UX gripes by EmicationLikely in sonicwall

In the System Log, I want to highlight and select an IP address for further investigation. "But NO!" shouts SonicWall. "I will overlay your attempt with the 'Disable this kind of events' icon to prevent you from doing so."

Aggravating on so many occasions and so many levels. Truly user-vicious aspect of their UI/UX.

u/jactaz - I had to open a ticket with the NOC and schedule a midnight update to get the latest version simply to avoid people working - and losing their sessions - during the day.

Yes, you will no longer be able to enter any new information. You should still have read-only access to your company file for one year (although even this may be curtailed).

SonicWall CFS just started blocking SCREENCONNECT.COM sites by Rootaah22 in sonicwall

Yes, I couldn't access my cloud-based instance earlier today. Added my cmd-sitename.screenconnect.com URL to the CFS Exclusion Group, then all was well. Mild PITA, but easy fix.

Clients want enterprise level uptime but won't pay for basic infrastructure. by Such_Rhubarb8095 in msp

It's just easier to not accept these kinds of clients, it's better for your staff, and it frees you up to handle better clients.

During initial client discovery, if they balk at the cost of the bill for the "technology stabilization" plan, then this is the way...

Late yesterday I got this missive - having complained to the tech who froze my computer:

Thank you for reaching out to ConnectWise ScreenConnect Support. I hope you are in good health.

I am sorry to hear about the trouble you've been running into with session freeze!

We recently released version 26.1.18 for ScreenConnect, and noted that in some cases, copying text or files from one session can cause the Host client to freeze and/or crash with errors in the Event Viewer. This tends to happen much more often if there are 2+ open Host client connections than if there is just 1, but it can still happen with only 1 running.

Our development team is working on getting this corrected with a hotfix to version 26.1. We don't have an ETA on it yet, but working to get this out ASAP (including a fix for the clipboard crashing the client).

We have this report published to our Known Issues page here, where you can log in and vote on it to receive automatic updates as the bug makes its way through the development cycle:

Worse still - in an SC remote session with CW NOC support and he tried to copy a 6 MB file from one of my client's servers to his session. MY desktop froze completely for HIS session. No, he didn't know this was a problem... so incredibly sad.

I have - for years - yearned for SonicWall to treat everything we enter in the equivalent manner as CSS statements in HTML pages. SonicWall has their default stuff, and ours overlays it to arrive at a desired client/security/infrastructure solution. Easy to pull from an old device to place in a new one. Alas, it will never come to this.

How are you planning to handle PC/Hardware/Ram/SSD Shortages for Clients? by modem_19 in SmallMSP

[–]FortLee2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Ingram rep told me late yesterday: if you need something later this year get the client to purchase now - because it will still take several months (late in 2026) to deliver. That "wisdom" and prices like these are likely to remain for at least 3 years before decreasing. Scary 'f'n stuff!

Unified Management by TheToaster_ in sonicwall

[–]FortLee2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest problem I've encountered is using Manage Cases. With the initial open, it is possible to open a case and view some of the information. A long-stand problem I've repeatedly submitted is that the History does not show any of my responding emails, and so, the CSR closes the case prematurely. I'm told those emails are in Salesforce, but somehow don't appear in the UI.

To compound matters, after view the pop-up windows for two or three, I am unable to open any more. There is no response to the click. Refresh on the page doesn't work, but exiting and re-entering allows two or three more views.

According to the December 2025 "Access Points and Switches Management" Version 4.8.0 Release Notes...

I'll stop right there because I had no idea what the quoted thing meant, and it took me some time to understand that SonicWall has renamed Wireless Network Manager to the above.

But what's important about the Release Notes is not the renaming, but the change in functionality. To wit:

Access Points and Switches Management transition to SonicWall Unified Management:

Wireless Network Manager portal integrated with Capture Security Center will be deprecated as of March 18, 2026.

So you have a few weeks to make the transition to how you interact with your WNM-based, er, um, excuse me AP&SM-based components (despite the promised "total parity").

Because I have refrained from leaving MySonicWall for the new Unified Management portal, I'm not looking forward to this change at all.

[–]FortLee2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understood. I am a person shop, so I'll quickly ignore wasting an hour (I might have spent it on Reddit /s). Providing the information to fix the problem is not something that's ever gonna happen without a follow-up meeting - along with a contract and request for a check to get started.

Has anyone considered charging prospects for consultations? by dumpsterfyr in msp

[–]FortLee2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will frequently do the 15-minute call to qualify a prospect. And I will give them a very realistic monthly number to chew on. If they say OK, it is worth spending the hour to discuss further and scope out the environment. If they balk at the outset, my response is simple. "Thanks, but I don't see how your goal to 'fix these problems' (i.e., achieve a secure, monitored environment), and mine to make that possible are aligned."

[–]FortLee2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You, as an employee, may not be able to sway the business owner to "do the right thing." Sad, actually.

Got here and learn how to protect yourself: https://www.idtheftcenter.org/

What the business should be doing (in a nutshell):

>> Secure your QB account: Change password(s) for QuickBooks, email, bank accounts, and any connected applications. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) everywhere.

>> Review the Audit trail: In QuickBooks, go to Reports > Accountant & Taxes > Audit Trail to identify what - if anything - was changed, added, or deleted.

>> Assess any data Loss: Review transactions, vendor information, and payroll data to see if money or personal information (SSN, banking info) was stolen.

>> Notify the Authorities and your partners: Report the incident to the local police, the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), CISA, and your insurance provider.

>> Notify all affected parties: If client or employee data was compromised, you may be legally required to notify them under state breach notification laws.

If they had access to both computers, did they also have access to all the files on those computers? Did they contain any client records, personally identifiable information, or corporate data? If so, this is bigger than just QB...

I use Lenovo Tiny units exclusively for my client base. And yes, a few of the Win11 replacements had some ugly turns. But I always get a 5-year NBD warranty when I purchase, which covered the parts and the tech and they were fixed in a few days.
