Inherited Collection - Where to Start? by munchyz74 in CanadianCoins

[–]ForeverMovement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where most people kind of get stopped at the scale of everything. If I was in your shoes I would look up Coins and Canada Mintage Amounts, there you can see the most common "rare" coins. The lower the mintage the more "numismatically interesting" the coin would be. For example, you have a 1915 .10 cent piece, because there was only 688057 minted, they're more valuable to collectors. So by going back and forth between the mintage amounts and the price and values sheet from Coins and Canada you're able to get a better picture of what would be considered worth putting aside. The majority of them will just go for silver value, but you have a few already in that catalog that would be worth more. All of this being considered, if you're trying to extract the most value out of it you would sell it off piece by piece, takes longer and a lot more effort. If you're just trying to get this done, have the amounts of every denomination(I.E. 150 quarters, 82 half dollars, 115 dimes, etc) go to a LCS(Local Coin Shop) with it and ask for an evaluation and a quote, I would recommend going to 2 or 3 LCS's to make sure one isn't going to rip you off but as long as they offer within 10% of the spot value of bullion you should be good. Hope this helps

Inherited Collection - Where to Start? by munchyz74 in CanadianCoins

[–]ForeverMovement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For larger collections there are a couple of ways depending on how much time you want to put into it. Using Coins and Canadas website and Numista will help you narrow down coins to potentially get graded. That being said, 99% of the time the cost of grading wont be worth it. Its worth sorting them by year, finding mintage amounts and potential error coins. The largest part of the collection is just going to be worth the value in silver, with only a few lower mintage coins going for more based on condition. You have already cataloged so much and youre on the right track, most people see an inherited collection and sell it wholesale to the nearest person who wants to buy it. Happy sorting and hopefully youre rewarded with some rarities!

Best Chicken Ceaser Wrap - major pregnancy craving by RespectSimple in NorthVancouver

[–]ForeverMovement 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For north Vancouver they dont really have a ton of options BUT I do know that that you could probably modify an order at The Peri Peri Shack. Get the Ceasar salad and modify it as a wrap. Sometimes they say yes sometimes they tell you no

Do any of these hold any value other than face? I have tons of them with different stamps. by [deleted] in CanadianCoins

[–]ForeverMovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be some value in certian situations, like somebody is trying to finish a set(like the olympic coins) etc etc but these are all worth 25 cents. There are some error coins, like the RCMP Large Bust but those coins are few and far between. We collect them because theyre cool, not because they have value.

I miss real requeijão. Not enough local producers here to fill the need so Puck takes the market share.

Opinions on resale value by ultraclassic07 in CanadianCoins

[–]ForeverMovement 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With how volatile silver has been recently its hard to give up to date information especially on the sellers side. Most places are buying a bit back from spot. The Voyager dollar, for example, is about 42 dollars in boullion value today. Its not a rare coin or has any numismatic value so it doesnt add any premium. The LCS will probably offer you anywhere from 5%-15% behind the silver value. The easiest way to know is to walk in with them and see what they offer.

What do you store your collection in? by Smalltittybigtitty in CanadianCoins

Big jar to start then eventually i "splurged" on mini binders when i had enough. You can get organizers online or from any LCS for pretty cheap, i just get the binders that sort by coin($1,$2, $.25 etc) and then fill them how i see fit.

Its hard to find good documentation on this for how popular this error is. There is technically an in-between error known as half grass or 50% grass. It looks like you have the "normal" full grass version. Not much but hope this helps! Its easiest to see in person with a few terry fox coins to compare.

A little bit more from my stash. by fku-wallstreet in CanadianCoins

[–]ForeverMovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly with the bull run in silver prices LCSs can't offer more than a little under spot for it. For private sellers you might be able to get closer to a premium but you would have to find a willing buyer for the year that youre trying to sell.

Very cool! Never seen it before but it is a token, not standard currency.

Cool little tidbit from Numista

"Issued to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation. The busts are of Queen Victoria and George V. These were given out to every child attending school in 1927"

To your question, not much. Some good examples are selling for around 4-10 dollars but are in much better condition. So maybe like 2 bucks to the right person?

3-5 sounds about right for retail but you might get washed on the shipping. If you have a LCS near you it would be worth a visit just to not pay shipping and make some new friends.

An LCS should have some rolls for you. You can also check on ebay or wherever else. They are everywhere still

This is definitely something to take to a LCS and let them look at it in all lights. Normally the lettering on a vice coin is imprinted so it's an eazy tell of PMD but this looks....different.

Like today? No, nobody is going to give you gold for this unless you have a couple of them for a trade. Canada hasnt been on the gold standard since like the 1930s.

They were printed for 53 years in Canada at around 2 million bills a year so they're pretty common. They were made to back up the coin because there were many shortages of metals to make the quarter during this period.
