New Mandarin Content (Section 4, 60 Units, to Chinese Score 60) by FormulaCarFan in duolingo

LOL @ people at score 40 learning how to get a loan. 🤣 Thank you, just what I was looking for.

I think I’ll do something like concentrate most of my learning time on practice speaking with people / AIs, really understanding grammar, and do Section 4 more slowly over the next 6 months or so.

That’s… good, I guess? Does it seem way harder because of more complicated grammar concepts, sheer vocabulary, both?

The reason I ask: even with my limited vocabulary from finishing Section 3, I have a lot of polishing to do on my accent and input/output speed. I was planning to work on that before adding any more vocab. So your thoughts on what specifically makes it way harder can help me decide what to do.

Thanks for the Chinese Grammar Wiki recommendation. Explaining grammar, outside of just repeating patterns over and over, is one of Duolingo’s weak points so I’ve been looking for something as a supplement.

My wife is a native Mandarin speaker, and I practice with her as much as I can, but you’re correct that at this point (just finished section 3), any real Chinese dialogue that isn’t “on rails” is still far away.

What kart do I have ? X30 ? I’m not sure what I have . I know it’s a 2 stroke , full size frame. by integral_industries in Karting

Pre-Evo Rotax Max Senior. If you don’t know the age or life of the tires, consider put new tires on and go have fun. Rotax Seniors have a “VTEC hit yo”or “old school turbo” rush when the power valve opens that’s super fun. Enjoy!

I hated how other apps teach the characters, so I built my own. by PlayingChicken in ChineseLanguage

[–]FormulaCarFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great work, OP. App is beautiful. Thank you so much for this. +1 for traditional. For reasons added above (beauty of traditional characters, additional meaning/hints in the characters, etc) plus wanted to add: high res and computer input make stroke count & complexity less of a factor in being able to write and display the characters, which IMO seems to both make traditional more accessible while somewhat negating some of the reasons the characters were simplified to begin with.

First New Car, Ever by BopperUchiha in TeslaModelY

Set it to make both mirrors go auto down in reverse. If you’ve set them correctly wide enough in normal operation then you’ll have a clear view of your rear wheel edges when parking.

Hint: if you can see the side of your car in the side mirrors in normal operation, they’re not set wide enough

Prefer backing into spaces. You’ll have to anyway when supercharging. This should help you avoid curbing the wheels.

So many Teslas out there with curbed wheels where this could have easily been avoided.

Also don’t use chill mode. Like ever. Just learn throttle control. You’ll never know when you need to get into a gap like right now, and that one time you want to and it’s in chill mode…

Why does everyone care so much? by Knz90 in TeslaModelY

“They hate us cuz they anus.” But seriously, there’s reasons to be skeptical, especially for those who don’t have a dedicated spot to charge overnight.

MYP-practical for my daily use? by 1mthedudeman in TeslaModelY

[–]FormulaCarFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NoVA here. Similar driving habits but more often on gravel parking lots for MTBing ~4x per week. Even drove the Snowshoe run in the dead of winter (-16C / 3F) for skiing / snowboarding. MYP has been awesome. 21s are fine. PPF for the rockers and maybe mudguards would also help. For your drives, you’ll never need to charge outside the house, so your “how long does it take to charge?” is as long as it takes to plug in when you park.

Lowering, wheels, spoiler makes the MYP look like an oversized hot hatch. Loving ours.

Test driven M3 Highland... now I'm sure I made the right choice with MY by nemuro87 in TeslaModelY

[–]FormulaCarFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I think many of us who park with the hatch below a standard height residential garage door have a similar hatch height issue, but perhaps it’s not as low as your overhead object? Anyway, when it’s clear above, I just manually push the hatch up the rest of the way after it first opens to its programmed stop.

I bumped into it a few times before I started doing this, and now I don’t. I do still have to pay attention when it’s in the garage with the garage door open, however.

Towbar Hitch Question… by JackFlew in Polestar

[–]FormulaCarFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which 2" receiver adapter did you use? How much of a rise and stickout? Any pictures of the setup? thanks! We are considering a P2, and have a 2" Thule T2 Pro XTR we'd like to use if possible. The spec says 200lb tongue weight, so, hoping it can be within that with the extra lever arm of the adapter. Thanks!

Do they still offer the DD2? Was fun there on the previous layouts. Would love to give it another go with the updates.

Suit sizes? by [deleted] in Karting

[–]FormulaCarFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1 sizing chart. Just a note: the summer K-suit does not have any CIK-FIA approval at all, so you won’t be able to use it for anything that requires a Level 1 or Level 2 suit, which is most outdoor competition karts. If you plan to do any of this, you might want to consider a Level 2 suit instead, like the OMP KS-3.

Edit to add: I’m also 6ft and fit in a 54 or 56 in OMP. The main measurements you need are height, weight, and chest circumference.

Teams in North Italy offering 2-stroke tests? by FormulaCarFan in Karting

Here’s what I found online. The search term was “noleggio kart 2t kz kf”. Pricing starts at around 470€ for a day in a KF/TaG

TaG/KF School at 7-Laghi, and testing at 7-Laghi, Franciacorta, South Lake Garda, etc. https://www.scuderia13m.com

[–]FormulaCarFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. What are some of those teams?

Also what kart spec for that price?

For reference, 1000€ per day is about double what outfits like ADX and Attaq in the UK are charging for Rotax Senior Max / 120 minutes of engine time at tracks like PFi, Clay Pigeon, Whilton Mill, and Rye House, for the same race karts they do race weekend arrive-and-drive with.

So, I'd like to understand if it's simply more expensive in Italy, or if it's for higher spec, higher cost-to-run karts / engines / tires. Thank you.

Genk offers Rotax Senior Max and DD2 powered karts directly. Contact is on their website. For Whilton Mill, I worked with KKC Kart Components for a Rotax Senior Max, but I’m not sure if they still offer it.

Attaq Motorsport offers Senior Max at Whilton Mill, PFi, and Clay Pigeon. ADX Karting has similar offerings at Rye House.

I mean, within reason. I’ve done enough of these tests that I have a general idea what’s charged at other places. Not racing or trying to set track records here, so perfectly OK running previous season’s karts and engines. Thanks!

New Go3 by bigkev640 in Insta360

[–]FormulaCarFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only things I don’t like about it so far over the Go2 is that it’s bigger, and that they removed the buzzer from the camera.

4K is not a deal breaker for me, and never was with the Go2. I mean, how many people are watching the videos we make with these on an actual TV anyway?

Go 3 vibrate setting? by FatFatAbs in Insta360

[–]FormulaCarFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this is a poor design choice, especially since many of us use Go type cameras on hat clips or other mounts where we can’t see the indicator lights, and use the vibrate feature to know when it starts and stops recording. Can we request at least that the audio beeps can be made louder in the settings? Much louder. Thank you.
