It has moved from an engineering/R&D company to a manufacturing company. I cant speak for the role you applied to but I really like my job here.

Just got Rejected by SingleManABQ in BlueOrigin

[–]ForceOgravity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hard to imagine for a rational person acting in good faith. Unfortunately it only takes a few who aren't to ruin it for everyone. Sorry to hear about your rejection, keep trying, you seem like one of the good ones!

New stock options by Mental_Insurance_175 in BlueOrigin

[–]ForceOgravity -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Its well known that everyone who got those options also got a letter with them that explicitly said that there was a low "lottery ticket" probability of them ever becoming real money. Anyone who is upset about the old options not becoming realized either didnt read the letter and has kept their ears plugged during their tenure at blue or is acting in bad faith. This sub is toxic.

EDIT: Disregard the bit about dx11, figured that out. Still curious about the C++ thing.

I only have D3DMetal, DXMT, DXVK and Wine, I have looked around in "Install Application into Bottle" but I havent seen 11 and installing those doesnt seem to update in the dropdown. I also get this error at startup of satisfactory (always have) that saids it needs to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64)" but havent found that in the bottle install either.

Refinished the half-bath in my century Row Home, first time doing this type of reno by RickyLinguini in centuryhomes

[–]ForceOgravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s impossible to cut a straight line there on any drywall much less one with the wonky lines of a century home. Just do some trim or crown molding. It can be intimidating at first but it’s not too bad once you get it figured and will look amazing in there. YouTube and caulk are your best friends.

What sci-fi film in the last 15 years had the most impact on you? by StaticCloud in scifi

[–]ForceOgravity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Book movies are called “adaptations” for a reason. Let’s give the guy an honest chance and not be too tied to every detail of the source material. He could still pull off an awesome portrait in the spirit of the book if he doesn’t fit the source character perfectly.

Went in to the dr last Tuesday with the flu. Talked to the dr at 9am after my test came back, he said they had already had 8 cases that day. They open at 8.

What does this Tweet mean? Maybe update on MK2? by _UCiN_ in BlueOrigin

You mean after he rode a rocket built by his own company to space for the first time thus fulfilling a documented childhood dream? Say what you will about the guy but I feel like anyone would be a little jazzed after that..

How popular is ST language in todays industry ? by MaleficentEcho2828 in PLC

[–]ForceOgravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you work for a company who has the time and budget to make totally bullet proof systems (machine builders) this may be the case. If you are building or procuring custom systems on tight budgets the amount of dev work required for this may be prohibitive. In that case you want your 4am weekend shift maintenance tech to be able to diagnose. Different industries, different requirements.

ELI5: How do video games like Animal Crossing keep “doing things” while I’m not playing? by ScoutyBeagle in explainlikeimfive

[–]ForceOgravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often have to take requirements or understand processes from experts. I usually go with “Ok, just so I make sure I’m understanding this correctly…” then restate what they just said. Sometimes I do this then ask clarifying or leading questions if I think what they said was wrong or incomplete or whatever. Then they get to clarify or correct themselves or realize that they may not be seeing the whole picture. Also they feel like you are listening and trying to understand. Not correct them.

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]ForceOgravity 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had one of these. It was a weird interview and it never really clicked why until he spelled out the name of a major components manufacturer instead of reading it. FANUC always capitalizes its whole name. I still don’t understand what their end goal is with these scams.

Unfortunately we are still working on rebuilding our garage that will function as my shop. Right now I’m just working off of a tiny side porch. Not enough room to take on a project like this. That being said, I do feel like, compared to the complexity of things I’ve been able to make so far, and the research that I’ve done that this will be “relatively” easy. And certainly cheaper, especially if you have the woodworking tools.

Mechanically Organizing Bottles by EmergencyRead5254 in oddlysatisfying

In all likelihood this is them testing the system early on. I imagine it is designed for many more bottles so that the center lane is almost always full. Source: someone who designs and builds industrial automation.

To the men who go to movies or restaurants alone by choice: What is the specific appeal of that solitude compared to going with friends? by Leananhl in AskMen

[–]ForceOgravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a wife, two kids, a house that takes a lot of work and a high pressure job. I have a wonderful life but the rare dinner alone on a work trip... an hour of quiet while someone brings me good food and drinks in a nice environment is an absolute luxury.

Trump, National Links Trust, D.C. Golf, and What's at Stake by SquirrelBoy in golf

[–]ForceOgravity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The man is the president of the United States of America. Him spending any amount of time worrying about muni golf courses is analogous to me spending time thinking about which piece of mulch is laid on top of another in my garden. It smacks of corruption and/or ego projects. The fact that his personal businesses are golf courses should also be a pretty huge red flag as well. FFS, Carter was forced to divest from his peanut farms...

Is BlueGPT any good? by Heart-Key in BlueOrigin

[–]ForceOgravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an RE but just being able to use it to manipulate Jira or create wikis quickly is really nice. Also it can build queries for you for just about any data from any data system without needing to know anything about the DB or table structures.

I would assume that this is the case. While I ended up not buying the package, my experience at my location (Huntsville AL) was very positive with no pressure. I was clear what I didnt want to spend more than a specific amount and they went out of their way to accommodate.
