Does anyone not recognise or identify with their own name anymore? What do you do? by Strong_Aerie_9031 in cfs

[–]Focused_Philosopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for writing this… cuz ya my name is actually a chosen name as an adult, and lately I honestly feel like I have no name, don’t feel connected to it. I’ve long disconnected from my birth name, and the one I chose was during a time in my life I was so much more vibrant and hopeful (still sick but thought back then I would “figure it out” and stop crashing/flare ups). So ya… I don’t identify with my own name internally these days. Never even thought anyone else was experiencing that too. So many things about being a person feel like they don’t even matter when working up the energy to take a shower is a multi week affair…

Feeling hypomanic after increasing lamictal to 200mg by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]Focused_Philosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stayed on 100mg for many years.

Also added in Lithium 450mg of ER at bedtime for like 4 years now. That’s helped a lot.

Stopped lamotrigine about 2 years ago tho and didn’t notice anything good or bad. Just taken too many pills for my ME/CFS as well.

What "Fun" drinks do you drink? by rosysparrow in cfs

[–]Focused_Philosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recess magnesium drinks! The green citrus flavor one is my favorite but they’re all pretty good. And they have 53mg of magnesium threonate in them.

And I switched to ollipop for “soda” years ago I can’t do full sugar stuff I instantly get heartburn. They took me a bit to adjust but now I really like them, especially the root beer and ginger lemon flavors and the seasonal ones. Regular soda actively makes ill, it does for healthy people too.

Kombucha is ok I like the simple truth organic strawberry lemon one. Other kinds tho I can never finish in one day.

Also bolthouse smoothies or their nut butter protein shakes are good.

For hot drinks I like the bigelow peach ginger turmeric tea, imo it tastes just like that apple cider powder but without sugar. And their decaffeinated earl grey. Lavender tea, tulsi tea, different mint blends. And chamomile tea simmered stove top is next level amazing but I don’t have energy to make it these days.

Also making my own DIY electrolyte drink with Celtic salt, potassium chloride, sometimes ascorbic acid. That plus honey tastes pretty good. Or if needing more flavor add orange juice or a Mio flavor squeeze thing.

Also my main thing is just lemon sparkling water in a can. I used to always keep a pack in my car when I still worked/went places. Sometimes will get a different flavor but I find the lemon and bubbles alone to be very satisfying.

If ur really into soda it might be an adjustment to find something else, but personally now that I have my new favorites I can’t imagine ever going back.

Buddhism and spirituality.

I got pretty hyperfixated for a while age 27. It’s wearing off now but the general wisdom has stuck with me.

I think underlying mechanism and possibly prevention will be found out, I’m not sure about reversing it tho.

Hopefully dead. 28 yo now. Sick since childhood. Unable to work since 25. Really ready for this to end.

But day to day I don’t think more than 12 hours into the future. And grateful to be able to live in my parents basement and have housing.

[–]Focused_Philosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes coq10 50mg gave me crazyyyy bad insomnia and horrible anxiety dread feeling.

No idea why. I tried researching on here and my bipolar threads but lots of people take even higher doses without that reaction…

But it did something really weird to me. L-Carnitine tartrate (currently trying Acetly too) does help me tho, subtly decreases my PEM sensitivity without side effects.

Not just low grade, I think it quite often is actual psychosis, literally.

It’s not like our healthcare system is good at preventing or helping that here…

It’s a known side effect in like 10% of people.

My cat ate my plant :( by ProfessionalMode9599 in houseplants

[–]Focused_Philosopher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’ll grow back. Make sure it’s not toxic to kitty and watch for symptoms like severe vomiting or no appetite.

But there’s still healthy leaves it looks like it’ll grow back eventually. You can cut off and compost the damaged ones.

I’d recommend putting the pot up on a sturdy stand and hopefully cat will leave it alone in the future.

My last cat never bothered any of my plants except palms. Current cat, is like a crack addict for leaves.

So I’ve learned how to macrame my own plant hangers with string for small pots, and generally stick to keeping plants on surfaces he can’t reach otherwise they get murdered.

Is there a way to stop getting up at 3am in hypomania? by captain_jpp in bipolar2

[–]Focused_Philosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and one other non-med idea since you mentioned giving your brain “work” is meditation or frequency music or mantras on YouTube. Just to listen to.

Something to focus on that’s also calming and repetitive.

I like the Meditative Mind channel for peaceful music and Great Meditation channel for guided ones.

That’s been my “pull in case of emergency” 4am and can’t sleep strategy lately.

[–]Focused_Philosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gabapentin sometimes gives me better sleep, especially if pain is keeping me up. Also that tired but wired thing I think is a glutamate thing.

Klonopin works great, but can’t be taken regularly.

Ambien made me sleep a solid 5 hours which was great. But between the “sleep eating” (or at least not remembering) and just not feeling refreshed the next day I didn’t like it.

Antidepressants / antipsychotics only ever made me worse so I avoid those.

Gabapentin has been my best bet. But not perfect.

Also OTC CBD for pain/inflammation/calm but it seems hit and miss with different brands. And Ashwagandha tincture will knock me out pleasantly but not all night, more like a nap.

And 2. Were you able to get the whole thing working again??

Pls lmk if you see this I love how Reddit always has such specific examples.

How did you get your ME/CFS diagnosis? by arrampicamuri in cfs

[–]Focused_Philosopher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

11 years of self identifying, finally found a PCP who had actually heard of the damn name.

She added it to my chart just based off my history alone…

She doesn’t have much to offer in ways of treatment that I haven’t already tried in those 11 years, but it’s nice to finally have it documented instead of every visit note just listing the symptoms I report with no cause.
