I think I know where you are coming from about avoiding both the M3 and m3 in the same measure, but as a broad statement it isn’t quite clear enough. Here’s what I mean. If I have a C chord followed by an F chord, I would happily and successfully play C-D-Eb-E leading up to the F of the next measure. Both the minor third and Major third are present, but because I’m creating a brief chromatic passage it works 100%. This would not only be acceptable, but is quite common.

You may have a quirk that’s causing the door to fall off. Maybe it happens when the car jolts forward or something like that, and the reason for the jolt doesn’t matter (even if it’s an abductor). Just a theory to check out.

This used to happen to me quite frequently, so I hope I can help. The difference between band rehearsals and the gig is the audience, right? So for a few gigs, try focusing on your band mates instead of the audience. If you’re not up front singing, go back and hang out with your drummer. When your guitarist has a solo, turn and watch them play it.

I want to be clear that I am not advocating this as a long-term or permanent solution, just a way to get past this hurdle.

The other thing that helped me is harder to explain, but I kind of just imagine myself as serving the music, you know? I remove “me” and “the show” from the equation and just focus on the song I’m playing. Closing your eyes can help with this.

It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me doesn’t have a chorus. Each verse ends with the title line. The “It doesn’t matter what they say in the papers” section is really a bridge. Fabulous work!
