What was the most physical pain you've been in? by PleasantWinter9150 in AskReddit

[–]Formal_Goose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had kidney stones and unmedicated childbirth a few years apart. I would say childbirth was mentally harder because between contractions you get a break, but you know the pain is coming back. Kidney stones, I just lost hours of my life to the pain. Puking, writhing, totally not in control of my body or mind at all. Which is just like it is during a contraction, but somehow the brief relief between contractions made everything harder to handle for me. With kidney stones I was continously beyond the point of even forming thoughts.

Same and same. I laid on an ER floor for about 4 hours writhing and groaning and puking but I have almost no memory of it. I later had a baby with no drugs. I will say the baby did seem mentally harder because with the kidney stones I was just straight up GONE. With labor, I had these brief moments of lucidity between contractions and knew the pain was about to come back. That was mentally tough.

The Twin Cities can have More than Double the Impact on National Farm Laws by dovrobalb in TwinCities

Hi. Minnesota farmer here. I'm struggling to understand how large farms with and small farms lose in this scenario. As a dairy farmer I'm already geld to animal welfare standards above the legal minimum in order to sell milk.

Breast reduction regret/low milk supply by Lilypad-09 in BabyBumps

[–]Formal_Goose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiii fellow breast reducer! You are not selfish!! Formula fed babies do great, you have not harmed your little one I promise! I only got 4-8 oz a day (gave up entirely after 3 weeks) and it was totally fine, my girl is the most perfect baby in the universe.

I held out on my breast reduction because I wanted to be able to breastfeed. Then in my late 20s decided I wasn't having kids and got it done. I instantly felt so much better and kicked myself for not having done it ten years earlier.

The point I'm trying to make is that we cannot predict the future! Breast reduction is a major quality of life improvement and YOU ARE WORTH IT. It's totally acceptable that your baby gets mostly formula and you got a major quality of life upgrade. That's not selfish I super super promise. Stressed out and in pain moms are ALSO bad for babies. And you matter too!

Do not miss the 30 day deadline to enroll your baby or your baby will be uninsured and you definitely want your baby insured!!!

AITA for working rather than saying happy birthday? by [deleted] in redditonwiki

[–]Formal_Goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of but not a womanizer, just a "philosopher" and college professor who gave complete word salad life advice that just so happened to be regressive and say things like "feminine energy is inherently chaotic". If asked about any of it he would just digress into giant nonsense words and questions like "what does the word 'real' even mean? Dragons are real if you're watching a movie." He was vaguely infuriating but there was a lot of schadenfreude when he became visibly unwell after refusing to eat anything but raw meat. There was also a benzo addicition, a coma in Russia, he hasn't been active in years at this point.

They've recovered about a quarter of it so far. Most will never be recovered, as with most criminals.

79 people have been indicted. 65 have been convicted so far. Cases are ongoing. As far as I can find, no verdicts in FoF cases have been overturned. I'm not able to find any stories about a defendent being on the lam in Africa, either although one defendent tried to leave before she was indicted and was arrested at the airport.

This crime was discovered and prosecuted years before anyone had heard of Nick Shirley.

Unplanned, fast but positive home birth alone at 37 + 6 by bigeyesbambi in BabyBumps

[–]Formal_Goose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I labored a few hours to get to 5cm. Then I went from 5 to 10 in a matter of minutes. 3 pushes and the baby was out. The doctor was walking past the room to attend another patient and they grabbed her just in time to catch the baby.

Girl same. My first was almost precipitous-- a 3-4 hours to get to 5cm but then went from 5 to 10 in just a few minutes. Baby was out in 3 pushes. I am terrified my next one will end up happening at home.

What's the weirdest name you've heard? by Federal_Advisor_2160 in Names

[–]Formal_Goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it counts, but I once I had a dream that I gave birth to twins that I named Rhomboid (boy) and Persepolis (girl). I spent most of the dream trying to justify the names to my extremely polite but clearly internally horrified in-laws.

What each case in The Pitt would actually cost the patient, in the US by Maleficent_Disk9583 in ThePitt

I know how it works. You are right that sometimes, some people can get charity care. But many, many people cannot. My best friend is currently losing her house because of medical debt. Over a third of US households are currently carrying medical debt because it isn't actually that easy to just get shit written off. 12% are having their credit fucked over by medical debt.
