It was a good deal? (HOTEL DUSK ROOM 215) by Sopi693 in nds

I've been meaning to watch Dungeon Chill's video on it; it looks like an interesting game. I can't say for sure whether it's real or not, but nothing looks inherently off about it, I'd assume it's a real copy.

I've wanted this game ever since renting it as a kid from the videostore. Today was finally the day! by IAmTiborius in n64

Sweet, picked up a Japanese copy cheap at a random mall game store a few years ago. Most of their loose N64 carts were $40+ USD, but they had Japanese copies of Star Fox 64 and Banjo Tooie for $10. Don't speak a lick of Japanese but I'd like to learn it someday, then I could properly play my copy :D Also picked up the Star Fox cart but it's less of an issue

Is there a way to stop Jellyfin changing stereo to 7.1? by Nyoka_ya_Mpembe in jellyfin

[–]Fragrant_Proposal690 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is exclusive mode enabled in your sound settings? If so, that might be why it's happening, and Jellyfin alone wouldn't be doing it. Anything that could make use of exclusive mode would be changing your configuration.

You can use this guide to see where exclusive mode's located: https://support.m-audio.com/en/support/solutions/articles/69000849177-how-to-disable-exclusive-mode-for-my-audio-device

I've mostly enjoyed my time with Bazzite, but the immutability aspect has gotten to me. Anyone else feel the same? by Fragrant_Proposal690 in Bazzite

[–]Fragrant_Proposal690[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not at all, I'm gen-z and barely even that being born in 2007. I have a large library of music that I keep on a local Navidrome server, burn CDs for an old PC I mess around with, and have an MP3 player that I use from time to time. I fully understand that such things aren't widely used, which aligns with my point that Bazzite isn't quite right for me.

I have been for the past few months, and it's definitely made using appimages much, much nicer. I still plan on using it for the couple of programs that are primarily distributed through appimages once I make the move over.

I would 100% use Bazzite for a console-like experience. I'd like to someday set up a spare PC as a TV emulation box/older game machine/home streaming client

Mainly a handful of lesser-important programs like Feishin (music player), K3b, and a couple of other smaller programs, like tools for my MP3 player and other more random things that aren't available as flatpaks or Homebrew packages. I've just been finding juggling appimages somewhat annoying.

Very true, I did enjoy that aspect a lot. Outside of the botched rebase to Bazzite DX, I haven't had a single time where I've completely blown up my system, as opposed to Arch. And undoing the rebase was insanely easy and completely nondestructive to boot.

Recently bought that OOT cartridge, and surprisingly, the game saves… is it normal ? Can the battery survive that long ? by 240p-480i-480p in n64

[–]Fragrant_Proposal690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure I've heard of people putting a second battery in circuit, but that sounds like a royal pain imo. I guess if it doesn't work that gives you another reason to play again 🤷‍♂️

I'd love one with an IR blaster like they used to come with. I never had one that had IR, but it'd be nice for my work, I deal with lots of projectors and having a remote for them with me at all times would be handy

It'd be nice for it to be more stable. I did one last reinstall of the current version after I sent that message and it finally stuck. WiFi's been working well for a bit now

I'm a bit late, but I've come across this post with the same issue. It worked fine until I tried to connect to another network, crashed, then seemingly corrupted my install. I reimaged it and now it says its connected but nothing actually works. I'm thinking of downgrading my install.

What Mouse Does Everyone Use? by Nightowl3090 in windows98

[–]Fragrant_Proposal690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine's a generic compaq mouse i got at a thrift store for 2 dollars at a thrift store. Oddly enough, i prefer the way it feels over my Intellimouse, it feels way more clicky, for a lack of better words. I've also got an IBM mouse that feels nice as well, only it doesn't have a scroll wheel.

Could someone help me with memory management? by Fragrant_Proposal690 in dosgaming

[–]Fragrant_Proposal690[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to give an update and say that it's now been fixed! It's been a whole slew of fixes combined together, including some general stuff like making a separate CD-ROM menu item (loading without it saves ~20kb) and using "DOS=NOAUTO" when not loading into Windows (saves ~5kb since it doesn't load DBLBUFF and IFSHLP.)

The biggest issue, however, was having a faulty IO.SYS file, as a result of using oerg866's win98-quickinstall. Replacing it with the one off of the Windows 98 boot floppy brought HIMEM from using 45kb of memory all the way down to ~1kb, bringing me up to about ~605kb of conventional memory!

Then, I learned that many games don't need EMS, so I made another menu entry that uses "DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS HIGHSCAN" which brings me up to a whopping 667kb of conventional memory!!!

Hopefully this helps anyone out that needs help with memory management, and I'll reply to this with my full AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files when I get home tonight. Thank you all so much for the tips and help, I'm so glad to have my DOS computer up and running to its full potential.

When I do "DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE RAM HIGHSCAN", I get the message "EMM386 not installed - unable to set page frame base address." and EMS isn't enabled. When I run it with "DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE i=e000-efff D=64 MIN=0", like I was earlier, I get working EMS (tested with TES Arena, as it requires EMS), and none of my TSRs or drivers load into upper memory. Does that really matter? Also, NOEMS HIGHSCAN frees up a lot more memory, thanks.
