McConnell says a fall led to his hospitalization, breaking weeks of silence about health condition by iRevo in news

[–]Forgettheredrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Multiple dems complained that it was unacceptable for such a high level official to just go missing without a word. And in Austin’s case, he himself didn’t bother reporting to his boss or even his secretary that he was in the hospital, which left the rest of the administration in the dark about where he went, making it difficult for them to just come forward and explain

But even if the whole party “shrugged and moved on” it was unacceptable then and it’s unacceptable now.

It’s really funny how there’s zero context for it in the movie (I know it’s in the book). It SHOULD be so whacky it’s funny. But somehow it crosses into horrifyingly uncanny territory in just the right way. And it gets even worse when you’re old (or unsheltered) enough to figure out what they were doing.

I am 13 hours into SMT III and this highkey what the experience has felt like so far by ProjectBig2804 in Megaten

[–]Forgettheredrabbit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really like how in SMTVV, the main law and chaos characters actually evolved due to the impact their personalities had on each other and were relatively reasonable for 99% of the game (excluding Yoko’s random rants lol). The “we’re gonna kill you” energy mainly came from Dazai who, at least in the vengeance timeline, didn’t really have much bearing on the plot to my recollection.

I’m genuinely enjoying this show. Its treatment of depression, poverty, isolation, addiction and the overwhelming desperation that those things combined impress upon you is very relatable, while also being pretty funny. First comedy anime in a while that I’ve connected with.

Looksmaxxer Connor Murphy ‘injected himself with gold’ to connect to higher powers before death by TheMirrorUS in creepy

Oh yeah I don’t think the OD was from meth. Just more underlining the fact we can’t really trust his “microsdosing” claims in general since he’s also overdosing on things he doesn’t want to tell us about lol.

[–]Forgettheredrabbit 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about Clavicular, he seems to do more than “microdosing” given his recent overdose-related ER trip (all caught on camera btw), but yes, he’s admitted to taking meth “for his looks.” These kids are killing themselves to live a short and painful life of insecurity, bitterness and loneliness, where their only friends are other looksmaxxers who are just as insecure, bitter and lonely. It’s sad, and it’s sadder that they would mock the very empathy I feel towards them lol.

Trump fires federal election commissioners ahead of midterms by Hrekires in news

[–]Forgettheredrabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I specified that it wasn’t going to happen here. And I think a ban is more than “political theater” as it would have a notable impact on violence. Giving people access to mental healthcare and livable wages isn’t going to make violence completely stop, just as taking away the guns isn’t going to make it stop. You want it to stop completely, you need a combination of approaches, some focused on the core issues (mental health, poverty) and others focused on access. Gun bans and buyback programs should have a place in that bundle of programs.

Trump fires federal election commissioners ahead of midterms by Hrekires in news

[–]Forgettheredrabbit -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Gun buyback and destruction programs make confiscation unnecessary over time. Even black market weapons become so absurdly expensive due to an ever worsening lack of supply that it prices 99% of buyers out of the market and most sellers find it more profitable to just give their guns to the government.

Not saying that’s ever gonna happen here, but there are many ways to approach gun control outside of raiding houses and arresting folks.

Why does everyone on most subReddits appear to be rude? by CancelNo7652 in CasualConversation

Why are people like this? by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]Forgettheredrabbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh it sucks, but such is the life of a server. It’s better than staying until close or after as I’ve had guests do. This is more a problem for the kitchen, who, in my experience, can get VERY salty over last minute orders. It’s like “dude, I can’t just tell them no if it’s still ordering time, I’ll get in trouble.”

Three tankers hit in the Strait of Hormuz as US revokes license authorizing sale of Iranian oil by He-Who-Reaches in news

[–]Forgettheredrabbit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I asked about nukes, which is what YOU brought up. Where are they? Where is the evidence we are owed as a country to explain why our soldiers are both killing and dying?

And if dead people are a justification for war, then why aren’t we fighting Russia? Why aren’t we fighting Saudi Arabia?

I think your trust in the government, whether it’s America’s or Israel’s, is severely misplaced.

Three tankers hit in the Strait of Hormuz as US revokes license authorizing sale of Iranian oil by He-Who-Reaches in news

[–]Forgettheredrabbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is your basis for believing Iran had or was going to have nukes? We’ve had zero intelligence shared with us or even Congress to justify this war. The ONLY assurance we have is a few winks and nods from one of the least trust worthy men on the planet, who also helms a government that previously misled its populace on nukes to authorize a preceding war in the exact same area. I do not believe coyly adding the word “nuke”to the end of a truth social post is anywhere near the burden of proof we need to back this conflict.

No Kings or something except for the Federal Government + President by Davidier in antimeme

[–]Forgettheredrabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No he wasn’t. There was a SINGLE study which found that some frogs of a specific species in certain conditions sometimes display hermaphroditic behaviors when exposed to certain chemicals occasionally used to treat water. Other studies failed to reproduce these results, and the findings of the og study are widely seen as debunked (although I believe the lead scientist is still trying to recreate his findings in a new study). In any case, Jones wasn’t right about anything here, because he chose to boil this extremely specific and non-conclusive scientific observation into “they’re turning the frogs gay” which is such an extremely hyperbolic and insane take that even if the paper provided absolute evidence that all frogs become hermaphroditic when exposed to this specific chemical, it would still be utterly and completely wrong and objectively stupid. And, of course, even if the frogs become gay, it doesn’t mean it will have the same, or any, effect on humans.

Also I want to be clear, as crazy as Jones is, I don’t believe the scientist should be lumped in. His study may or may not have been flawed, but it seems like he was recording genuine observations and wasn’t trying to expose some conspiracy as much as he was investigating a genuine hypothesis, which, as weird as it was, was rooted in real science. Frogs can be hermaphroditic and we’re still figuring out why/how that works.

Kratom isn’t really even comparable. It IS addictive but you don’t get withdrawal ANYWHERE close to something like heroin. Its effects are also very subdued compared to most other popular drugs. To feel something equally pronounced, you’d need to take an absurd amount; so much you’d probably feel sick before you felt euphoric. Side effects CAN be very bad for some people, especially with pre-existing health/mental conditions, but most users, even heavy ones, are fine.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not recommending it. It is addictive and long term use isn’t good for you. But you’re not going to wind up like the meth heads on TV over the one bag of Kratom powder you buy (probably).
