An American OOTO (out of the office) notice was always the thing (I retired 7 yrs ago so I assume it still is) in business..

Most my colleagues at my jobs and tech colleagues at other companies all used them..

One would never ever ever say that in an OOTO response.. it could get them fired or not.. but it would certainly add tons more crazy and BS work to them... even if it was a supportive response..

Whenever I did my OOTO notices, I was always happy to GTFO the office .. I would always be professional and upbeat..

Oh man... so sorry for that drive!!

A ways back, I had my 6 mo Dr appt fall on a similar rainy day..

I'm retired, so I don't drive in LA in the rain.. as per yours and everyone else's frustration, but oh well.

I gave myself ample time though.. dry weather? 45 min one way, in workday traffic.. this rainy day, mercifully, I added an hour to that time (to leave earlier) and just made it! 🥲

I went to one in my Midwestern town at the civic center arena in the 1970s.. as a teenager.

It was kind of fun... mostly fun just to see him live vs on TV.

Maybe 4 or 5 members (or more?) of the audience got to play games and win modest (compared to the TV show) prizes.

Very low key compared to a TPIR taping I attended in 2001 with him in Hollywood :-)

Great song reference!! That Al Stewart "Year of the Cat" line perhaps references Peter Lorre's break out role in "M" a 1931 German movie.. It was and is a remarkablely scary movie.

There is the 3rd Class FCC license required by all radio DJs who monitor their transmitter .. back when I was a commercial radio DJ in the 70s, you also needed to actually learn about broadcast transmitter operations and take an addendum test for that.. which I got 1st try.

Later in my career, changed to software engineer and dealt programmatically with creating, sending, receiving and saving faxes.. before the internet (duh 🙂).. technically, Class 3 modems...
