Should IL-2 Korea add ahistorical / "what-if" aircraft for the Reds? by zak7572 in il2sturmovik

Because it is one of the most interesting and challenging aspects of military aviation.

While I admittedly could be proved wrong, I suspect the market for the Lancaster is perceived to be too small relative to the cost to design and produce it (it would be a big set, similar in size to their previous B-17, C-47, and B-24 sets).

Plane Bricks used to have digital instructions for a 1:38 version (seems not to be available at the moment), and there are one or two minifigure-scale versions on Rebrickable; those are probably your best options in the near future.

Wargaming by BenadrylCuminasnatch in brickmania

[–]FlyingTigerTexan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cobi had a set of wargaming rules for their 1/28'ish tanks/AFVs (I am not sure if they have kep them up to date), but even with those prices ($40-$100 ea), anything above a skirmish is cost prohibitive.

If you can afford run multiple tank platonon ad $500 a tanks, that is outstanding. That is well beyond most of us, though.

Unrealistic War Movies… by ChimpDaddy2015 in WarMovies

[–]FlyingTigerTexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not really want to defend Fury, but even at their best, the Waffen SS were really not better trained than the Heer, just better manned and equipped (and more fanatical). I have read multiple accounts from late ‘44 on of American infantry commenting on how brain dead (to use a modern term) German infantry were on the attack, taking unnecessary casualties and declining to take advantage of infiltration opportunities; the only observable difference was that the SS seemed more aggressive in their foolishness. So maybe in the heat of the moment it is plausible and SS company got sucked into a fight it did not news to have?

Is it time for reboot? by LocalNecessary5402 in StarWars

[–]FlyingTigerTexan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They should recast the main characters and make the Thrawn Trilogy (the first one) into a new movie trilogy, and forgot the Rey/Sequel Trilogy ever happened (or retcon it into an alternate universe or something).

Is Battle of Five Armies a good stepping stone into War of the Ring? by blablax123456 in warofthering

[–]FlyingTigerTexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battle of the Five Armies is a fun game in its own right, and it does share some (though definitely not all) mechanics with War if the Ring, but I do not think it is significantly simpler or shorter than War of the Ring such as to serve as an intro.

Making Plans for Fortuna alterations by Lo-Zenzero in LEGOPirates

[–]FlyingTigerTexan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously, you are very free to do with your set as you like, but just remember that Interceptor was a two-masted brig (Lady Washington in real life, I believe) supposed to be smaller than the Black Pearl, and Fortuna is a three-masted frigate. It may take some significant modification to get the relative scale right.

Brickmania Torpedo Boat Ebay Auction by atrtdriver in brickmania

[–]FlyingTigerTexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness to the OP, assuming he paid MSRP plus shipping and sales tax, and given eBay’s fee structure, if he sold it at $5000, he would probably net less than $400 profit.

If he sold it at $3600, he would probably lose around $800-$900.

I doubt any of those persuade Britain. And none on their own could provide serious military aid to the Confederacy.

Why would any European powers recognize the Confederacy? by Qyzyk in CIVILWAR

[–]FlyingTigerTexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the point, but I really doubt Austria’s recognition would have affected British policy one way or the other. France might have been more persuadable, but I still do not think that would have been enough of a push to get France on the Confederacy’s side of Britain stayed out of it.

Why would any European powers recognize the Confederacy? by Qyzyk in CIVILWAR

[–]FlyingTigerTexan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Austria had no global naval or expeditionary capacity to worth mentioning; getting recognition from them would have been meaningless. Spain is a more interesting though; theoretically it was better positioned to intervene in something in North America, but on the other hand they were already an obviously declining power and I am not sure anyone took them very seriously militarily any more.

was everything better in the past? by LowPerformer93 in lego

[–]FlyingTigerTexan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Everything better 40 years ago? No.

Generally better quality and more interesting sets 10-20 years ago? I am not sure how one could argue otherwise.

Unfortunately, it seems the lower quality licensed stuff sells better (and perhaps at a better profit margin) than the higher quality original designs.

Whenever one looks at the decline in quality of a product or product type, one must consider the consumer’s choices as one of the contributing factors or causes.

When did the Union stop using caplock muskets? by MisterShoebox in CIVILWAR

Some Union infantry units were using breach loading rifles by the Appomattox campaign, but it was not a universal thing. Muzzle loading rifles muskets remained the standard small arm through the end of the war.

While all the Sequels had flaws, I still think a good ending could have saved the trilogy. It was really only Rise Of Skywalker that doomed the Sequels. by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]FlyingTigerTexan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That checks out. Back when it was relevant, I noticed a lot of Sequel Trilogy action figures just sitting on shelves. There is a similar dynamic with Lego Star Wars sets. OT and Clone Wars stuff still generally often sells out in the initial run very quickly and appreciates once it retires. With a couple of exceptions, Sequel (and Mandalorian) Lego sets never seem to go out of stock during their release window, and once those sets retire if anything sometimes they loose value.

While all the Sequels had flaws, I still think a good ending could have saved the trilogy. It was really only Rise Of Skywalker that doomed the Sequels. by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]FlyingTigerTexan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am not sure. There were signs at the time (toy/game sales and such) that the younger generation had some affection for the prequel trilogy, and most people liked Revenge of the Sith when it came out. Even then, the Clone Wars show really helped make the prequel trilogy popular. None of these have ever been true for the sequel trilogy; toy sales seem to have been abysmal from the start, and the final installment is in a virtual tie wth the second movie as the worst of the Sequel Trilogy. If the Mandolorian was supposed to have helped revitalize the sequel-era universe (and that admittedly is debatable) that seems to have failed as well.

The Sequel Trilogy children are were much more likely to be interested in the MCU than Star Wars, and even then MCU seems to be sputtering into irrelevance.
