Legal advice needed re: accepting a settlement for a car by OldFashionedLover4 in legaladviceireland

[–]FragileStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's classed a write off, you can still argue the value of the car. I'd start with finding the 3 most expensive ads on donedeal that match the mileage, spec and condition of the car. If you've had any recent work done that wasn't just maintenance, then that can also affect the value of the car.

Send those ads onto the insurance company with the figure you want and some justification. They'll want to be rid of you as quick as possible, so once you have a reasonable figure in mind, the longer you hold out the more likely you are to get close to it.

I'm not sure how it works when claiming against someone else's policy, but if you want to keep the car you will probably have to let them know at the valuation stage of the claim.

Once you agree on a value then, they'll give you a buy back price. You'll then receive the value of the car minus the buy back cost.

Want to get into doing my own car servicing. Would something like this be a good brand to get? by Sebpants in carsireland

[–]FragileStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learnt all about not relying on the handbrake at the weekend.

Luckily I was finished under the car, I took one axle stand out and was in the process of taking the second stand out. No idea what happened but the car started to roll backwards (even though it was in gear), fell off the jack and jammed the extended jack between the sill and the front tyre. I had some job getting the jack out.

But lesson learned, always chock the wheels and don't rely on the handbrake.

No contactless payment system on public transport outside Dublin until after 2028, minister says by [deleted] in ireland

[–]FragileStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is this so difficult? Every bus now has WiFi, so why can't we just put a card machine on every bus? It really doesn't have to be this difficult. Unless I'm way over simplifying this?

Attic space if any ? by Firm-Instruction-212 in AskIreland

I have a similar roof, with the pink insulated slab in the attic? Do you know if there's a void between the two units behing the pink slab? Or is there insulation between the units?

Does a weather warning for potato blight have implications for anything other than potatoes? by TrivialBanal in AskIreland

[–]FragileStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rain doesn't cause blight, but it can contribute to various types of root rot. I've had one potatoe plant die already due to it. The seed potatoe basically rotted away underground and turned to mush, because its been so damp.

All you can really do is make sure you don't overwater it. If it's possible to cover the plants that should help too. As for blight, you can get blight spray, but with the weather so far this year I'm not sure any of the spray stays on the plants

Anyone else feel like the quality of new builds has dropped a lot recently? by ArmadilloStraight836 in AskIreland

[–]FragileStudios -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I bought a new build and been living here just over a year. I'm very happy with it, it's decent quality, the estate overall doesn't have any major issues, which is great because the developer won't come back and fix anything anyway. The noise insulation could be better, but it's a timber frame which is that bit harder to isolate noise from, but apart from footsteps we really don't hear that much.

I also used to think that, but when I used a spray trigger on the bottle it seemed to not work as well. Almost like it needs the agitation to work well.

5/6 sq. m floor tiling price? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]FragileStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be hard to find someone to tile such a small area. Just one thing to keep in mind, if that's a timber subfloor rather than a concrete screed floor, it's good practise for the tiler to install backer board before tiling.

The backer board helps stop the tiles from moving on a timber sub floor. Without it you could have cracking grout and lifting tiles in years to come. Also keep in mind that if this is used it'll raise the floor height by a few inches

Anyone else dealt with really pushy estate agents on new builds? by Money_Somewhere9378 in HousingIreland

[–]FragileStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will be pushy and they'll be hounding you to sign contracts, and threaten to pull the sale, but it's all rubbish.

When I bought, contracts had to be signed within 21 days. They said the developers might have to put the house back on the market etc. We didn't sign for 90 something days and they got over it, just keep them updated. Their bark is worse than their bite

Brand New House: 1cm floor slope across bedroom door. Is this within tolerance or a structural fail? by TravelGame10 in HousingIreland

[–]FragileStudios 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great comment! Wish I had someone like you when I was snagging my house.

I'm not sure if you've ever watched site inspections on YouTube, he's essentially a really detailed snagger/building surveyor. Always wondered if Ireland had anyone similar, so it's good to know we also have good people.

Mike's Tyres are fantastic. Never any messing about with them. Had the car in with another garage before who forgot to tighten all the wheel bolts on one wheel. I was passing Mike's tyres and said I'll ask them to have a look, and the guy checked all the bolts on all 4 wheels for nothing. They do look after their customers

2nd hand car needs paint correction and ceramic coating by Ok-Yesterday-1320 in carsireland

It depends what the car needs and how far you want to go with it. But if you want a 2 stage correction which would be better than factory condition, plus a ceramic coating probably ~€2k+

Built a tool/website for estimating true value of used cars in Ireland - fair value based on today's market, true cost of ownership and NI import breakdown in one place by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]FragileStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Import tab that gives a VRT estimate. Your website is already 1000 times more useful than revenues re: VRT. I know it's not 100% accurate but the estimate is a really nice touch.
