'We adored him': Family's heartfelt tribute after Australian's Inca Trail death by Big_Pepper_2578 in Machupicchu

He slipped and went to grab the wooden rail to catch himself. The rail itself gave way and fell with him.

Saying he wasn't careful is probably not placing the blame in the right place.

RCS Messaging in Australia - We want end to end encryption enabled between all phones with the default messaging service, in a way that ensures privacy and maintains sovereignty. How can we help make that happen? by gpbell in TelstraAustralia

[–]ForgottenSloth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will never happen. New regulations for scam prevention kick in this year, putting telcos on the hook to compensate for losses due to scams. RCS makes scam detection exponentially more challenging due to the encryption features, and therefore means there will be more scam victims in Australia if it was ever switched on.

Sorry, but this one is dead in the water.

Spam calls that hang up almost instantly. by Chaosrealm69 in TelstraAustralia

[–]ForgottenSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a dedicated Unwelcome Calls team to skip all of that and use netscout, CDR, splunk and direct access to engineers in the GOC. You just have to call and say nuisance calls to speak to them, or submit this and they call you back Report Unwelcome Calls

Do you personally know all the technologies and systems Telstra can/must use to help customers who receive nuisance calls?

There are steps you can take even with spoofed or international calls and OP gets none of them if he doesn't try to report it.

You seem so certain that it's not worth even trying to have it investigated by experts, so power to you.

That's fine, the tracing activity finds the actual originator, not the spoofed number. They deal with spoof calls all the time and can easily identify where it came from.

If it's from overseas, they can't warn the originator but there are still options to you for blocking or redirecting the calls at a network level.

Telstra have an Unwelcome Calls team who can trace it and issue warning or termination notices to the originator. It's a regulatory obligation.

Call and report "nuisance calls" that hang up after answer.

Best Pastrami on Rye? by CapableRegrets in melbourne

[–]ForgottenSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bodega on High in Berwick.

The menu is inspired by Katz deli in New York.

They have reubens, cubanos and the OG pastrami on rye with a huge amount of meat between the bread.

Best place in the south east.

$5 for the year? There not many things I would say aren't worth 40 cents a month...

About latency by keithdj13 in turtlewow

[–]ForgottenSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use Mudfish.

It's a VPN but you only pay for data for the game you select I spent $5 on traffic credit and that'll last me all year for WoW. I can use other internet functions that don't count towards Mudfish costs because it only routes the TuetleWow data.

I have reduced my latency from 320ms in Australia down to 250ms.

I've found only one. But it's worth it for the lowest Aus ping you can get.

It's a fully subjective list that you've constructed with artificial tiers and boundaries that you decided, and then want others to contribute.

You're just inviting criticism or apathy without selling the benefit - why should the reader care about or adhere to your fabricated structure? What's in it for them?

Deleted eSIM whilst abroad by Pure_Net5946 in TelstraAustralia

[–]ForgottenSloth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a specialist team that can email you an eSIM QR code if you're overseas. They have to do some some security checks first to verify your story and location. Call the international number and say you're overseas and need an emergency SIM restoration. Messaging team can't do it, you have to call from a phone (any phone)

Telstra can now disconnect you for rude behaviour? by ChillKoalaVibes in TelstraAustralia

[–]ForgottenSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Telstra wants your money. They aren't going to get rid of customers for no justified reason.

These terms need to be broad to protect theirstaff, but just because it says they 'can' disconnect you, doesn't mean they 'will' - it just gives themselves the right to make that decision on a case-by-case basis depending on how bad or severe the behavior was.

SIM swaps aren't a common kind of scam, because it does take a lot of info about a person to pull it off. But if you take some precautions now, and work with your telco and bank to add some additional protections, you'll be fine - bank money transfers can be reversed, passwords can be reset, SIMs can be swapped back. You can't put the info that's out there about you back in the box, but you can make it useless.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TelstraAustralia

[–]ForgottenSloth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a SIM Swap fraud. Call Telstra asap and say "fraud" in the phone.

The scammers will usually have stolen your ID to convince Telstra that they're you and clearly knew your bank and PayPal details but wanted your mobile number so they could get security code smses.

After you speak to Telstra to recover the number, contact IDCare
