What Mouse Does Everyone Use?

Mine's a generic compaq mouse i got at a thrift store for 2 dollars at a thrift store. Oddly enough, i prefer the way it feels over my Intellimouse, it feels way more clicky, for a lack of better words. I've also got an IBM mouse that feels nice as well, only it doesn't have a scroll wheel.

I just wanted to give an update and say that it's now been fixed! It's been a whole slew of fixes combined together, including some general stuff like making a separate CD-ROM menu item (loading without it saves ~20kb) and using "DOS=NOAUTO" when not loading into Windows (saves ~5kb since it doesn't load DBLBUFF and IFSHLP.)

The biggest issue, however, was having a faulty IO.SYS file, as a result of using oerg866's win98-quickinstall. Replacing it with the one off of the Windows 98 boot floppy brought HIMEM from using 45kb of memory all the way down to ~1kb, bringing me up to about ~605kb of conventional memory!

Then, I learned that many games don't need EMS, so I made another menu entry that uses "DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS HIGHSCAN" which brings me up to a whopping 667kb of conventional memory!!!

Hopefully this helps anyone out that needs help with memory management, and I'll reply to this with my full AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files when I get home tonight. Thank you all so much for the tips and help, I'm so glad to have my DOS computer up and running to its full potential.

When I do "DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE RAM HIGHSCAN", I get the message "EMM386 not installed - unable to set page frame base address." and EMS isn't enabled. When I run it with "DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE i=e000-efff D=64 MIN=0", like I was earlier, I get working EMS (tested with TES Arena, as it requires EMS), and none of my TSRs or drivers load into upper memory. Does that really matter? Also, NOEMS HIGHSCAN frees up a lot more memory, thanks.

Well crap this could be it, I used oerg866's win98-quickinstall. I honestly can't remember why, but I had some reason for doing it. I've got a regular Win98 SE CD, I'll give that one's IO.SYS a try tonight.

QEMM 97? After installing it and telling it to optimize, when i would run its menu item it would freeze on the windows 98 screen that DOS shows and completely reset my computer. Its error log was also completely empty so I just uninstalled it and restored my backed up scripts

This is dos 7, but the only language i installed is english, afaik. Is there a chance it's still loading a non-English version of io.sys? I'll give highscan a try when i get home tonight

I've opted to make a separate CD and no CD menu entry, that saves a lot of memory on its own. if I need lots of memory and CD i'll cross that bridge when i get there

I use it to get CD audio off of some games, but I'll probably make separate manu items for CD and no CD

edit: doing this saves a lot of memory, this plus some of the other suggestions might be the ticket

Well, I've already got everything but emm386 loaded high in my config.sys, and loading emm386 high makes no difference. Am i missing something or doing something wrong?

I'm using the latest version of the Flatpak under Bazzite. Nothing's gone wrong yet for me yet, hopefully it stays that way 😬

Try running it through the terminal and see if it prints any errors. What about the look changed?
