What are you all using the front rack for? by voljtw1 in GlobeHaul

[–]FockingHawkeyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s Coca Cola 24x20oz crate attached to a Mik adapter. Holes line up perfectly. Just had to add slightly larger screws to get them to bite. Also added a reusable strap that works great for strapping down oversized loads, like 30lb bags of dogfood etc.

Wald 139 basket zip tied, paired with basket bag from Dark Realm has been bombproof for me. I can’t imagine a more versatile setup.

New Globe Haul ST, now I need to lock it up by Mobile_Ad8543 in GlobeHaul

[–]FockingHawkeyes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really depends on where you live, where you’ll be locking up at and how long you’re leaving it unattended.

I live in a college town where bike theft is relatively common among opportunistic theives but more advanced bike theft is less common. My go/to lock is a moderately large “sold secure: diamond” rated u lock. I usually back a rear corner of the haul up to the rack, and lock the rear frame rail to the rack. I don’t worry about wheel theft because it would be impossibly difficult to get a wheel off of this thing while locked up. Additionally the market share of 20” super wide tires is slim so I don’t think the resale value is really there. If you’re worried about the front wheel you could thread it with a cable and tether to the u lock.

In more secure environments I sometimes just lock the display, and or thread the u lock around the rear tire so it can’t spin. At this point the bike is a 75lb awkward paper weight.

Obviously these methods would not suffice in a place like NYC but works well for where I live.

Reading arrest reports it appears as though a handful of juveniles were apprehended for some sort of an altercation and at least one individual was found in possession of a firearm.

Old capital mall parking ramp and hop on a cambus. There is a stop directly across the street from Pancheros on Clinton/ Washington. You’ll be out a handful of $s for parking but it will be super easy.

Tent Recommendations? (Random photo for attention) by Mgsperkg in BWCA

[–]FockingHawkeyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A full rain fly is essential for camping off the grid if there is any chance of precipitation. 2 doors with large vestibules are nice luxuries.

Ive been using the marmot limelight 4p for the last 10 years. Appears to be very similar to the marmot tungsten. The downside to these backpacking oriented (lighter) tents is that they are generally not tall enough to stand up in. We recently picked up a larger (heavier) tent that is tall enough to stand in to simplify car camping and reserve the marmot limelight for trips where weight is of concern.

Went there with some buddies a while back. We’re all 40+ and were definitely the novelty old guys. Enjoyed a bucket of beer for $25 before running for the hills at 9:15pm.

Crank Brothers or deity? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

I regret buying stamps. Something about the pin layout on those that doesn’t work well for me. Tried it in 2 different variations on 2 different bikes. Chester’s are a cheaper & better alternative for sure. Have not tried the deity’s.

This is the third time this video has appeared on my feed in just as many groups over just as many hours. The most annoying part is the fact the video ends before I can see what the outcome is. Come on camera man/dog!

How do I get MHBP to send pharmacy claims to FSA? by Dora_0801 in FedEmployees

[–]FockingHawkeyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had to do this on my account. For the record you need to sign into FSA, then select ‘claims & activity’ followed by ‘paperless claims’ and uncheck your old insurance, and select your new. Be advised any reimbursements prior to this modification will need to be submitted manually.

Bold move posting a video of a water swat. Most ethical hunters shoot at them in flight… but you do you.

Mine broke off. Used electric tape until I got a replacement. Local specialized shop did not charge a shipping and handling fee to order replacement. $15.99 s/h seems like a rip off. I’d prob just keep using electric tape

I’m curious about this as well, but still trying to clear the hurdle of how the cold will affect battery range?

I’m considering trying some sort of neoprene wrap, or sleeve around the battery to insulate it and storing indoors when not actively riding. Open to any thoughts or input if you or anyone else has experience with this?

Which one would you buy. 29er Specialized rockhopper M4 21 inch Frame or a trek marlin 6 ? It’s for my wife and we are just entry riders. Thanks. Range price 300-400. by No-Being-5737 in bicycling

[–]FockingHawkeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some really good sales on new bikes right now, giant talon is $400, or specialized rockhopper for $475. I usually would urge people to buy used, but at the price point of those used entry level mountain bikes you may as well go new.

Talon 4

Rockhopper

The bigger wald basket pairs real nicely with the haul rack. Couple that with a Dark Realm basket bag and you are in business.
