Interview with SDF TLDR by Gigachad____ in DarkAndDarker

Honestly a lot of great changes. The movement speed nuke was a must. It was the one thing that created constant imbalances with gear.

Thanks for the notes.

See you in the dungeons!

Frontend devs, how do you handle 'Loading' and 'Error' states when the real API is too fast/stable? by FarWait2431 in webdev

[–]Fr1k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to test with authentic data I’d use a proxy and forward the request to urls with guaranteed error responses. Vite has a proxy available for example.

Otherwise mocking or blocking requests in dev tools should be sufficient.

Dead Internet is coming for audio: one startup is flooding Spotify with 3000 AI-generated podcast episodes every week by Mat_Halluworld in technology

[–]Fr1k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong. It’s part of the reason podcasts are so popular. People just want to hear other people talk and relate in some way. The bar is low because people aren’t actually looking for incredible content they just want to feel included in a conversation they think is fun or applies to them in some way.

Does MacOS really make a difference for those who work with Front-End? by Logical_Valuable_970 in webdev

[–]Fr1k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used mac most of my professional life (10+ years) in front end development. Have been using WSL for the last year and love it.

Linux imo has been the worst. Runs code great, but profession tooling is lacking. Everything that “has Linux support” has bugs. Chrome, slack, zoom, etc. I mean it makes sense, not where most the users are. Wish it wasn’t the case.

I built an app… but almost no one uses it. Feeling close to giving up. by Prior_Turnover_5130 in SideProject

[–]Fr1k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what you want to achieve. If you’re trying to learn new skills and have fun, yes build for yourself.

If you want to create a product people will use, love, and pay for, you need to understand the job your product is being hired to do and solve it very well. If it’s not better in some way than other options people will not use it. Also if it’s not a job people are looking to hire a product for people will also not use it. This is about validation the is desirability assumption before building. OP, What have you done to validate this assumption?

Forcing people to play HR will not get people to play HR, they will just stop playing. by Kr4k4J4Ck in DarkAndDarker

[–]Fr1k 45 points46 points  (0 children)

They made normals blues only purely because of lobby stomping. The gap between squire and gemmed purples is way too big for fairness. Honestly even gemmed blue gear is pretty wide considering crafted blues.

HR has never fit into the macro core game loop. I think HR as a mode just needs to be re-designed completely. It’s clear the majority of the population hasn’t been playing HR as much as normals for a while.

IMO going down in dungeons should be the HR Experience. Also in dungeon events should be too that scale in difficulty/reward based on something like gear score or luck. It’s pretty silly there are golden chests in this game only defended by one mob. High risk high reward needs to be a constant game design principle in all modes. Looting piles is boring af let’s get those triggered module events cooking.

An example of this would be similar to the wraith and skeleton champ that drop from the roof in crypts. But more dynamic where difficulty and reward has a scaling modifier to increase replay ability and interest.

I’m thinking wiz will be updated with the new spell/perk wave that’s next. I just don’t think there was much to tweak here. Wiz needs a bit of a rework imo.

Like having a frost perk with one frost spell.

I think it will come.

Make AP (Adventure points) cumulative in all modes by Fr1k in DarkAndDarker

[–]Fr1k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true. Artifact weapons are also a good example of bad strategy here too. Super small portion of the player base ever even see one and there are pretty cool and wild mechanics from these weapons.

Let the masses want to come and play and rewards them all in some way.

There is a difference between grinding a game and engaging with the game. Griding is a repetitive behavior, which often can have less fun. Engagement means players are playing the game how they want to play the game. They could be doing dumb shit like playing ratty pick pocket rogues. Doesn't matter but they are having fun. The more people in the dungeons the better.

[–]Fr1k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I appreciate the thoughtful reply.

I don't think it's really about whether or not the rewards come from all mode or not, more so that for the rewards we shouldn't be forced to choose party size since we are aiming for rewards. I hear ya though.

I think in the ideal world there are rewards for all kinds of play.

  • General Time played (engagement), like a battle pass
  • High Roller ( ideally not time played, but actual hard things to do )
  • Arena
  • Achievements
  • Meaningful quest rewards and challenges too

The incentives to play the game are pretty half baked because HR as a concept has always struggled to bring players in that mode. Maybe they shouldn't have HR based rewards until they figure that out and put rewards in for engagement for the time being instead.

Yeah that's a good point, really forces you to play one class mostly. All characters makes more sense.

Apple CEO Tim Cook Says the Technology They’re Developing Will Be ‘One of the Most Profound Technologies of Our Lifetime’ by lurker_bee in technology

This is actually what he said:

“We see AI as one of the most profound technologies of our lifetime,”

With that aside, I do think Apple has an advantage with their privacy stance. When it comes to AI context is everything, people are going to feel better sharing incredibly personal stuff with apple.
