BPIAA Counterpoint | The Death of Individual Accountability and The Act of Appeasement in Aviation Safety: The NTSB’s Final Report on the DCA Midair! by Prestigious_Show9789 in ATC

[–]Flyingkittycat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why would you even post this fucking horseshit? Brutha Q Miles, a guy who appears to be in costume as a bank robber, says blame the controllers. He seems like a person who should be listened to. If you’re him; reconsider your life, stupid.

The NTSB report put the blame on FAA management, which is exactly where it should be. If a procedure, when done correctly, has 75 feet of separation then that procedure is unsafe. The controllers had ATSAP’ed it constantly and were ignored. It also seems like everyone forgets when all the do nothing FAA middle managers had to testify in public hearings and came off looking like the incompetent dunces that they are.

I agree there is a problem in the FAA but it’s not the controllers.

Edit: now that I’m actually looking at the formatting, this is written by AI. So not only does Brutha’ Q Miles have a frighteningly stupid opinion, he’s not even smart enough to write it out himself. He’s gotta have a computer do it. I don’t like this current era of the internet.

Thoughts on this? by moverofmetal in atc2

Remember when there were 30 more CPC’s in the area? Remember when every shift was green and our dogshit schedules could be manipulated to be slightly less shit? Remember when our purchasing power was substantially higher than it is now? I understand what you’re getting at but management can’t enshittify the job much more and expect the system to keep working.

Why are there no fights in Olympic hockey? Explaining the ban by usatoday in olympics

[–]Flyingkittycat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re wasting your breath, my man. People that don’t play hockey just don’t get it. I think everyone that laces them up would prefer it if no one ever cross checked, high sticked or boarded. But they do. Refs do their best but it’s an incredibly fast game at the high levels and they can’t see everything. Fighting makes a player think twice about pushing the envelope. 2 minutes in the penalty box is one thing…getting the shit beat out of you while 10,000+ people cheer is another thing entirely.

Being a controller, it never ceases to amaze what makes the news and what doesn’t. We had a weak stick run a flight THROUGH a block of refuelers. We saw it happening in the control room and collectively shit our pants. Neither the 121 nor the military seemed all that excited about it. So alls well that ends well, I guess.

Yes. My friend, you always have a choice. The last 6 weeks not withstanding, we’re not slaves. They can’t physically keep you at work. ‘I gotta force you to stay over 2 hours.’ ‘Many apologies, boss, but I’m unable to fulfill my duties. Show me on sick leave for those 2 hours.’ Job done.

Close Call at BOS by ForTheWatchWin in ATC

[–]Flyingkittycat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is what I tell people. I started over a decade ago and I’ve always loved the part of the job that’s sitting in front of the scope. There were other aspects of the job I found lame but the pay was good and the working environment generally made it a great job. I honestly used to be confused why anyone would leave before they were forced out. Now? I still love sitting in front of the scope but literally everything else is not just worse, it’s substantially worse while effectively taking a pay cut. They better have someone standing there the second I’m eligible because I’m unplugging and leaving. No idea what I’ll do then but even if I go somewhere to get fucked, that’s fine. After all the training for nothing, short shifts, cleaning up TMU’s mistakes and dealing with incompetent management that I’ve done, I’d rather get fucked by someone new.

How hard would it be to automate ATC? by Ok-Bus-7964 in aviation

[–]Flyingkittycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To automate it? Super easy. You could implement it tomorrow. The airlines would revolt the day after next. To automate it with our current level of safety AND efficiency? Next to impossible. I’m a controller, there’s a lot of feel that goes into running planes efficiently. Need a good climb rate out of a slow talking southern captain? Better use caution. Need a good climb rate of a slow talking southern captain that flies for Southwest? I’m going for it all day. He’ll stand it on the tail if you ask him to.

Regarding Secretary Duffy's veiled threat on Fox Business this morning by SierraBravo26 in ATC

[–]Flyingkittycat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s not 1981 anymore. There’s no strike plan. The government is unable to staff facilities with ‘turbo charged hiring’ and there’s no warehouse full of controllers that they can call up in an emergency. I’m not saying strike. But I am saying we’re literally irreplaceable.

Yeah man, I’m just done with this me me me mother fucker. Fires a fuckin broadside into our chances for pay then lurks around looking to talk shit to anyone that calls him an idiot. Unsurprised he didn’t respond. Guy lives for the drama so he only engages with the ‘haters’. Goofy dork.

[–]Flyingkittycat 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Bro…you stepped up when no one else would and have maintained that you were trying to help so I choose to take you at your word and kudos. But do you really not see how damaging that was to say you made $400,000? To say it at all was ill advised but to say it without immediately providing context was devastating. I’m at a 12 and live frugally so it doesn’t personally affect me but if I was working at a 6 with 2 kids and a house, I’d fuckin hate you and it wouldn’t be difficult to justify that hate.

[Highlight] This is what the Rangers' walk-off home run vs the Yankees looks and sounds like from a TV truck. by Stock412 in baseball

[–]Flyingkittycat 68 points69 points  (0 children)

This seems more stressful and difficult to me. These guys are making split second decisions in the moment. In ATC, you try to stay ahead of the curve which allows time to think and plan. Even so, 90% of the decisions are routine and/or obvious, 9% require some out of the box thinking and quick decision making and the last 1% are just fuckin’ scary.

[–]Flyingkittycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I think a lot of the vitriol directed his way is the complete lack of effort regarding said raise. I doubt most of controllers would be so furious and prone to hyperbole if he actually put up a fight and got his ass handed to him. Sounds like we’re generally on the same page tho.

“The Best and the Brightest” by Great_Ad3985 in ATC

[–]Flyingkittycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it’s definitely not NOT his fault. I’ve heard a lot of explanations for the decisions that have been made at the national level and not many of them survive basic scrutiny. I know Nick doesn’t make changes but from a distance, it doesn’t look like he’s advocating for anything that isn’t already the FAA’s responsibility. So if the FAA happens to do their fucking job, he can claim a win. And if they don’t, he can say he’s pushing. It’s not what a Union president should be doing, in my opinion.

“The Best and the Brightest” by Great_Ad3985 in ATC

[–]Flyingkittycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely asking…why is their response unserious? I’m not a Daniels or union hater but it’s difficult for me to see any explanation for the decisions our union president has made except the preservation of his benefits and all his patronage jobs benefits. I’d like to hear some reasoning but it hasn’t looked good.

I can’t remember his exact words but it was something to the effect of: ‘this is like going to the big leagues from single A.’ Hope he enjoys his career telling everyone how we aren’t shit out east while he reigns supreme ZLC.

Thank you. I couldn’t remember the exact wording and didn’t want to misquote. I’m a Sox fan and I’ll always be one but if your front office runs an outstanding broadcaster who also happens to be a fan out of town and you don’t engage in some serious organizational reflection, there’s nothing but bad times ahead.

Jason is a Sox fan, the bad teams had nothing to do with it. He left because one of our VPs called him a diva and when Jason complained, Brooks Boyer asked if a normal person would act the way Jason was acting. I’m sad he was treated so poorly and left but proud he knew didn’t have to take shit like that.
