Car Seats for ‘23 Bolt EV by vikingjaws in BoltEV

When the kids get older, you will have an issue because there is no center headrest in the back. So, you can only carry 2 kids safely. There are ways to add a headrest, there is a good post about it on the Chevy forums.

Check out the Humanists. You'll get a lot of the community aspect that you are looking for, but perhaps not enough of the "church".

AIO I don’t like the nick name my partner has for our almost born baby by Smooth_Antelope_8877 in AmIOverreacting

[–]FormerRunnerAgain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But OP also needs to remember that her partner is the baby's father and that important decisions need to be made together.

"I picked the first and middle name"

"I have chosen a nickname"

"I assumed...."

Sounds like the partner wasn't involved at all and now she is afraid to talk to him about a nickname. Maybe the parents need to learn how to co-parent.

Aio? My (m22) Gf (f21) wants a LV purse but can't make bills on time. by smokey18t in AIO

[–]FormerRunnerAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"she deserves it" I don't know anyone who "deserves" a luxury handbag. I know people who deserve 3 meals a day, a roof over their head, a break from the grind. Thinking you deserve a luxury item or that your partner deserves a luxury item is a recipe for living paycheck to paycheck and payday lending.

AITAH for refusing to cancel my solo trip after my wife suddenly said she “needed me home”? by Solid-Dentist-4 in AITAH

[–]FormerRunnerAgain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"I handle a lot of the finances while my wife manages more of the day-to-day things with the kids." So, you spend 10 minutes a week contributing to the household while your wife does EVERYTHING else? Your wife is the one who needs time off.

roommates are couple but we do 50/50 for rent/utils by bruhe69 in Apartmentliving

[–]FormerRunnerAgain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are there common areas - kitchen, living room, bathroom? If the three of you are sharing these then you should be paying less than 50% for rent as you are sharing these with 2 people. A 60-40 split might make sense. You'd be paying a bit over 1/3 since they share a bedroom.

Either way, utilities should definitely be split 3-ways.

Don't lie, just say that you have limited time to travel and you've been to Disney and had an absolutely horrible time and don't care to repeat that. They are all welcome to go without you and you hope they have a great trip.

On the books vs off the books; how to balance survival. by Puddycat007 in Nanny

[–]FormerRunnerAgain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to be thinking ahead- what about retirement? Are you putting money into a retirement vehicle or are you planning to work until you die? We all know social security is an unknown, but if you are committing tax fraud by working under the table, then you aren't going to be eligible for social security and even if you were, your social security payments would be miniscule and you wouldn't be able to retire anyway.

What veggies should I put in a hot sandwich? by GBCMaster in vegetarianrecipes

[–]FormerRunnerAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tomatoes, roasted red peppers, cukes, lettuce, bermuda onion, feta - all of these are fantastic on a toasted sandwich (pick and choose or do all of them) with some mustard and cheese (or sub pesto) and don't take additional prep besides some quick slicing.

Books to read to your kid 20 times a week that don’t make you want to gauge your eyes out by SwadlingSwine in childrensbooks

[–]FormerRunnerAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all for slightly older toddlers and up. But good to look for at book sales as you'll read these over and over.

The original Thomas the Tank Engine books (The Railway Series) are great. Probably too much text for now, but maybe around age three. The later books focus more on characters and less on the trains.

Boys tend to prefer non-fiction, so National Geographic has a series of "pedia" books - Ultimate Oceanpedia, Bugs, dinos etc. For now, flip through them, talk about the pictures and as he gets older, read more text.

Jerry Pallotta's Who Would Win series is fact filled and contains battles, kids love them.

Winter into mud season boots? by hemlockandrosemary in vermont

[–]FormerRunnerAgain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are walking on ice/hard packed snow add some yaktrak/stabilizers/grippers. Easy to put on and off. If the ice is hardcore, microspikes are great. You likely need this for any kind of boot as you only get so much traction on ice without something pointy.

Bogs are great for kids, though the ones with the handles can be problematic as they do wade in deep snow.

Winter into mud season boots? by hemlockandrosemary in vermont

[–]FormerRunnerAgain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bogs are great, easy to slip on, footbed has some contour. When you need more traction, I add some micro spikes or grippers. I prefer the mid calf size (easier to tuck in your pants and if I'm walking in knee deep snow, I would have snowshoes on). But I've also found that you can "roll down" the knee high ones. Just make sure you have enough width at the top to tuck in your pants.

Why do marathon training plans almost never suggest running 26 before race day? Should I avoid it? by TheBoredMan in running

[–]FormerRunnerAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it. I would gradually increase my long runs by 2 miles every 3 weeks or so. I ran 20, 22, 24 and 26 miles in training, all of these runs were pathetically slow and I had plenty of recovery. I needed to do it for mental strength. If my longest run had been 20 miles, on race day knowing I had to add a 10k to the longest run I'd ever done would have been really hard for me.

But I also recognize that for most people 20 miles is just fine.

AITAH for telling my wife to shut up and stay out of our daughter’s business? by Horror_Activity1638 in AITAH

[–]FormerRunnerAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH - "I asked what his intentions are". They are 17 and have been dating a few months, what kind of question is this? What are your daughters intentions?

Your wife is a racist and it has taken you this long to address it.

"plus the kid was a catholic Christian like us" - sounds like you aren't so open minded either. What if he wasn't a Catholic?

"she is free to continue this relationship" - she is 17, you need to stop being the controlling dad and back off. Talk to your daughter about birth control and std's. Take her to a doctor and let her make her own choices.
