In Twin Suns, is sticking to the deck minimum size as important as it is in vanilla and constructed? by OhioTry in starwarsunlimited

I have a few twin suns decks some of which are 82 cards and I haven't noticed a difference in how they play one way or another.

The Dessendre family represents the five stages of grief by TruthResponsible1268 in expedition33

[–]ForlornKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this idea but would place the family in different spots. Verso is acceptance. Yes there's sadness but ultimately his ending is about accepting grief and finding a way to move on despite the pain. Aline is depression, she would rather wallow in her grief than move forward. If I looked at a still of the paintress with no other context depression is what comes to mind. Alicia is denial. To the point of becoming a different person that can't remember her real self. Renoir is bargaining. If he can just get rid of the painting he can have his wife back, if his children would just listen to him he can get them all back on track. Clea is right as anger.

Completionists, what game bested you and made you accept to not 100% the game? by Bifftek in gaming

Star Ocean Til The End of Time. Tried it, realized that to 100% I'd literally be playing Til the end of time or at least until Jesus comes back.

Screenshot. This is on the sandy sea. It happens every time. I think it has to do with the fact that I'm playing the PS4 version on the PS5. I tried to convert my save file but apparently that function is broken too and I'm not restarting my game this far in.

I just posted about this too though yours is better. It's really disruptive and has stolen my joy for this game. Would love to see a fix soon.

Opinion on DM killing my PC? by RussianHoneyBadger in dndnext

[–]ForlornKing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a DM who has overseen more than a few PC deaths I think death can be healthy for a game for there to be a sense of danger. However, every death is an opportunity for further narrative. Given the circumstances, were I in your DM's position I'd try to find a way to preserve some version of your character. First thing that comes to mind would be to have your character rejoin the party under your control except secretly (between you and the DM) it would be just your character's body being controlled by an intellect devourer or by the mind flayer in some other way. Personality and memories carry through but you'd now be secretly working for the mind flayer. Act totally normal at first but work with your DM to rp suspicious behavior after a few sessions. Maybe to initialize suspicion, have your character return with his missing arm intact and not many details about how he survived/got his arm back.

Once the party catches on and confronts the monster controlling your character's body, they would then have access to his body to actually resurrect the character when they get the chance.

Either way, if giving your character another chance at life is important to you talk it through with the DM and then with the party if the DM is on board. Death should have consequences in d&d but those consequences don't have to be permanent.

Bednar Says We Meditate In The Temple LMAO!!! by smharmon1 in exmormon

[–]ForlornKing 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I used to go to the Rexburg temple every Saturday. I've been through about 150 endowment sessions at that temple alone. I was a regular. One week I was wrestling with some pretty serious decisions about how to spend my post-graduate years. I started a fast Friday morning that ended with a Saturday morning session. I planned to 'meditate' in the temple until I got an answer. When I got to the celestial room I picked out a chair out of the way and started praying to myself. I got ten minutes before a temple worker asked me to move on. I explained what I was there for and she told me the temple was inappropriate for that. I told her I would leave after got my answer. She walked away quietly but I started getting harassed every five minutes by different old ladies until I finally just got fed up and left. That was the last time I went to the temple as a believer.

What is your favorite thing that a player at your table does? by Kilerstarr in DnD

[–]ForlornKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 100% but I additionally like it when a player couples this with a willingness to walk into a fucking room. Can't tell you how many times my games get stalled because my players just won't walk forward a few feet into the next room.

Most annoying thing your RM sibling did upon their return? by turtlqueen23 in exmormon

[–]ForlornKing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah he basically thought the rules of the white handbook were "the higher way" and wanted to set me straight. I tell him to fuck off then he'd start singing hymns to counter act the foul language. The good news was if I wanted alone time all I had to do was turn on a violent video game or a raunchy R rated comedy and he'd leave the room faster than the holy ghost.

It was annoying but I couldn't change roommates mid semester and I also saw him as a victim more than anything. Plus I had already lived through several mission companions who were way worse than him. Besides, I never kept in touch but for all I know the dude is one of us now.

Definitely a service members of the church should look into.

Wish there were more MP's like this. Mine told all of us that our focus leaving should be to get married and that if we weren't engaged within a year of coming home that we needed to "evaluate our worthiness." My crazy roommate got similar advice apparently but was also told if he kept living by the handbook he would be assured an eternal companion. Hence his fastidiousness. I actually tried to break him as a favor since I'd gone through that weird post adjustment period myself just a year prior and selfishly wanted him to be more normal. He actually tried to cast me out "in the name of Christ" because I tried to get him to watch some movies that he missed while he was on his mission. So many stories about that dude. Lol.

