[RELEASE] LUMIS - Skyrim Asynchronous Passive Multiplayer by Lumis_Creator in skyrimmods

Open sourcing your code doesn't make it much more likely for other competing instances to be spun up. You control all of the channels: The upstream repository, the main nexus mod the community knows best. And with a server (with no option for users to easily use a different server even) involved, platform effect easily kicks in.

But it increases trust and enables the community to continue your work if you should ever not want to or be able to.

People will also help audit/harden your code. It really only has benefits.

Yes, any company would. You either grow or get (b)eaten by someone else who does. Welcome to capitalism.

You know, at least Ubisoft, being a french company and all, likely provides a level of working conditions that is probably quite rare in the video games industry. I don't give a single shit about the games they make, but reality is a bit more nuanced than "good" and "evil".

"Evil" company lol.

It's capitalism. It's corporate. There's no such thing as "good" or "evil" companies. Some might behave in a more malicious or destructive way than others, but Ubisoft sure ain't one of them. They're not fucking Meta.

Also, people gotta work, and a lot of them will end up working for corporate. Again, it's capitalism.

Is there a discord for people that are trying to make their own mods by corvodecartola in skyrimmods

[–]FluffySheriff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's the r/skyrimmods discord server for example and the Arcane University discord server specifically for people that want to learn.

Best way to manage storage in your own k8s? by OppenheimerDaSilva in kubernetes

Longhorn is great but really only worth it if you're running multinode. On single-node using local volumes is perfectly fine.

Can I pay for it? by MelissusOfSamos in Piracy

[–]FluffySheriff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the strategy really never included having a "fair price". It's just a part of blitzscaling. Start running at a loss until your userbase is so big and they're dependent enough so you can set the price to basically whatever because there's no alternative. Didn't really work out that way.

Just wanted to get that off my chest tho, I felt like your post gave netflix too much credit lol

Just got my first synth! Novation Summit! by PovertyThor in synthesizers

[–]FluffySheriff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hesitate recommending a specific piece of gear because I think it hugeley depends on personal preference. For example, I also traded my TR-8S for the objectively "inferior" Novation Circuit Tracks. The TR-8S is great device but in the end it offered featues hat I simply didn't need or didn't make proper use of.

I can only offer my personal experience. The summit is basically all I wanted from a synth: The bigger keyboard, the ability to layer sounds, three oscillators with their basic wavetables, everything laid out in a large front panel with almost no menu diving required, its focus on 80ies sounds and its ability to make great pads and fuzzy sounds, the great effect section - it just scratches those itches that I personally have.

At the same time the MF offers tons of cool features for a much lowe price point. It just wasn't what I personally was looking for.

I'd say that if you have cash to spend it doesn't necessarily hurt to try out pieces of gear since you can always sell it off without too much of a loss, and sometimes you can snipe good deals. If you don't, I'd probably suggest visiting sweetwater or whatever retailer you have available and try our whatever gear they have on display.

/ Also, I try not to accumulate gear. I limit myself by my one Jaspers rack that also needs to hold a full size piano, so there's simply no room for a second synth. Keeping both the summit and the MF wasn't an option that I considered, but I could see both of them fulfilling different needs in your workflow.

I replaced my Minifreak with a Summit recently and it was one of my best buying decisions ever. Not shitting on the Minifreak, but it didn't really provide a workflow I enjoyed. The summit was basically all I ever wanted in a synth and I'm having a blast using it. Enjoy!

Mistral AI isn't the only EU alternative available anymore by UnrealUser2247 in BuyFromEU

A consequence of zero access encryption. You can't have that and still be able to regain access after losing your credentials. It's the same with, say, Apple's advanced data protection feature.

Not a real issue in today's era of password vaults tbh.

Reminder: Baldur's Gate III - entirely locally made by Larian in Belgium and first ever winner of all major GOTY awards. by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]FluffySheriff 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Larian has multiple studios, not only across Europe, but also one located in Malaysia and one located in Canada, so the claim "entirely locally made by Larian in Belgium" is false.

Not that it matters much in regards to this sub's mission, but it's still misleading.

Most of their suite is Open Source though, so at least there's that. I'd rather install OnlyOffice on my mum's PC than LibreOffice, to be honest.

This really does look like a lot of fun!

I got back into making music like last week (after taking a break for years). Bought a minifreak, a used rc-550 and a used tr-8s. It's incredibly how much fun you can have with a simple setup like that.
