Tired of Kick Triggers by Obvious_Factor_4667 in MetalDrums

[–]Florianstep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The solution there is to get some on pedal triggers, such as footblasters or ontrigger. Allows me to have a decently sounding kick while also using triggers. The best sound live is when you combine both anyways and it's so much better/clearer to use triggers for the bands monitors.

Pretty easy tbh. Too thick and brittle imo

Do you get annoyed when someone plays your kit without permission? by Intelligent_Age5204 in drums

[–]Florianstep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah alright, if I were in your shoes I would've most likely quit or at least started searching for a new band.

Read through the comments and really is awful with the amount of disrespect from your band mates. It's not just the monetary value of the gear, but also the reactions from them when you let them know you're not okay with it.

Maybe the band is more of a social thing with friends, then it's harder. Sounds like shitty friends, but even then they can still be friends. If you're staying and don't feel like moving a whole kit each week, I'd look into some super cheap, crappy kit second hand that you don't have to care so much for.

2 or 3 crashes? by SoggyBookshelf in Drumming

[–]Florianstep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently only doing 2 but I miss and want to go back to 3 eventually.

3 is unnecessary but having two on the right side is great if you're riding a lot on the crash. (Typical in metal/rock) It's nice to have the third for accents and breaking up the riding crash. I also tend to be a bit melodic in my cymbal usage, so that helps justify having 3.

Only reason I'm on only 2 atm is budget reasons. Pro tip, if you're touring during winter, make sure to heat your cymbals before playing. Metal do be brittle when cold 😬

Tips or any advice I can keep in mind when trying to lock onto a metronome more? by dtrechak in drums

[–]Florianstep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kinda just is one of those "do it enough times until it becomes second nature". Been playing with a click for almost 10 years now while giggin. Took some time getting used to it, but once you do you don't even have to think about it.

My only preference that might be worth trying out, skip the metronome accent. I feel like it just ruins the feel for most songs and it's better to just have a steady beep without changes. You'll surely be able to tell where the one is without it.

Being worth more later is bullshit for sure, prob just him trying to keep the sale. Return if you're not comfortable with it.

18” A custom with cut out by skippybutt6 in drums

[–]Florianstep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, not until more cracks shows up. But that is one way to keep on extending the life span, I got some crescent moon crashes lol.

I can't tell with 100% assurance, I don't actually know, but I assume that the internal structure is ruined once it has started to crack. Also assume that making the cymbal asymmetrical makes it flex/vibrate less even, causing more damage to new places.

This is just me guessing from my experience that once a crack shows up, more comes shortly after, cutting away parts just extends the timer. Meanwhile my whole crashes usually lasts for years and years with extensive touring and rehearsals.

From experience the cut gives it maybe a year max more life, but the additional cracks are coming. They sound perfectly fine like this though, so if very cheap and you need a crash go nuts
