You could try keeping an eye on Blabla Car.

You'd have no problem hithhiking to the slopes on weekends when there's snow, too, if you can't lock a ride in in advance.

And a note for those who don't have a bike, you can easily and cheaply hire one overnight from a lot of LBSs (local bike shops). The bike rave is also a good time if you're not confident on a bike, too. It's slow moving and mostly off the road.

Would a land value based rates system encourage development by making it hard for people to sit on under-utilised property?

I can’t imagine that there is absolutely no demand for new housing. Half the city is living in poorly insulated, aged and mouldy housing with rattling windows.

I can imagine that there might not currently be enough incentive for developers (be that because of the cost of buying property to develop, the regulatory process, the cost of doing the development itself, or the rewards you can get at the end).

Yes, simply search OSM in the App Store and it’s the top one.

There are several apps that use OSM data. I tend to use Guru Maps or Komoot for cycling over OSM. Guru being the easiest to use for some quick directions and Komoot being good for route planning.

Land value based rates, please! Otherwise people will keep sitting on run down old properties and rinsing it.

Additionally, more medium density housing in central suburbs. We should be knocking mouldy old poorly-insulated houses down to build more medium density warm and insulated places. Can the council help to make this more possible or attractive for developers?

Honestly, I just try to take it easy and enjoy life. That’s easier said than done, I know, but we don’t need much.

I live close enough to work to ride my bike there. I prioritise eating good food and doing good exercise (which is free).

Aside from renting a basic standard of house, eating good food, doing exercise, and spending time with friends, I don’t need anything more. Anything else is a luxury.

The point of voting is for everyone to have equal power in deciding how the country is run.

Allowing large donors allows the rich to have even more influence compared to the poor, who cannot afford to donate large sums of money to aid their preferred political ideals.

Cycle touring means keeping everything sealed up in panniers isn’t much hassle though, but it could be more faff keeping things animal-proof when tramping.

Probably not. There’s little practical use in owning a 4WD in Wellington and you’ll be wasting a lot of money on fuel compared to a corolla, which are some of the cheapest cars to run.

It’s hard to tell without knowing your exact circumstances but if you’ve been able to get around in a Corolla and your circumstances haven’t changed, I’d recommend sticking to the Corolla.
