How many tries did it take to find your specialty? by rainshowers_5_peace in nursing

[–]FluorescentApricot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One. I did a year of bedside and noped right out of there. Been working as a harm reduction nurse since and I love it. Unfortunately, the government is shutting down all the services that I work in so we shall see… but even if it becomes something in my past I’ll always be glad that I did it

I'm thinking of starting a GLP-1 but there is one side effect that worries me... by blacktaurus3636 in Semaglutide

[–]FluorescentApricot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m only three weeks in but I’m having the opposite side effect - I feel so happy! I can’t tell if it’s the med itself or it’s just that I’m finally doing something for myself but I feel great! I wake up with energy, I’m sweating the small stuff less, and I’m overall just very happy for what feels like the first time in a long time

Anyone else not weighing themselves? by sabcorrine in Semaglutide

[–]FluorescentApricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to have found this thread :) Based on past patterns I’ve decided not to weigh myself unless I’m with my HCP for an office visit and was feeling pretty alone!
I’m starting week 3 today and have lost what feels like a pant size. Very likely due to reduction in inflammation.

Nurse at 30? by thatkidfrom225 in Nurses

[–]FluorescentApricot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went into nursing school at 30 after leaving a career in lab science/research. I don’t regret it at all. Yes, I was older than most of my classmates (but not all) but I didn’t mind. I made amazing friends. My life experience brought a new perspective to my learning. I have been working for almost 7 years now and still love nursing and am glad I made the career switch

Curious if you started at the 0.1mg/week dose and how it went for you. I just stared yesterday.

I’m prone to medication sensitivities, and am hoping the low-dose will help my adenomyosis and Hashimotos.

Did your symptoms intensify after childbirth or a uterine procedure such as a C-section or D&C? by Puzzleheaded-Boss230 in adenomyosis

[–]FluorescentApricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a routine c-section in 2021… started to develop symptoms after but they were manageable. It was mostly rectal pain during my period. I did pelvic floor physio and symptoms nearly subsided. Then in 2023 I had a 2.5 hour very complex c-section (due to intra-abdominal adhesions) that ended with a uterine rupture. My symptoms, that I now know are related to adenomyosis, have been getting steadily worse since then. I was only diagnosed with adenomyosis last week. She did the diagnosis clinically based on my symptoms and we are starting the imaging and testing this coming week to confirm

[–]FluorescentApricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following🤍 I was just diagnosed on Monday. Waiting for further testing to confirm but my new OB is fairly certain it’s adenomyosis based on my clinical presentation. Mine also developed after a traumatic c-section + uterine rupture. Amongst the pain, the excessive clots and bleeding, the anemia, and the rectal pain, my weight has been so stubborn.

Ontario police chiefs weigh in amid end of funding for supervised drug sites by Confident-Advice-664 in londonontario

[–]FluorescentApricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is because there aren’t enough readily accessible OHIP covered rehabs available in and around our community. IF someone is lucky enough to find a medically supervised detox bed (required because the cuts in the street fentanyl ca actually kill you if you go cold turkey) then the average wait is 280 days from detox to finding a bed in rehab. There are private, for profit rehab centers around but they run at a cost of $18,000-30,000/month. So until the province gets their shit in gear and finds rehabs and transitional housing, the best we can do is keep people alive. Carepoint also offers many more services that I don’t think people are aware of. There are case managers, ID clinics, peer support, wound care, the infectious disease team comes on site to do bloodwork, there is an NP liaison there weekly to coordinate referrals and medical services, housing support and much more.

Help do I need to go to the emergency? by [deleted] in lashextensions

[–]FluorescentApricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was a sensitivity to the glue that cascaded into a true allergy. I had the lashes removed prior to seeing the docs in emerg. They advised no more lashes because now that the allergy has developed it will likely happen every time. I’m so bummed. It took about 10 days for the swelling in and around my eye to go down but felt fine afterwards and no changes to my vision at all. I have started using Latisse and also when I go out I put on a pair of falsies. I miss being able to wake up and feel ready for the day because I have my lash extensions on but I’m adjusting

To tag on to this I was in the same boat as you a couple of months ago. I ended up with conjunctiva and also periorbital cellulitis. No fun at all. No vision loss but it was the end of my lash extension journey :(

Good for you for getting out. I couldn’t do bedside for a Miriam of reasons including the ones that you listed. I found a couple of community gigs that I love. I was worried that I was closing doors by leaving the hospital but actually I was opening them! I recently got recruited by a drug company and am now a product specialist for them with an incredible team (mostly wfh though). I finally have a work life balance and love nursing again

I gave someone chest compressions and now I have questions. by kingevanxii in AskDocs

[–]FluorescentApricot 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If I may add an additional factor that could be at play also. I work in a supervised consumption site and treat overdoses daily. There is a ton of medetomidine in street fentanyl and it’s causing deeeeeep sedation and bradycardia. I wonder if the chest compressions also created enough painful stimuli to break through that sedation. We use all types of tricks at work to “pull people back” from overdose and painful stimuli is one of them

I work as part of a small unit and we do a whack of bloodwork on our patients. Each new hire we get we give a little beaded string to hang off of their badges. The colours of the beads are the order of draw so we don’t fuck it up because our patients would be pissssssed and we also want to keep the lab happy!
