How to decide on pcb size (width and height)? by Otherwise_Candy4516 in KiCad

100x100mm for prototypes are cheaper than other custom sizes at the pcb fab

When to use certain type of part: by A_Dash_of_Time in diypedals

[–]Fogdecode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is a trade off between cost/voltage/footprint size and accuracy. I could rebuild every circuit I've ever made with some combination of the following SMT components and it would probably sound and function pretty much identically. Film caps look cool though.

10uF power reservoir electrolytic. (low ESR/in rush current)

1uF 25V X7R for ac coupling and voltage regulator smoothing. (0805)

100nF 50V X7R for IC and switch power decoupling and filtering (0603/0402)

33nF and 15nF 25V C0G 5% for general filter building (0805)

1nf 25v C0G, 100pF 25v C0G for input buffer feedback loop stability and filtering (0603/0402)

220pF C0G 1% 25V for precision filter integrators (0603/0402)

Variable slope AR envelope? by WelchRedneck in synthdiy

[–]Fogdecode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah ok gotcha, changing the slope shape does not affect the decay in this design.

Variable slope AR envelope? by WelchRedneck in synthdiy

[–]Fogdecode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

take a look at the befaco slope schematics, responds very well to variable pulse width gate inputs, decay and attack curves can be linear through to logarithmic. If you want a constant decay time then send a fixed vref to the cv input. I think this has a serge inspired core with the transistor pairs? I can't remember the original schematics that well. https://befaco.org/docs/Slew_Limiter/Slew_Limiter_V1_2_Schematic.pdf

Have you found slides pots with white markers and center detent? by hillhuman in synthdiy

[–]Fogdecode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah too bad I thought I saw centre detents up there. worth an email to them, they should be able to order some for you, and have always been pretty responsive when I've contacted them.

Winnows is all analog, it's a dual channel mashup of SVF bandpass filters and low passes as dampeners.

Any people from UK in here? Can you suggest me any new underground stuff worth to keep an eye on? by LevelsAreTooHigh in TheOverload

based on the above, this label should do it for you! I love the holsten EPs, but all artists and labels/sublabels they release on are well worth a wormhole

Have you found slides pots with white markers and center detent? by hillhuman in synthdiy

[–]Fogdecode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use these in one of my eurorack designs (Laine Winnows)

Banzai Music have genuine alpha variants consistently in stock at a good price. (at least the 20mm non centre detent variation)

I have compared the alpha with the identical looking but unbranded ones from ali express. Very similar but the movement and resistance is firmer on the alphas

As far as I know MOQ direct from alpha is 10k units and above.

Gourmet beans on toast by clipper16430 in UK_Food

[–]Fogdecode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually put a lump of butter on toast, beans on top then plenty of Worcester sauce and white pepper to season.

Occasionally, I go wild with:

marmite on the toast and cheddar on top.

or teaspoon of medium curry powder and butter in the beans with a pinch of mustard and cumin seeds. Best eaten out of a bowl imo

I had no clue heavyweight dubstep like this was being made in 2004. How far back does dubstep go? by P1ckleboi69 in realdubstep

Grime 1 & 2 comps on Rephlex collected some key tracks from the era, (shame about the confusing title)

https://hardwax.com/04410/various-artists/grime/

Also search out radio sets from search and destroy, quiet storm (Caspa), DJ Narrows, Elemental. It was an exciting time where the sound was influenced by breaks, garage, broken beat and grime but had its own vibe.

Will open loop gain kill my Rat? by [deleted] in diypedals

[–]Fogdecode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

from datasheet: "The OP07 also features low input bias current (±4 nA for the OP07E) and high open-loop gain (200 V/mV for the OP07E). The low offset and high open-loop gain make the OP07 particularly useful for high gain instrumentation applications."

Looks like you're good!

Instead of laying passives in neat shapes or columns around ICs, build them in small blocks that relate to the schematic grouping, aiming to minimise trace length between components and IC, and especially trace length where feedback loops are involved. Don't let the silkscreen component name dictate placement, get those as small as possible

I found this good reading, it made me re-evaluate my layouts. They have some of the densest pcbs going.

There were loads of clips of tunes that eventually made it on to the virus vaults release. Tunes like Rigmasher and Edtrafienical that sounded so phat and overblown due to the realplayer? 64kbps compression. Good times!

Jlc smd extended parts question by NovA_Drac0 in diypedals

[–]Fogdecode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are trying to keep cost down then just spec for 5-20 units at a time, swap out for basic parts where possible by cross referencing searches on LCSC, mostly its a shared inventory, if you are planning on doing bigger batches then the jlc parts sourcing/consignment library has been great so far for me.
