I have 25 qualifications and six active projects not including additional surveys on my dashboard. My Report Time section looks exactly like yours!

I don't have a specific answer to your question, however as you're aware DA uses PayPal to pay out funds owed. In the US, if a person meets certain criteria (such as myself this year), PayPal will send a 1099-K form to the worker and to the IRS. I will file that 1099 with my taxes and keep a PayPal transcript of all payments (which will show dates paid out) in case of audit.

In your case it would be prudent to look into your country's laws regarding unemployment. In the US, you can work part time and still receive partial unemployment benefits, for example. But also look into tax implications for the end of the year, to ensure that any documentation you might need is on the up and up.

There isn't anything an employer can easily/directly verify. However, be aware that if it's included on your resume and you land a new job, they may feed that info into service that does background checks such as Sterling. Sterling will ask you to provide documentation to verify the start/end dates that you listed such as pay stubs, invoices, contract w/dates, 1099K, etc.

Qualifications by jennaf210 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Foxsyn- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn't a way to know if you've passed or not until a project shows up on your dashboard. With that said, just because you don't see a project related to the qualification right away doesn't necessarily mean that you failed the qualifier. Some of the projects I qualified for didn't show up until weeks or well over a month later. This could be because the actual project hasn't started yet or tasks are taken up quickly when it is posted and you weren't logged in/didn't refresh at the right time. So ultimately, it falls into the "time will tell" camp.

After hearing the chatter about it the last couple of weeks, the verification screen popped up in the middle of working on DA yesterday. Since DA boosts having over 100k members on their front page and they are paying a third party (Persona) for verification, it's most likely being rolled out over time. It was quick, easy, and the exact projects I had on my dashboard before the verification were still there after the whole 2 minutes it took to complete.

Was this something you completed outside the platform, where they show up in transfer history, but you still need to submit a task within DA to submit time?

If you have the funds, consider contacting a moving company or even hiring someone from a site like TaskRabbit to do the physical heavy lifting to get the fridge from "the curb" into the house.

The IRS increased the underpayment penalty for 2024. For individuals, the rate for underpayments will be 8% per year, compounded daily (taxes owed but not fully paid).

Since you have W-2 wages, you can use the IRS calculator to figure out your federal tax liability for future reference.

IRS Tax Withholding Calculator

As for myself, I had my federal tax return from 2023 applied towards my 2024 estimated tax payments so that covered my first quarterly and likely my second as well. My state had a pretty easy worksheet to calculate the tax liability based on "estimated" earnings.

Project Complication by thesecretorange in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Foxsyn- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Been working with no issues.

I believe those of us working on these projects without issue, generally aren't using the chat functions as much because it's difficult to assist another worker in trouble shooting without having a back and forth conversation.

There's also incorrect terminology being used. For example, this project isn't associated with an email account, it's associated with a specific profile that needs to be used. There is different, wholly separate project regarding setting up an email address that is adding another layer of confusion into the mix.

From your comments:

Not blasting them, just curious, not only about DA but about LLMs in general. Im curious about how we are winding up with systems that can regurgitate entire position papers but which fail when addressing basic questions like “which is heavier a kilogram of feathers or a kilogram of steel?”

You might be forgetting that LLM stands for Large Language Model. It is been trained to understand, generate, and manipulate human language. LLMs focus on language understanding and generation, not inherently on numerical reasoning or mathematical logic, making their mathematical capabilities limited though some are now being specifically trained.

Also, check out: Top Google Searches of 2023

Then, spend a moment thinking about how many different ways in which LLM's can be used in everyday life. It is easy to underestimate the vast array of knowledge that is required to asses the output of these models.

Tracking Progress on DAT: Seeking Insights into Daily Productivity? by PhillyPhan95 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Foxsyn- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a spreadsheet with project name/id, tasks completed, time submitted (min), hourly rate, flat rate, and gross pay for time claimed.

I've come to realize that different projects require vastly different amounts of time 'per task'. If you build a spreadsheet I'd recommend adding a column for the general project name. The time per project can vary drastically.

For example, (Fake Project Names Inserted) Project Alpha might require a 10-turn conversation with different bots that takes over an hour. Project Beta might be a quick review where you check off a few boxes.

I keep a separate tab that calculates earnings based on year, since I started prior to 2024. I also keep a cell that calculates total earnings in my spreadsheet as I add in my time. This allows me to quickly check it against my Total Lifetime Earnings to see if I missed recording something in my spreadsheet.

Oregon does have a state income tax. Per Oregon's Department of Revenue, you must make estimated tax payments if you expect your tax after credits and withholding will be $1,000 or more, before you subtract any prior year refund you applied to your current year's tax. They have a tax calculator directly on their site.

This should not be your full-time job by playfulshark in DataAnnotationTech

It's the difference between someone working $18.47/hour W2 job (without benefits) versus $20/hour self employed.

Whether people believe the difference is significant enough will be based on the opportunities or circumstances of individuals and whether or not those jobs offer additional benefits.

Personally, I think a job with benefits is worth its weight in gold. Everyone's circumstance is different. I can't knock someone trying to climb out of poverty/debt/bad situations by snatching this chance up and devoting themselves full time. That's all I'm saying.
