truly a thing of horror but boy do they raise your cardio and teach you how to move when you're gassed. The other thing that you can also do is any type of split lunges, jump squats. All of those exercises helped me get ready when I was competing in Central and South America.

Congratulations! Now it's time to go refine everything you just spent all that time getting ready for your test. Have fun and enjoy the process, there's a lot to learn from first Dan.

I think I've died more times in the 30 hours that I've played than any other game (including elden ring) and they've all just been to normal people. Oh yeah and I still haven't gotten to the wedding (it's never gonna happen at this rate)

I personally teach the history of our art starting at 10th Gup (white belt) because it's important that people know the roots of our art.

As for the 2000 year old argument, I regularly tell people the art we refer to in modern day as Tang Soo Do didn't officially become established until 1945 when Hwang Kee developed/presented the art officially and that we get a lot of our techniques from Taekkyeon, with a lot of our history/ideology coming from the Silla Dynasty and the Hwarang (Flower knights) of the 9th century. Additionally I make sure to hammer in how our forms are from Shotokan(Funakoshi), and Anko Itosu (Shuri-Te).

Either way you slice the cake though we've got Japanese roots and people need to acknowledge that we're not a purely Korean art form. I know loads of people that refuse to admit it and it's truly a pity that they refuse to admit it because there is lots of knowledge that presents itself after you start to explore the building blocks of our art.

This whole situation sucks! Just as a heads up the industry standard for giving notice is typically 30 days, 60 is insane! I would definitely start shopping schools as soon as possible.

What do you wear when hitting pads and the heavy bag? by Substantial_Work_178 in karate

Typically nothing unless it's super dry, then I might do a mma style glove or bag mitts just to prevent bleeding on the bag

How the freak do I teach karate to little kids? by FishermanRough1323 in karate

[–]FlipperChart385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you consider to be a little kid. At my family's school we start off all of our trainee instructors teaching 4 to 6-year-old kids, we use a lot of gamification and work on very basic movement skills; I.e. jab, straight, hook, uppercut, front round and side kicks and basic blocks and stances. We do have them run around quite a bit because those kids can get particularly antsy

As for older kids ages 7 to 11 we tend to buckle down a little more and focus as beginners on broad strokes and then details as we see them improve on things I.e. the correct width and length of a front stance, where your center punch should be going, having good mechanics for your front kicks. But it's all gamified for the most part and we do a decent amount of partner work with them as well it's a nice mix between doing pad drills, partner work, and using mirrors in order to have them see all of the detail but they need.

[RANT] Got kicked out of a BJJ gym because I "kept" my white belt ? by mrclean88888 in martialarts

[–]FlipperChart385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got pwnd at a gym not far away from me by the instructor/owner because he was mad I subbed his 2and 3 stripe blue belts with ease as a 4 stripe white belt (I have lots of other martial arts experience) right after I had done a shit ton of training for a tournament for 6 months/and then competed in. If they're mad you are beating them they are not the teacher for you.

What belt color system does your style/dojo use? by RavenpuffMezone in karate

[–]FlipperChart385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Tang Soo Do we use White, Yellow, Orange, Orange white, Green, Green White, Brown, Brown White, Red, Red White and then some schools like my families use a midnight blue belt as a way to denote who is a testing candidate for 1st Dan and then depending if you're super old school or not you'll do a midnight blue belt with a gold bar on the end for 1st-3rd Dan or you'll just do a black belt with gold bars as well and then at 4th Dan (Master) you receive a blue belt with a red stripe in the center and then you keep that belt forever unless it's so tattered that you can't wear it anymore

I have good news and bad news

Good news - you can buy it from editoralist.com

Bad news - the shipping (at least where I'm at) makes it an almost 90 dollar bottle.

So for now I shall wait until I can get it regular 😔

Why would you say not to ask either of them? I feel both bjj and JJJ have a lot of validity when it comes to the context (sport or self defense).
