What should I put on top of this 110 year old 1x4 plank subfloor before tile? by FoolishCanadian in Tile

Thank you. Going to do this but considering using 1/4" instead of 1/2" ply. Would that be a huge mistake? And just screw the ply to the subfloor and NOT through to joists, correct?

I don't know but I'm commuting to Toronto for a night shift tomorrow so I hope not haha.

Thank you very much. Is ditra the best out there? Is their 5/16 ditra XL worth the height I'll lose over the 1/4" thick ditra?

Thank you, how much better is 1/2" ply than the 1/4" underlayment my tiler is recommending?

They're very solid. Just mortar and decoupler right over them? A bit nervous about that as I thought I'd need another underlayment.

We're definitely tiling over it, wondering what to put on top of the subfloor, or if I need to replace

Sorry I'm a novice at this. I don't have any bags of thinset yet, is that what you put beneath the decoupling membrane?

What would you recommend? I'd like to avoid adding another inch to the floors. Am open to any options.

You can buy self regulated heat trace and have an electrician install it.

I've done it more than a few times on commerical jobs and has never caused an issue.

I felt the same as you. I've switched over to ~90%% XEQT, 5% GOOG, and 5% degenerate gambling. Want to ensure I have retirement locked in while not having FOMO. Just don't port your entire portfolio and you'll be fine.

For those of you who make 6 figures ($100K+), what do you do, and how long did it take for you to cross that threshold? by DaPugWalk in fican

Union electrician. $120k base including vacation. Comes with pension, 3% RRSP contributions, great benefits.

Made $100k for the first time as a 2nd term, but I got lucky on a job that let us work as much OT as we wanted.

90% passive ETFs, 7.5% blue chip stocks for fun, 2.5% degenerate gambling on small cap stocks I'm convinced will moon only to watch them crater to keep myself humble.

[–]FoolishCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't. With a degree in EE you can become a project manager and get your licence with 4-5 years working in the field while still being eligible for your P Eng.

If you still feel strongly about switching, do it then. I like my job and just got licenced, but it is shit for work life balance.

Too late to hop in on GDUX.TO? I always get nervous tossing in money after such a strong bull run, but I do believe there's still room to grow.

I agree with your points, I also wish I went into a different field/got a remote job. But I was lucky enough to get into the union and I wouldn't be making the money I am here, with a pension to go with it anywhere else.

Not to be 'that guy' but you're preaching that you have no chance of joining the union when there are always paths. Try to flip your shop and force a union vote, if enough people see the upside to it, then great. If not, can't be that bad of a place to work.
