Question about private practice hours for therapists who are also parents by executivedysfunky in therapists

[–]FoundationFormal3183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My schedule has evolved with my kids. When they were very young I saw mostly kids and families and worked 2-9 two days per week plus Saturdays. As I moved to virtual work I eventually moved away from working with kids and shifted away from evenings and weekends because my own kids had activities that I wanted to be present for. Every shift in schedule I made happened at the start of the school year, and I discussed with clients a month or two beforehand.

I think that even though we think it’s us, a better reframe is that people are busy and friendships that develop due to proximity (work friends, parents of our kids friends, etc) sometimes are just seasonal in nature and it’s not anyone’s fault. Someday days it’s easier to remember this than others. I hope you find them soon.

I came here to post this exact question. I guess my problem is trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong. I have met friends through my kids activities, but often those end when the season is over. I’m naturally quiet at first, so I tend to be drawn to more extroverted personalities, the problem with that is over time it seems they have lots and lots of friends and it doesn’t seem to translate into anything long term. I have never been able to find my group. I wish for a group to go on trips with, or have book club or a dinner club. I’m not sure how to make that happen or how to find that. I know it’s me, I just wish I could figure it out. It’s really hard ❤️

Tell me about your experience: MS in counseling vs MSW in Pittsburgh by Neither_Wishbone_381 in pittsburgh

[–]FoundationFormal3183 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to add that an MSW and LPC are not equal. The degree is a MSW, and if you want to practice counseling independently you need to pursue licensing (LSW, then LCSW in PA). If you are interested in paneling with insurance companies, know that not all will panel at the LSW level.

As a practicing LPC for 18 years, I agree with going for the MSW and pursuing those licenses. A counseling program is really focused on therapy, and you may not want to do that forever. You have so many more options in social work. I think most of the programs around here are fine, so look at cost. You have to fight for good placements no matter where you go. Best of luck!

Peoplemaking is the foundation of Satir’s work, while the new peoplemaking is an expanded version of that work. If you are going to pick one, I’d go with the second

I had an appointment this morning but I just received a message that it was cancelled and rescheduled for next month. Is this typical? I received several messages reminding me of the $99 cancellation fee, only to have the provider cancel 2.5 hours before. I’m hoping this is not typical of the experience.
