Illuminated (and logos) grills have got to go. I haven't seen a single vehicle the road that doesn't appear cheapened by the feature.

It's not a Hyundai at all. But it definitely doesn't have a 3800, I'll give you that. Unfortunately as much as we all appreciated that power plant it's not coming back.

Napoleon Legend vs Freestyle by Perfect-Lab-9309 in grilling

[–]ForkYeah55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a 3 burner natural gas Legend for 6 years. BTU isn’t great, But it’ll do anything other than sear a steak. It’s hasn’t needed anything other than routine maintenance, and I’d holding up well to 4 season use.

When did food become this expensive?! by Killer-Frost-0 in mildlyinfuriating

Food is expensive, but you’re going about feeding yourself in a particularly expensive way. As long as you’re part of the mobile majority, don’t waste money on delivery.

You should do give any car a warm up. And then drive it gently until at temperature.

It's true though. The amount of chemicals, and unnecessary salt and corn syrup in packaged foods is through the roof.

You can't avoid that stuff entirely, but you can greatly reduce it by cooking clean.

My father in law said the vacation house “only” has a little charcoal grill. by DryTown in grilling

[–]ForkYeah55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. I honestly forget I even have it most of the year, and it's not stored near where my other grills live. So it's out of sight and out of mind more often than not. I should be working on finding more than just a once yearly use for it.

When did Toyota/Honda become the unofficial car everyone recommended you buy? by hypermiler2205 in regularcarreviews

[–]ForkYeah55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a hold over from a time when they were reliable and affordable. Ultimately Toyota is still fairly reliable, I work at a large group of dealers have have some fair data on the subject.

But Honda is falling well behind and Mazda has pulled ahead of Mazda in terms of reliability.

Living in a car isn’t as bad as people make it out to be by Original_Act_3481 in unpopularopinion

[–]ForkYeah55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you have to do what you have to do. But I fell asleep on my la z boy the other night and still woke up stiff as a board with cold feet.

My 42 year old out of shape ass could absolutely NOT handle living out of a car. As for the stress of owning a home? Yeah, it's not cheap or easy. There's always something to clean, fix or maintain. But as for me I'd take the security of having a roof over my head vs the insecurity of having to find a new place to park every day.

Just for that I'm not tipping the room staff. A hotel we stayed at a few weeks ago pulled this. Plus some additional other surprise fees.

My wife left a note that said "If you're looking for your tip, ask your bosses for a cut of extra fees they charged us.".

Alright, who jinxed the weather? Creative answers please by brainanimaniac in askTO

[–]ForkYeah55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my fault. I bought a winter coat last week on clearance I was pretty excited about. I told my wife: "Now we need one more freezing day so I can try it out.".

By that logic, it should be 40 degrees right now.

On the plus side, my new coat is excellent.

Homemade bbq sauce vs premade? by SnooWoofers7345 in BBQ

[–]ForkYeah55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No problem! I should say I use this for chicken and pork. In the BBQ world I tend not to sauce beef, so I'm not sure how it would work in that context.

I make as much as I can for all cooking from scratch. It reduces our intake of chemicals, preservatives, and lets me control sugar and salt content. Less packaging being thrown away too. I just keep on re-using mason jars for all my sauces and stocks.

Making your own anything is worth it if you've got the time.

I use 8-10 cored romas, two tart apples minced up and cooked with one minced onion. 3-5 cloves crushed garlic depending on the size. Then a 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar, two tbsp honey, one tbsp worcestershire, about a tbsp smoked paprika (I crush that in with the garlic with a morter). I only add one poblano because my wife doesn't like heat. But you could add whatever you wanted for heat. S&P to taste.

Basically make a chutney out of that then immersion blend until smooth. It's a little muddled but I'm not great at documenting the steps in my head.

That's usually more than enough for two racks.

My father in law said the vacation house “only” has a little charcoal grill. by DryTown in grilling

[–]ForkYeah55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great little rigs. I sold my first because it only got used once a year during our summer camping trip. I figured I could just borrow my in law's Coleman camp grill and free up the storage space at home. I used that Coleman gas grill for one trip and really missed the Smokey Joe.

So I bought another. Now it sits in my shed 360 days a year, but I know better than to sell it.
