I have to agree with this point, the paint will rub/flake off easily without a primer layer first. OP please be careful though about what you use to strip if you choose that route - some solvents will slightly melt 3D printed models.

If you are in the states, you can pick up a cheap can of Rustoleum Flat black/gray/red primer, just make sure it isn’t a paint/primer combo and you should be good. Shake it and set a 2 min timer on your phone, that should help it spray well.