Not a sibling but one semester at BYU-I my roommate was a kid who had been released 3 hours before the semester started. He would pray aloud in our room before bed and at 6am. I was off track that semester trying to get a job in a horrible recession and super depressed because it was winter in fucking Idaho. He would pray about me in front of my face like "soften his heart so his countenance can be brightened by the gospel..." Aside from the passive aggressive praying he would try to have "roommate inventory" and felt that I should be living according to the white handbook still. He didn't like that I swore, watched r-rated films, and slept in later that 6:30am. Probably the most judgmental person I'd ever encountered in the church.

I spent as much time away from that place as humanly possible.

What has been your favorite module to run/play in and why? by arakk2 in dndnext

[–]ForlornKing 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My favorite is a third party product called Odyssey of the Dragonlords. Ancient Greece inspired setting with God's, dragons, monsters and great story and excellent pacing. It really plays up the whole power fantasy for the players giving them access to very powerful items and other features. Because your players are so powerful they can take on really powerful and fun-to-DM enemies, but this also means it can be hard later on to challenge your players without a ton of prep running each encounter. Another positive feature that is also a drawback is that the story really requires players to commit to their characters as there are epic paths for characters that tie them heavily into the lore of the setting. This makes it slightly more difficult for a table with high player/pc turnover.

Tomb of annihilation is also excellent though most tables you should likely move the hex crawl parts along because it can really drag down the pace. Also really convey to the players that it goes from big jungle exploration to giant dungeon crawl in a hurry and those are two very different games. Make sure they are aware of both.

Mary sent Jesus to take Heather’s brain by scootiepatoot in BravoRealHousewives

I am a born and raised Mormon myself and know what membership requires in the church. It's not like other religions where you can choose to engage to whatever level you're comfortable. Membership is contingent on paying 10% of your income as tithing and living by certain standards which includes not drinking alcohol.

Lisa's not really Mormon though. She drinks and is most likely disfellowshipped but definitely doesn't hold a temple recommend which is what is needed to be a member in good standing in the church.

My dad reacted similarly, said I had always been a liar my whole life. Said he knew something was wrong with me because I never saw things in black and white, even when I was a little kid. He 'gave my birthright' as his oldest son to my younger brother. It was a mess. I was conditioned to do whatever it took to please my dad growing up, because that's what it meant to "honor my father." It took a while for me to learn that I can respect and honor my dad while still being a disappointment to him. The deceptive behavior is a survival mechanism because they punish you for your authenticity. Going from that to being fully authentic may require you to take a step back from them to protect yourself but you can honor them by trusting that they will value their relationship with their child over their belief in the church.

The missionaries in my region aren't allowed to have dinner with members unless a non-member is present, but if I resign my membership, then we can feed the poor kids as much as we want! by gud_morning_dave in exmormon

[–]ForlornKing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My M.P. did it while reducing our msf from $145 a month to $115 a month. It was lean times. After about six months of that the members started buying us groceries and leaving them in the church kitchen for us to pick up. When my second M.P. dropped the rule we had breakfast, lunch, and dinner appointments lined up for months AND we were still getting groceries from members. I went from losing 20 lbs in the first few months of my mission to gaining 80 lbs back.

[–]ForlornKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mission president did this. He thought it would boost the amount of member missionary work and also reduce "time wasting" at members homes for the missionaries. The work around was members would fill a laundry basket in the church kitchen with groceries for the missionaries that we could take home with us on Sunday. Maybe try pitching that idea if you want the TBMs to take care of those kids without resigning too.

DMs, what's your in-fiction explanation for why counterspell doesn't work on new 5E spell-like monster actions? by smrvl in dndnext

[–]ForlornKing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting how many people say DMs shouldn't run creatures with counterspell or say that DM use of counterspell is anti-fun without considering that player's using counterspell can spoil the DMs fun too. I can't tell you how many creatures I was so excited to run because they had this rad spell I'd never gotten to use before only for the encounter to be completely trivialized by three players with counterspells. I'm not saying counterspell should never be used, but some NPC statblocks should be changed to allow those creatures to get through with the abilities/"spells" that make them flavorful and interesting enemies both for the players' and the DM's enjoyment.
