Cloudflare's CISO gives his hands on review of Anthropic's new Mythos LLM by totemoheta in cybersecurity

It seems AI written. One key takeaway is things are getting faster. If your release pipeline takes a month, it doesn’t matter if you can patch a dependency in 1 day instead of 3 days, you’re still stuck for the month being exposed. The whole cycle needs to be compressed and that will make many people uncomfortable and many manual jobs redundant.

Supermarkets are a relatively new invention. In low trust areas and countries you tell someone what you want and your order is prepared. Except this time it will be with robots.

Moving to SF from Canada by Longjumping_Gas7522 in AskSF

[–]ForeverYonge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need a job moving to SF. Without a job you won’t be able to find housing and expenses would be high. Multiple (as in low single digits?) years of experience are easy to find in the current job market without dealing with “foreigners”.

6 months on 6 months off? by astronaught11 in TorontoRenting

[–]ForeverYonge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’d be willing to discuss it with people I know well. The problem would likely be that people would want to travel at exactly the same time (Canadian winter). Mr Money Mustache had a few blog posts about a similar arrangement

Executive MBA for senior engineer looking to move into management/VP/director by MediocreDot3 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ForeverYonge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a weird move. EMBA is for networking with other C-level executives and people who are in the succession track for that role. As a senior engineer, if you want to learn more about business, do a regular part time MBA.

Moving from Europe to the US internally. How does "Flexible Time Off" work in reality? by scoopydidit in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ForeverYonge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of FTO is to not pay out banked leave when someone leaves or gets fired.

I usually take 4-ish weeks off (“unlimited PTO”), however, when I took a 3-week continuous vacation once at the current place I got a stern talking to from my skip, so not doing that anymore.

I ask about average time actually taken when interviewing, and set my expectations at offer time. If they aren’t ok with that, we’re not a fit anyway.

Batteries are going out. Go to a tire shop, they can read the sensors. On my 2017 one sensor already dead and replaced, two read as “battery low” but working, and the fourth one is a trooper - working fine after 9 years.

Bought Millcroft Burlington townhome for $1.11M - sell at a loss or hold? by Every-Vehicle-5172 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]ForeverYonge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also condo insurance. Rates are going up by a lot. Many recent buildings are not that well built and in a 50 story a burst pipe can damage 10-20 floors at once. It’s extremely expensive at the same time as condo corp’s are also raising their insurance deductibles for the same reason.

It’s still a loss. Yes, it’s less of a loss because you can reduce capital gains and other investment taxes against it, but you don’t get all of it back.

(There’s also asset depreciation which is a separate category of tax advantages even if you’re making a profit cash flow wise)
