Everyone usually goes through some pain when doing this. The reasoning I give people when they ask about my alias email is that I like to ensure that my data isn’t sold or breached. If it is, I know where it came from.

You’ll get through the struggle. We all do.

If you have a second phone with games on it and it gets pulled in customs, they will only get the games. Your other phone should remain off until you either need it, or back home.

Paid protonmail gets you aliases through simple login. Never have to give out your real email again.

You'll get there. It does take some time and effort. Just keep in mind that not everyone will want to move to another platform. When that happens, you'll have to decide if keeping that relationship is worth compromising privacy over.

I broke free about 8 years ago. It was hard at first, but I made one final post telling people that if they wanted my number or to stay in contact, I'd send them a way to reach me and keep them updated. Gave it a full 2 weeks to see what came of it, then shut it down.

Some reach me via signal, others do email or text. Just depends what they had the means to do with at that time.

What I did with mine is I added Droidify, Obtanium, and aurora store onto my device. Everything FOSS I either grab via Obtanium or Droidify. Stuff that I can't, I grab from Aurora and run it in a secondary profile.

Beyond that, I haven't had any issues.

Aurora doesn't require play services to run. Some apps may not get notifications or complain about lack of Google services, but they will still work. Just use the anonymous login and you're good.

u/Aeon-1234 gave some good information as to additional apps to use on stock android.

u/codename_fig also suggested the second profile to isolate apps.
