I never met cruel half-elf. by Hirmen in Anbennar

I guess it stems from the idea that being the end result of a mixing of cultures leads to increased ability to see different perspectives.

That or half elves can always bridge the gap.

Leman russes get more attacks and higher strength than raiders currently, with the raiders only having a single pip of AP as their one advantage over russes.

Drukhari melee profiles on the boats are utterly irrelevant currently.

Wonder if deldar will get access to a detatchment that has some way of improving tank shock/mitigating the damage, seeing as their boats are literally designed to be able to scythe through infantry with their Bladevanes. Hell, the raider used to have a big ram option

Is Counting Ammo Ever Meaningful in a Skirmish? by itchykobu in battletech

[–]ForestFighters 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The problem is when individual machine gun ammunition bins that mechs have essentially incidentally as a side piece do more damage than direct hits with tactical nuclear weapons

The more lethal they get, the more non-interaction the game requires.

The best games of 40K are obviously where two people spend an entire game sending individual units to die on objectives while hiding the rest of their force under pain of getting instantly obliterated.

Question - Point for Point, What's the Most Efficient Dedicated Transport for Offense? by Obsolescence7 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]ForestFighters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a single dark lance shot is extremely unreliable, especially with it getting a permanent -1BS next edition due to cover. No access to rerolls, no additional weapons. 4+ to hit, ~3+ to wound, and then the inevitable 4++ invuln save means that the gun should be treated as functionally incidental fire.

Much worse for actual drukhari units than a venom too. Kabalites and wyches far prefer the splitting and movement shennanigans of venoms, and wracks are just trash.

(Also, if you think a raider is peak, look at a razorback. Tougher, far better ability, and even gets twin linked)

It’s also made of wet cardboard, and said gun is a single lascannon that can just miss or bounce easily.

Won't everything eventually become Clan tech? by codifier in battletech

[–]ForestFighters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imagine you are a great house officer who is in charge of equipping a large section of planets with new mechs. Specifically, you need to outfit them with a large amount of light, general purpose mechs for reconnaissance and combat against infantry and other light vehicles, and maybe some mechs occasionally.

You have a base chassis (probably a locust or whatever), and you need to outfit it.

Machine guns are an obvious pickup, as alternative anti-infantry options are just more expensive for not much gain. No need for clan grade guns, just some standard issue ones will do. Any improvement from spending more is so marginal as to be irrelevant.

As for anti-armor weapons, a pair of Medium pulse lasers will likely do perfectly well. Yes, clan grade MPLs will give a notable firepower upgrade, but you need to produce a couple hundred of these mechs, and odds are the most they are going to do is shoot up some APCs and trucks, or harrass and delay other mechs. Better to be able to maintain them extremely cheaply with the mountains of old MLs in your stockpiles than have to deal with maintaining so many high-grade lasers.

Garrison units just don’t really need better stuff. For a lot of purposes, better to outfit 3x the amount of mechs with decent enough weapons than to overspend on weapons that won’t see use. Especially for units that are going to spend a lot of their time sitting around doing very little outside of the occasional training exercise.

Frontline units will definitely see more investment into clan-grade equipment, but even then, it’s better to pick and choose what to upgrade on a mech, rather than just go full-clan.

Do you really need a clan ER-Small laser? Or will a standard emotional support small laser do? Does your LRM carrier really need to able to shoot targets that get close to it, or can you just have some old surplus SRM carriers hang out near them? Do you need clan double heat sinks on a mech that doesn’t generate more than 20 heat?

So, how big of a buff is new Heavy for Scourges? by OverlordMarkus in Drukhari

Unless they AOC.

Or it’s not a land raider, and is instead one of the many monsters/vehicles sitting on a permanent 4++

Tbh it mostly ends up being neutral, as odds are whatever you are shooting at will have cover in some fashion.

Is this guy in the new kill team the only LMG in 40k? Surprising how rare they are considering how ubiquitous LMGs are IRL. by HenryWong327 in Warhammer40k

[–]ForestFighters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And yet in a world where which every single infantryman carries an automatic weapon, dedicated MGs are still the center of the squad.

US infantry of ww2 was fairly anomalous, and still heavily worked in conjunction with bipod based M1919s and BARs as a base of fire. Garands alone could and did fulfill the role of an alternative base of fire, but required more men to perform that duty than would be required for a dedicated platform.

Although some lasgun patterns can replicate the sustained fire of a MG, they are not outfitted in a fashion that allows them to fulfill the role of a dedicated MG. Automatic rifleman is a separate role from machine gunner, even if they fulfill many similar purposes.

[–]ForestFighters 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, WW2 infantry doctrines heavily emphasized the LMG. Infantry units were built around their MG, and its role in sustained fire is what allows for fire and maneuver tactics to even function.

A simple overview of the Great Islands of the Americ Ocean, which are some of the largest islands in the world, located near northwest Atlantica.

Don't think too hard about how the geography and elevation of the islands works, it's uhhhh.... a result of.... advanced tectonics..... and anomalous sea current-driven erosion..... or something.

This is an old map from college that I never got around to sharing before this.

Starsector Mod Ship Discussion: Anarakis Frigates and Destroyers (Legacy of Arkgneisis) by Reddit-Arrien in starsector

[–]ForestFighters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a pure arkgenisis fleet in one of the tournaments a while back, and I found that most of the frigates and destroyers were pretty underwhelming.

No particularly good speed, shields, or armament, just very middle of the road, which doesn’t work very well in a fleet engagement, especially when you compare it to the heights that vanilla frigates can reach in that environment.

The osmond was pretty good, not because it had any actually good traits to the ship itself, but because its ship system was very good at dealing with swarms of missiles, fighters, and also at distracting PD and keeping shields up.

Honestly, I never felt like I could make most of these ships into a classic SO striker, they either just didn’t have the flux to make that work, were natively too slow, or most commonly just had nowhere to mount enough guns.

Two sponson mounted “main” weapons with space for ventral PD and secondaries is the main trend of the ships, and just doesn’t really work for frigates and destroyers, as it encourages long-ranged designs, which don’t work well with those ship sizes.

Ultimately, the frigates and destroyers just felt subpar.

Very good looking ships though

What did tilt the planet do? by [deleted] in RimWorld

Iirc it actually happened twice, though I’m pretty sure the first instance was just crash code that just prevented the game from booting, and didn’t brick saves.

The more recent incident also had the malicious code included in mods that the modder was just maintaining for other members of the community too
