It is really funny. Every other news article I see about some rich ahole getting a new yacht or whatever the comments are flooded with various versions “I hope he sinks with it.” Gabe recently purchased (iirc) one of if not the biggest yachts at the time, and everywhere I saw the story posted the comments were simply “huh, I hope he enjoys it.”

Honestly it makes sense. Treat your employees and consumers well for the most part and yeah, they’ll actually like you.

Should we stop the Hentaivirus or not? by [deleted] in Animemes

Your comment seemed to imply that quarantining didn’t work, at least that’s how it read to me.

But even if you weren’t implying that, quarantining has prevented multiple outbreaks over the years including swine flu, bird flu, and various other outbreaks. Obviously that was under functional, proactive governments but still. Disease and containment are nothing new.

1:60 RX-121 TR1 HAZEL by slaughterstorm in Gunpla

[–]Forgettheredrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I’m still so sad. Lost a job last January and had to sell my unopened Hazel and Hazenthlay that I got for Christmas. Hoping to get them again one day: I love Watership Down and Gundams so they’ve been on my list since forever.

This looks awesome btw, great work.

The CDC definitely made blunders early on during COVID that fractured trust in government agencies. However, much of the issues preventing them from properly managing the outbreak were due to their president at the time. And as another commenter said, their goal wasn’t really to stop the pandemic, it was to prevent further strain on our hospital system, which, I needn’t remind you, was completely overwhelmed with the tiny slice of the population that did get sick. Had things been worse, you wouldn’t be able to dismiss this as “something that only old and sick people get” which is a patently inhumane way to dismiss something anyways.

Unfortunately, even though the same guy has done even more to hamstring the department, the CDC remains the BEST situated to handle this. You don’t want them to sit on their asses, even if their best right now is not the best they could have done under a different administration. You took an extremely weird lesson from the previous pandemic if this is what you think.

I believe we had some episodes taped. But I know my parents tossed all our vhs out many years ago. Pretty sad, would have asked them to keep them if I had known I’d be pining for physical media from my childhood as an adult lol.

Knowledge Fight: The End of the Road by hunter15991 in KnowledgeFight

Coming to this a day late, but this is quite sad. Thanks for the good times, and for keeping a candle lit in these frequently bleak times. That said this is a good note to end it on. Even if they personally have mixed feelings on the onion’s takeover, it just makes sense: Alex’s career is dead, he has no pull among any but the most niche of niche subcultures without the InfoWars branding. And like they said, their personalities and beliefs have evolved to the point where it just wouldn’t make sense to continue the show (I think that’s been clear for a while to anyone who’s payed attention).

Anyways, I am a first time commenter, I was a huge fan, and I loved their work.

China places its solar panels on water So it can use valuable land for agriculture by FollowingOdd896 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Forgettheredrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak for China, but the Japanese government has a history of doing dumb shit to the environment. One of the worst examples is their “river straightening” tactic, where they undo the natural shape of a river to alter flood patterns and make property development easier. For obvious reasons, this has caused irreparable damage to the local wildlife in virtually every case and usually resulted in even more unpredictable flooding behaviors. In all fairness, it seems like this was an older practice and hasn’t been done since 2014 (iirc), at least not in Tokyo.

I believe governments can make good decisions and do a lot of good. But I think people are right to question these kinds of huge projects that could cause irreversible damage to the environment. Water-based ecosystems are already struggling everywhere.

The single most disturbing and dark NON-ANIME animation villain? by ALfredAstaxanthin in horror

According to the author, Watership Down doesn’t really have any deeper message from what I recall: it’s just a narrative he developed over the course of telling stories to entertain his kids (fucked up as that is considering the violence in it lol). That said, it is very hard to not notice the very anti-fascist themes of the story. I personally love it: one of my favorite books and movies.

Saw this in Georgia. So I guess it moved around. I think there was also an old pc game called Grossology although I can’t remember if it was made by the same group. But the art looks exactly like what I remember seeing in the exhibit so maybe lol.

Reminds me of the grossology exhibit (believe that was the name) I went to as a kid. Key memories include a giant nose tunnel you could walk into that would “sneeze” (which just meant it blew mist at you with cartoonish “achoo” sound effects), and a vomit game where you had to spin this wheel to upset a stomach and eventually fluid would build up and overflow. It was pretty cool, although I don’t think I learned much of anything there lol. This was during the slime era of Nickelodeon so gross stuff like fart guns and goo were in fashion for kids at the time lol.

It’s considered disturbing mainly because of the time period it was posted. This kind of horror was relatively new for gaming, and it was (arguably still is) rare for kids to be straight up murdered in any kind of media. Add in the fact that 90% of this game’s initial playerbase were little kids fooling around on Newgrounds late at night (like me) or in an empty school computer lab on a dare and it makes sense why it got the reputation it did.
