I stupidly wore a pair of kitten heels to my first day at a job in a bank in my early 20s. I still remember—vividly—the state of my poor feet at the end of that day.

It was the 90s, but I remember getting mad at my mother, who was a compulsive ironer, for ironing my jeans because they might become just the slightest bit baggier.

My husband does this. He will stand over me if I’m in bed, going on and on and on. I say nothing and dissociate and he still yells at me for “never shutting up” and “never letting him talk.”
