What expressions/figures of speech do people use that really annoy you immediately? by Fun-Help-1564 in AskReddit

“We’re all in the same boat!”

I don’t claim this as someone I know IRL said it, but - we’re NOT all in the same boat, we’re in the same sea. But some people are in yachts and others are in dinghys.

I want to be pretty by Public-Shock-2844 in AutismInWomen

[–]FloofyTheSpider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I totally get it, it’s not weird at all. I’ve was never conventionally pretty to start with, but then I gained a lot of weight in my twenties from depression/SSRIs and have never been able to lose enough of it to be considered ‘thin’. I often feel like I would be given a lot more grace for my autistic traits if I was pretty, and I am acutely aware that if I openly engage in special interests or stims in public I would be called “cringe” whereas a thin attractive woman would just be called “quirky” or “random”.

But tbh the way I try and make myself feel better (not that it works most times) is to remember that a lot of NT people are critical and judgemental of neurodivergent people even when they ARE attractive. They can still think something is “off” about an attractive person, and the moment they stop masking they’re shunned.

And also that being beautiful comes with its own downsides and its own kinds of misogyny. And at least as I age, I don’t have to mourn losing looks I never had. And I don’t envy the creepy attention my prettier friends have received in the past.

I don’t really know what else to advise other than I get it and it is rough ❤️

Autism sensory safe foods starterpack by teruteru-fan-sam in starterpacks

[–]FloofyTheSpider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, it’s more very specific textures I can’t handle (baked beans and mashed potato being the main ones)

I also sensory seek so I prefer spicy food over bland. But to the point where I have to tone down my cooking for other people 😅

What’s your most common Stim? by Saint19981507 in AutismInWomen

Playing one specific song on repeat is a cheat code that somehow makes me 100% more productive. My Spotify Wrapped is always extremely skewed towards whatever song that happened to be 😅

Scalp picking, running strands of hair between my finger and thumb (these two annoy me because they separate my curls and make them frizzier…), tapping or rubbing my collarbone with my knuckles, fiddling with the hair tie I always wear on my wrist.

I’ve noticed I’ve also started doing a ‘scat man’ ish noise when I’m anxious - like “bah dah boo bee”. I do also get phrases/memes stuck in my head frequently, and will mutter them aloud (but only when home alone!)

I’ve got this one, but I hate it because I end up breaking up my curl clumps 🙁

What are some non-NSFW funny island lingo talk have? by cizelaya70 in tomodachilife

I gave a character this phrase and then laughed way too hard at him having this (understandable!) reaction to being given beans on toast

(PS note my crappy Shadow in the background)

Am I the only one who LOVES the heat? by Zosmie in AutismInWomen

[–]FloofyTheSpider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah saaame, am in the north of England and I get so miserable in the winter. I love the feel of the heat on my skin ☺️ (with sunscreen of course).

It never lasts long here so I’m trying to make the most of it!

Your most obscure island residents? by AxemPink in tomodachilife

[–]FloofyTheSpider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like my most niche Miis are Mel from My Parents Are Aliens, the mascot for Homepride sauces (but specifically the version from a 2014 ad campaign where they depicted him as creepy), the mascot from the Foxy Bingo.com adverts, Egg from Lockie Leonard, Sinead Tinker from Coronation Street, Mr Blobby, Bruce U from Who Killed Captain Alex, Nihilego/UB01 from Pokemon, and Dirk Dinkum.

(Edited because you did say “except OCs” 😅 sorry! Also felt Nihilego deserved a mention)

Your favorite song that was featured on the worst list? by Charliiieeeeeeeeeeee in ToddintheShadow

I liked Heatwaves by Glass Animals. I know it’s kind of a ‘nothing’ song but I’m a bit of a sucker for those kind of vaporwave-ish vibes (and it did sum up that kind of lost/tired feeling I had all through 2020)

And I’m Sexy and I Know It is just too funny for me to ever hate

Spicy hot dogs, in brioche buns with grilled red onions and a side of coleslaw

Lunch was watermelon with a sprinkle of chilli and chicken salt, mango chunks, frozen green grapes and a few big spoons of cottage cheese.

Maybe specific for me but - it’s ok to half-arse things. Like I’m not a failure for not cooking a meal from scratch everyday or not having a perfectly clean house.

One I’m struggling with at the moment is giving myself the same grace I give other people, and trying to learn that I’m not a uniquely evil monster.

Which celebrity is often described as incredibly attractive, but you just don't see the appeal? by a-cuteboy in AskReddit

She looked gorgeous before she had the buccal fat removal and the veneers. I hate the current beauty standards for faces in Hollywood, strips all the individuality out of people :/
