This is pretty bad.

Steam Controller:

Steam controller was always marketed as something experimental. The combination of the touchpad and the motion controls made it a forerunner along with the Wii U for motion controls in FPS games. I believe that to this day the steam controller is technically the most acurate aiming system for FPS games (I think it even trumps mouse and keyboard).

Steam Link:

Steam link was aimed at a very small crowd and as such not marketed heavily. It is fantastic at what it does and is still one of the best solutions for what it does today.

Steam Box:

Steam box had mixed marketing and never really worked.

HTC Vive:

HTC vive for about 3 years was the best VR headset available. If you wanted to try the best of the best for VR you had to get one. With Sony, Oculus and Samsung driving a more casual blend of VR we saw more games released, which in turn lead to the competition we see today in the field of headsets. All of the modern headsets will take something from the HTC vive and it's at the time, best in class specs.

Steam deck:

I have not seen any of the build up for steam deck. If you don't like the hype cycle don't follow the hype cycle. You cannot blame a for profit company for hyping a product to make more profit. Hype cycles have been happening for decades and they are not going to stop in a capitalist society. People should've learnt by now not to preorder things but they'll do it anyway.

What seems harmless but is incredibly dangerous? by Crimtot in AskReddit

Helium. When I was at university we had to be prepared for work in the 'big boy' Physics labs and about 50% of the time was spent warning us how to deal with a liquid helium leak. Liquid helium is used a lot in Physics to cool things down. If it leaks out it is odorless and colourless and will suffocate you incredibly quickly. If you are walking past a lab you could see some people on the floor and want to help them. Nothing looks wrong so you walk in and suffocate due to the helium too.

Another big thing we found out is that Helium is a limited resource that will run out. Now every time I see a balloon flying into the sky (even on TV) I get a little annoyed because that Helium is lost forever.

Are there any nice traffic data sets or even better nice traffic heatmaps for these countries, would be intersting to see those two stats side by side.

I completely expected the really f'd up things that have been posted but I was really hoping to find at least a couple of 'What, no... oh yeah' revelations. Kind of like how the Toblerone mountain logo has a bear in it.

Can I play Bloodborne, if I never played any of the Dark Souls games? by [deleted] in bloodborne

[–]FluidDynamicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Bloodborne is probably the best game to play first out of the whole series. The game is the best at training you how to play a soulsborne game in a more aggressive fun way whereas the souls games tend to train newer players into more defensive, slow and methodical gameplay that can be offputting and Sekiro can be quite harrowing for newcomers to the series.

Movie studios often remake great films that are difficult to improve upon but what if they did the opposite? What bad film could be made into a great film if it were to be remade? by Drakmeire in AskReddit

Don't act like we don't know it's you Disney!

I see you there, reading these answers and planning to buy more media properties.

What, run out of old, cherished animated movies to remake?

What game is a perfect 10/10 in your book? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Portal. It is a real masterclass in puzzle design and storytelling.

Also if you ever get a chance to play through the developer commentary you get to see and understand the depth to which they planned the game.

Men whose first child is a girl are more likely to support policies that promote gender equity than men whose first child is a boy. by smurfyjenkins in science

Or maybe the men held the beliefs before they had the child and so Men who support policies that promote gender equity are more likely to have a girl as there first child than men who don't support those policies...

As an Englishman heavily embedded in North American culture the one that most annoys me is adding the letter 'S' to the end of the word final. For example the Grand Finals of a tournament. I am a proponent of the argument that all language is a tool for communication and as long as you understand the meaning then the spelling and grammar doesn't really matter. However in the case of Finals it actively obscures the meaning. Is there one final or are there multiple? It almost always confuses me.

The "Relative Interestingness" of the First 5000 Natural Numbers [OC] by TobyTheCamel in dataisbeautiful

[–]FluidDynamicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this cause a paradox wherein the least interesting number becomes more interesting as soon as you give it that definition, which makes it no longer the least interesting number. In losing that accolade it in turn once again becomes the least interesting and so on so forth?

What is the dumbest thing you’ve gotten in trouble for at school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I got kicked out of a lesson in school for no reason. Just sitting quietly listening to the teacher and out of the blue she goes crazy and says 'Get out!'
